Fantastic handling bikes -almost flawless. The 1983 GpZ 550 was probably the best of the 550 series. I put around 50,000 miles on my ‘83 GpZ 550. I had a Kerker exhaust system and also the much better looking aftermarket ‘Napoleon’ bar end style mirrors. The bike was positively sublime on twisty roads. Yes, I do miss the bike, very much. Not many of these have survived unscathed, and I understand finding many of the replacement parts for these GpZ bikes can be difficult. But, the memories….
I miss mine even more after watching this video. I bought a 1982 GPZ550 new when I worked at a Kawasaki shop in Maine. I've owned many bikes since that, but it still is the one that left a lasting impression even after all these years. I'd love to have one as nice as yours. That bike did everything I needed. I put almost 40,000 miles on it with zero issues. I even rode it from Maine to Florida and back. Talk about the ultimate UJM.
Just bought an 1982 GPZ 550 as my first road motorcycle after years of motocross and off road only, I heard great things about performance and handling of these bikes...Thanks for sharing your video and go pro footage ..
Had a Z500, this bikes older brother. I had so much trouble getting, and keeping, the carbs balanced, that I decided not to get a GPZ550 when they came out. I still regret that decision. And, if a GPZ550 came up, at a sensible price, today. I'd buy it.

It’s always good to see this on the road! I have mine, and I’m the original owner... but it’s more of a doorstop at this moment!
