I am getting tape in hair extensions in 3 days and this video was a life saver! I was so nervous about washing my hair because I currently wash my hair everyday since it is so thin and oily! But now that I have seen this video I feel so much more confident in getting tape ins! Thank you for all of the advice!! ❤️❤️
The more you wash your hair, the more sebum (oil) it produces. I would try skipping a day, then after a week, two - and so on. Your body will adjust it's oil production unless there is an underlying problem... thyroid, pregnancy, hormone issues (puberty), etc. If slowing down on washing doesn't slowly help - consult your doc. :)
@@g.gatsbah316 I'm sorry but this is an overused myth. There is no "sensor" so to speak in your oil glands that tell them how much oil to make. The amount of oil you produce depends entirely on genetics and hormones, not your hygiene habits. The mind is a powerful thing, people who shower less simply get used to having oilier hair and therefore perceive it as their skin making less oil
Not true. You can definitely “train” your hair. The more often you go without washing it, the less oil you produce. When you wash it every day it dries out your scalp and you start to overproduce oil to make up for it.
@@g.gatsbah316 but stop washing hair after your hair oilly will lead to more sebum and more oil and hello demodex mite and yeah more more population and here we go hairfall . i been there
I’ve worn clip ins for 12 years and just got tape ins for the first time 2 days ago!! I was going to wash them tonight but this video changed my mind. Definitely helpful, thank you!!
I’m so glad I’m not the only person who does the mid week wash the top bit. I was my whole head only like once a week with extensions but I have a lovely really full finge/bang situation going on and have a bad habit of running my hands through my hair throughout the day so I need to wash the top bit and my fringe like atleast once midweek depending on what I’ve been doing and if I’ve been sweating and it’s like extra greasy.
Hi Janna, I'm putting in my own tape in extensions 2day, and I'm 1 of them people that wash my hair every day , so this vid was so helpful. Thank you so much. Zach
OH MY GOODNESS! That tip about the shower was AMAZING! I have naturally blonde hair and the oil is REAL. But the worst part is my roots get sooo dark and people think I get my hair dyed. Thanks for the tip cause I'm getting my tape ins put in soon.
I'm getting tape in extensions in 2 weeks. Im so excited. Your tips were the best and your personality is so sweet and genuine. You're a doll. Thanks for the tips and tricks
Girl your hair looks good after a week of not washing ! I've been training my hair to only be washed once a week for awhile now and it's finally not getting as greasy as fast.
thank you! I am new to tape ins, and was terrified to wash for the first time. Your video absolutely helped me feel a lot more confident in the process. You rock!!
You're never supposed to let the tape dry naturally for any length of time. With that said not sure how long you let it air dry. Leaving the tape damp can make them gummy etc and cause them to slip. If anything you blow dry the tapes and let the rest air dry. So again not sure how long you left the tapes damp but they should not be damp for any length of time. Should be dried pretty much right away.
☺ Ya I wasn't sure if they were air dried or not. I love my tape in extensions but a little unsure about my ends. To me they seem dry right from day 3 (just over 48 hrs after they were done and I washed them the first time) hairdresser used flat iron etc and it looked so soft. I really researched after care etc and feel I am doing everything right and using the right products. Even ordered a special hair treatment for extensions online from the UK and use Kerastase shampoo and conditioner and leave in all without parabens, silicone or sulfates. And once dry I use Karastase luminous softening essence for highlighted or sensitized and colour treated hair. Ends still seem dry and frizzy to me. I have to check this last product to make surr it is silicone free. Maybe that will make a difference. And I blow dry how I am supposed to and use the proper brushes. So I don't know. They are Hotheads extensions and I have seen some bad reveiws (mostly good tho) online but this is the only brand any salon where live uses. And my hairdresser said she uses them all the time on customers and herself and never had a problem. That waa during consultation. I will talk to her about my concern now that they are in. Not sure what to do next. I just ordered different products (a heat protector even tho the Kerastase leave in is supppsed to do this) so I'll see if that helps. Thanks for your vlog. I noted the frizz ease you use and may try that. Peace.
Olaplex products are great! Both for your natural hair and extensions. I apply the conditioner in 3 to 4 braids and line the sink with a plastic bag so I can catch the excess conditioner. Good tips!
@@JannaNiki told ya!!! I’ve spent $200 on extension that after 3 Months needed serious care. Now I can get my $99 specials and Olaplex makes them feel like a million bucks!! They truly will last at least a year. But more important mine don’t tangle like a lot of people complain. Glad it worked 😍
I tried only washing my hair once a week with tape ins. My hair gets greasy easily considering I also work out a lot. Literally all of them were slipping out because of how greasy they were. The grease causes them to slip. My stylist then told me I should wash them every two days. So I'm not sure how you only wash them once a week and they're perfect on you and all of mine were slipping out.
Exactly!! Common sense is oil breaks down tape and glue. HAVE to wash my hair every day and every second day is pushing it. Going a week without washing your hair is extremely dirty and unhealthy. To me it’s worth it to move my extensions up every 4 weeks since it’s so easy and quick and use heavy conditioners when I shower, then to go a week without washing my hair. Especially when I work out!!!! You sweat!!! I agree with u 100%
I think it all depends on the person. I myself get oily really quick so I have to wash more then what she's recommended but she might be more of a dry person so her scalp and hair might take much longer to get oily.
my hair is naturally curly and i straighten it when i have extensions but this is my first time having tape ins. idk how I'm gonna wash it and straighten the curly roots with these in. ):
Chanelle Pina have you seen the new glam seamless curly tape ins? I’m getting those and having them put in. I am biracial and have fine curly hair. I hope it works!
So I have had tape ins for a while. I love them. Ive noticed that SOMETIMES there’s a little smell to them even when I use shampoo and conditioner recommended by a beauty supply store. How do you get the smell to go away?? I’ve had that problem twice now and took a while to get the smell to leave the hair.
Your video was very helpful and very incisive I plan on getting tape extensions cuz I just went from a brunette to a full-on blond and my hair is kind of short and I've been thinking about getting extensions now that I know that I can at least get them wet once in awhile I think I'm going to go through with it
Loved your tips! I have had my tape in for a year now. Got some new ones put in on my yr anniversary. Love them and yours are very pretty☺ what is the name of the thermal protect shine cream that you are using again?
I have tape ins. Haven’t washed yet. Had them done 4 days ago. When can I wash? And, I thought stuff with oils can ruin the tape ins? Argon oil, macadamia oil?
You only need to wait about 24-48 hours after you get them done so you can definitely wash them. Oils are ok just not at the bonds because it can weaken your tapes.
I have a question. I don't know if you know how to answer this, but I got a pink hair extension as a highlight from Ulta and I really want it to last as long as possible. How long should I expect it to last washing my hair twice a week? And how do I tell when I should get it removed? Will it obviously start sliding out/falling out? Also, I have this bad habit of touching the tape/bond/whatever it is to make sure it's not showing. Does touching it cause it to weaken and not last as long?
Hey love! I don't think you should have problems with the extension fading. Have you noticed any changes in it since you have washed it? Just to be safe just use sulfate free shampoo so its not stripping the hair. Is it a tape in style hair extension? It will start sliding down just from normal wear and as your hair grows, you can keep it in for as long as you want until it starts bothering you or the bond starts showing through your hair, which will probably be around 6-8 weeks. Its ok it you touch it, it won't really weaken the bond but your hair my get greasy from touching it so much lol that happens to me!
I love hotheads tape in extensions, but I hate brushing them after the wash. I normally get 18-20 inches two packs, so it’s pretty thick and time consuming..... hotheads are the best quality, however it’s high maintenance due to its frizziness and it tangles up throughout the day and especially after a wash
So with tape in extensions i can still shampoo all ova hair with care? And just do conditioner half way down? The reason i ask is ive only had mine for a week and i was told i could wash/conditon as normal but i had a tape come out So im guessing it was the conditioner that did this and not the shampoo?

I have fine hair as well and I think tape ins are perfect because they are so flat to the head. If you are worried about them showing just make sure your stylist doesn't put them too high up on your head
This was so helpful!!!! I'm on my first week and I so afraid to wash them, I'll try the refreshing wash before the whole thing. How do you use the dry shampoo?
I would recommend something without sulfate/parabens/volumizing shampoos since they can open the bonds. I am currently using the hemp oil shampoo and conditioner set from marc anthony which I think would be nice for tape-ins. Just look for something gentle and natural :)
@@butterfly-angel25 Yes you can, I would just avoid anything that is crazy deep conditioning around the tapes because it could make them slide. But a normal moisturizing shampoo is fine :)

Hi everyone, can someone please answer one question. CAN YOU SWIM WITH TAPE IN HAIR EXTENSIONS REGULARLY? I spend a lot of time at the beach and in chlorine water and I want to know if they will hold well or damage my hair if I swim a few times a week?
You can swim with them! But it will definitely reduce the lifespan of your tape ins. If you are swimming multiple times a week the weight of the water will make yours tapes slide down so you will need to get them moved up more often. Also be careful with chlorinated water, that might discolour your extensions. To combat that I usually put conditioner in my hair before I go swimming lol. But if you do go swimming make sure to dry the tapes after, don't just let them hang and air dry. That will help them last longer.
Yeah that dont work for me... i have my extensions ON TOP of my hair ... #uhhh. I have my sides and underneath back shaved (medical reasons) so i had to place my extentions ontop of my head and im finding out my hair is oily .... i LOVE the extentions but... not sure what to do about the oily part. I bought dry shampoo and its just uhhh feels stiff. And my hair dont flip bounce and lay right with dry shampoo and you can definitely tell i have extensions in after like 2 days of no wash and if i ise dry shampoo at all. I think im just gonna have to buy extra tape and be ready to reapply alot. #hassle #thingswedoforbeauty
Yes! I did! I got mine from Sally’s and researched the most affordable places (I live in LA, land of NOT being affordable) and found a great place that charged $75/hr. Only took 1.5 hours plus a trim to get them to look natural with my hair! I LOVE them and feel more confident than ever.
I just recently ordered Bellami tape in an i only got to packs an I’m afraid it won’t be enough am my hair is still gonna look really thin an lifeless :(
Honestly I couldn’t wash my hair once a week! No matter how much dry shampoo, my hair would just be so flat and not great! I have to wash it every couple of days if not every day! I honestly can’t help it :( I’m gonna try and stop doing it as much xx
I also got told to wash it every 3 days. Which to me, makes sense, because oil will make the tape ins slip, as that’s what makes them come out, so surely if you’re not washing it, oil builds up and will make them slip?
I m from Pakistan I like ur vdio vry much .plss tlme tape hair extensions is best for thin hair .I use tape extension for permanent use plse tlme is possible
And plss reply my English is not good but plss hlp me .my hair is very thin I Los my hair after rebounding . my wish my hair look beautiful with tap extension .plss suggest me best product name of hair extension and I want to use hair extensions 20 inch and plss suggest me weight of extintion for thin hair
dry shampoo is bad for the scalp in the long run. it clogs the hair folicules, which is bad for hair growth. You should only use it once in a while, definitely not on a regular basis

Hi if you have seriously oily hair your tape in will not last as the oil is what removes them. Feel free share what was your experience 👍

How long do you let it air dry ?
What extensions did you get?
I think my stylist got these from GBB (Global Best Beauty) but I think now she uses the tape ins from Bellami
Fab video can't wait to get mine done x
Can you let the water hit the extensions?
Can you bring your own hair extensions to a salon and have them put them put them in for you?
It depends on the salon (: A lot will, but they usually charge about $400-500 for installation (at least in my city).
Yes! I did! I got mine from Sally’s and researched the most affordable places (I live in LA, land of NOT being affordable) and found a great place that charged $75/hr. Only took 1.5 hours plus a trim to get them to look natural with my hair! I LOVE them and feel more confident than ever.
I just recently ordered Bellami tape in an i only got to packs an I’m afraid it won’t be enough am my hair is still gonna look really thin an lifeless :(
You’re supposed to wash your extensions with shampoo, if you don’t wash them then the natural oils from your hair will also weaken the bonds
Yes absolutely, if your hair is very oily and greasy this can cause your bonds to slide too.
What is products you use can you post them to me
Ty so much.
Also you shouldn’t use a shampoo with an oil in it for your tape ins x
I m from Pakistan I like ur vdio vry much .plss tlme tape hair extensions is best for thin hair .I use tape extension for permanent use plse tlme is possible
Do your tape ins get wavy after you wash them?
Mine do! .. I'm about to wash mine...I've had mine in for about 2 weeks. I always get nervous before washing mine lol
Yep! I think most of them do, if you let them air dry they will dry wavy
G. Tape ins look like a lot of hassle. I'd stick with clip ins and halo extensions for now
I always find it funny how people gettig out of the shower has perfect makeup lol XD

The only thing that is stopping me from tape ins instead of clip ins is paying every month to get them moved it gets expensive 😭
I get my mom to do it for me, it’s pretty easy. I’ve also done them myself for years. Waaaay too expensive to get it done at a hairdresser :(
Drawingsbyyuli if you take care of them they can last up to 2-3 months!
dry shampoo is bad for the scalp in the long run. it clogs the hair folicules, which is bad for hair growth. You should only use it once in a while, definitely not on a regular basis
Has anyone tried Donna Bella hair extensions??
I haven't heard of them before!
Janna Niki I have them now and I love them 🤣
@@JannaNiki may I ask what tape ins you have please? Ty😊
that is NOT a wide tooth comb i'm gonna cry
