I've had mine since March 2015. It's now April 2023. I'm just now warming up to this amp. I got it because it was 60 tube watts and 4 x 10" speakers. It's loud very loud. I am finally understanding to always keep the volume at or under "3". It does have a good clean channel. As of yet I am still dialing in the gain and more gain channels, which I admit that I am having a hard time in making them sound good. I am learning to keep the volume and gain down and then I can tolerate the gain channels, I still don't like them very much. But I hope to eventually understand how to get the tones I like. Overall I recommend this amp because of the good clean channel and the ability to get very loud, so it's a good stage and gigging amp. It's more compact than a Marshall head and full stack which I still have and that's what drew me towards the Fender Hot Rod DeVille III in the first place back in 2015. Lastly, my taste and style have changes and I no longer want to play deafening loud rock music even though I find it a natural for me. I am wanting to play blues and Jazz which are not as hellishly loud. This amp can do that too and in fact it's really good for Blues and Jazz. - Peter age 73
Jason, after watching your review here, I went and plugged into one of these. Absolutely great amp. Mine will arrive on Wednesday. Great review. Thanks.
Oh man. I'm impressed. Such a warm tone. I was considering purchasing a Marshal but from all the demos I've seen this is the best. It brings the bes out of Fender guitars. Cheers.
Great versatile amp. Made in USA to boot!! I am looking at several on CL.I think with the proper effects you can do quite a bit with this amp. I need a linebacker to move it.
If you buy this amp you're getting a great modern clean channel. The drives are pretty thin and crappy unless you crank it up. If you dig a warm round overdrive sound, this is not the amp to buy. If you run a pedal on clean channel, you don't lose the fat sound of the amp which is something that gets lost unless you are cranked on dirty. The drive channel, for me is pretty uninspiring..
6L6 valves don’t seem to drive as well as EL34 or EL84 valves in my experience. A decent overdrive pedal through the clean channel does just fine though.
@OnestoRemember. This guy can play, give him a break, it's an amp demo not a demo on his skills........You did click on this video to hear the Fender Deville right? He did do a good demo of the amp.......Basic and quick. Sweet and to the point...
@jwandhistools I do, thanks for asking. By the way, I've just got that amp like 2 days ago and so far I love it. No need to crank this baby as it has an overdriven channel and a master volume. The clean tone is just great. Plus, if you crank it, you might get more than you can chew...60W tube amp with 4 speakers; I play it at home around 2 and it's plenty: Its knobs go up to 12, I'm not kidding.
I have had the blonde 410 model for a few years now and I never really found the drive channel to be satisfying until recently. This thing sounds INCREDIBLE if you turn it up to at least 3 on the master. It's super warm but it has an awesome bite. If you crank the clean channel, it gets super loud but has an awesome vintage blues breakup to it. The blonde model I have has Jensen AlNiCo speakers in it, which might make the difference. This video doesn't do justice!
@invictorium depends on how loud you wanna go. 212 means you have two 12 inch speakers. 410 means you have four 10 inch speakers. the 410 is the louder of the two. But unless you're playing somewhere bigger than a club or a bar, you wont need anything louder than the 212. i own the 410 just because i wanted something that could get some real volume, ironically though, thats the only thing i dont like about it. if you live in an apartment, i'd recommend something else for practicing.
I just picked one of these in a Pawn Shop great condition and a price I could not pass up. And to answer you question, it's big but not massive. It's light enough to get into a car trunk and it's on wheels to roll around. Certainly not as heavy as my kids Fender Twin Red Knob (hernia dispenser). Hope that helps
thanks for the review..... the version 3 of this hot rod 4x10 was the last 4x10 model? i think it is, i see the version 4 is now out but no 4x10?........i own one and and very happy w/ it.... i also own a 73 sf twin that is the tippy top of excellant california tone, but the devilles fill the need just fine..... cheers
We're living in the golden age of musical gear but spirit and thrill has gone and live music totally died nearly thirty years ago. Wrote from London UK. Peace.. ✌
Question: My Deville is making this terrible hum, it used to sound ok but lately it keeps getting so dirty...what do I have to check? could it be a tube?
@LBDarnocCZ Here are some things to consider, the first being is that I find both amps a little pricey for the quality because of the names associated with them. The most known difference between Fender/Marshall is that Fender kills the clean tones, but sounds pretty bad for distorted while marshall is the exact opposite. Personally for what I do I would rather play a fender and use effects for distortion. Have you ever checked out Traynor amps?
@jfelix94 The problem with a tree growing in the studio is that when your recording, you can almost hear the sounds of the tree growing..... which in fact can distract the musicians.... very bad decision..... :(
Depends what You like, I have a hot rod deville 2x12 and I think the sound is a lot more like the deluxe but a bit fatter, louder and pushes more air. I intended to get the 4x10 but I'm sure glad I ended up with the 2x12 BUT, it's too loud.
thanks for the video. ima church musician, and i use this amp. ive been wanting to learn more about this amp, now next time i go ill mess around with it. this video is very informative.
couldn't agree more....and he does this demo with fender american dlx which has more than 5 pickup combinations and he constantly switches the push-push on the volume knob, rolls off his tone so that amp could sound darker....OMG!!!!
All valve Fender Blues De Ville 60W 4X10 speakers combo, tweed covered with chicken head knobs, spring reverb. New in 2006, never gigged, cherished at home. Just up on Ebay... Perfectly loud and wonderful guitar combo at £480 starting bid.
I find the 410 to have more bass response and just a waayyy warmer and fuller sound by far. I found the 212 to be very tinny and cold. I still don't think there's enough bass in this amp though, the speakers woof with the bass all the way up and the volume cranked.
can someone tell me the difference between the series III hot rod deville and the hot rod deville? as far as i am able to discern from some of the sources i've checked, the series three is $100 more, and possibly has a different tube complement. i can't figure this out. anyone else know? thanks!
I recommend a Fender amp with a Keeley modded Tube Screamer or a Fulltone OCD. Actually, I run through both of those pedals, with the OCD set more for crunch and the TS set for fat sustained lead tones. I couldn't ask for better tone. My Fenders include a Blues Deluxe, Hot Rod Deluxe, Hot Rod DeVille, and a vintage 1965 Super Reverb. They are all kick-ass amps in their own way.
Sorry, I don't think it was all that bad. He's an awesome player and he demonstrated the amp well. It would have been nice to see close ups on the knobs though.
He said it wasn't a "death metal headbanger's dream come true". I think that's apt. K.K. Downing plays mostly Marshalls and Glen Tipton uses mostly Marshalls and Crates.
I have the the Hot Rod Deville, the Hod Rod is like it sounds a bit hotter, the clean breaks up a bit earlier and sounds a bit brighter (to me) main difference is the addition of a higher gain channel (making it sort of a three channel amp)
as you might gather by my previous comment, I'm actually looking for gear and hoping that a seller would do their best to market stuff they're selling. That's why
ive had this amp since november and it fucking cut out on my today and i shut the amp off for 5 min and then it was fine. does anyone know what the problem is??
Tone is indeed a very subjective thing, but I didn't mind what he was getting at the end there. A bit of the usual Fender "woolly" overdrive, but not as bad as many I've heard. I'm tempted to try a 40w model.
I'm searching for a sound like Kings of Leon, Because of the Times album, Fans [0:01] but with a Fender sound taste. Does that chord on 3:16 has the sound?
when i play these at guitar center, the amp crackles up unbearably at around volume three. He must have the volume very low when putting it through the P.A.
My biggest complaints on the amp are that with the volume at even just 2, it's already blaringly loud. The 1-10 values are worthless in this respect. It's also back-breakingly heavy!
I hated the overdrive channel on my 410 for the longest time but now I think it's the sweetest tone in the world. It takes a little tweaking and the right guitar. And CRANK IT! Just watch the video I posted as a response to this (War Pigs Jam) and you will hear EXACTLY what I'm talking about. I have a ton of pedals I use with it too and it's great for everything but the heaviest corners of metal.
@davedono Basically the only difference is that they tried to tighten up the overdrive because the older one was notorious for being a loose, terrible sounding fuzz. Didn't sound good at all. What People DON'T know, however, is that you can do this yourself VERY easily. Different tubes have different distortion ratings. The distortion rating on the stock Groove Tubes is LOW. Replace the first two with TungSol 12ax7's and leave the GT in the 3rd space. You'll be very happy with it.
One thing I've noticed from my roughly 5 years of playing guitar: Fender has great blues amps with great clean but shitty OD, and Marshall is the exact opposite. I tried playing GNR on a Fender...bad idea.
Well, at least it sounds like that on TH-cam. Add the crankieness/bigger room and some rocknroll rythm and riffing to the bluesy leads, and it would be a five star video. Open powerchords in The Who and AC/DC style would also add some mojo.
dude, no it doesn't, but it can sound great with a few cheap mods.I hace a HR Deluxe, and they can be awesome with a speaker change and power tube change.

One of the better demos I have seen. Good job showing off the different sounds and capabilities of the amp...

I fell in love with one at a rehearsal studio. Sounds great on its own, but interacts REALLY well with pedals, too.
Great versatile amp. Made in USA to boot!! I am looking at several on CL.I think with the proper effects you can do quite a bit with this amp. I need a linebacker to move it.

@noremac91 the marshall 1960's are 300w CABinets, the fender hot rod deville is a 60w HEAD. You are correct but in this video its a combo amp. Thanks
Yes. It's what I did at my last show and it sounded massive and clear. It was a Marshall cab.
This Amp gave me paying gig for 4 yrs. It's very underrated
@jwandhistools I do, thanks for asking. By the way, I've just got that amp like 2 days ago and so far I love it. No need to crank this baby as it has an overdriven channel and a master volume. I had the amp on 1 and was heard a block away, I was in my basement. this amp is powerful
65 watts is alot. I do not get the 100 watt heads.
You could play a 5k seat venue with this, I've done it. Loud af!😅
I've used it live and it was awesome. Could really only use it up to 4 and my ears were ringing.
Hope that helps
all the EQs at noon with just a little bit of reverb
Finkardop oh no.... roll your hand all the way across everything all the way with plenty of reverb. Then volume about half way up.
Lol That’s very Mark Agnesi of you
Lol Mark Agnesi
@papasalas Gosh, that really hurt. Do you feel better now?
thanks for the review..... the version 3 of this hot rod 4x10 was the last 4x10 model? i think it is, i see the version 4 is now out but no 4x10?........i own one and and very happy w/ it.... i also own a 73 sf twin that is the tippy top of excellant california tone, but the devilles fill the need just fine..... cheers

I play one at a local rehearsal studio. The amp is AMAZING!!!
The signature "Fender" tone comes mainly from the 6l6 tubes correct?
Question: My Deville is making this terrible hum, it used to sound ok but lately it keeps getting so dirty...what do I have to check? could it be a tube?
Hahah, everyone is sooo hard on this poor guy. And that's funny because he just tried to help XD
liberals
Wow..lmao. let's turn an amp demo into a political handjob opportunity
The Fender Hot Deville is the best amp I've ever played in my life. This guy does not do that amp justice at all.
Nice demo. Thanks!
this is the kind of guy that covers his ears when something falls on the floor.
lmfao
@13Musicmachine the wattage of an amp isn't rated based upon the load that the speakers can carry
Have you ever checked out Traynor amps?
whats the difference between deville and deluxe besides price and the speakers
With one of these,if you crank it on the clean channel, will it break up?
meh, i think theyre great unmodified! have u tried it with a tube screamer?
@jfelix94 The problem with a tree growing in the studio is that when your recording, you can almost hear the sounds of the tree growing..... which in fact can distract the musicians.... very bad decision..... :(
Hey don't be to mean to world music supply, these demos are the only known cure for insomnia
Hey man you wouldn't happen to be from Borger, Texas would ya?
@29396 Derrr. He's doing an instrument demonstration not a concert.
i have the devlle, i would go with it becuase it has 80 watts so it can be pushed harderrr. get the 212 though
Excellent demo,thank you.
I have this amp, and recently I get a Bass "Ibanez BTB" , ¿can I play my bass on this amp?
wats the amp like? ive just bought one off my m8 for 400 pounds just because i thought it was a good deal lol. have i dont the right thing?
Good afternoon. Is this the "I," "II," or the "III" model?
Thanks!
this guy really doesnt do the drive channel justice! that amp packs a huge punch
Really? I have never turned my (Hot Rod Deluxe) up that far, the most I got up to is 3 1/2.
How far do You have to go to get it to breakup?
I have this amp and it is extremely loud and bassy even when master volume is on 2 and bass is on 1. Any ideas as to how to fix this? Thanks!
Yep. Very loud. I got the same problem.
how do you get your amp to be so quiet?
couldn't agree more....and he does this demo with fender american dlx which has more than 5 pickup combinations and he constantly switches the push-push on the volume knob, rolls off his tone so that amp could sound darker....OMG!!!!
Can you use this with an extension cab and make a full stack?
@tonyc329 I don't understand, you have no videos of yourself playing guitar. Now why is that?
All valve Fender Blues De Ville 60W 4X10 speakers combo, tweed covered with chicken head knobs, spring reverb. New in 2006, never gigged, cherished at home.
Just up on Ebay... Perfectly loud and wonderful guitar combo at £480 starting bid.

is it good for jazz?
I recommend a Fender amp with a Keeley modded Tube Screamer or a Fulltone OCD. My Fenders include a Blues Deluxe, Hot Rod Deluxe, Hot Rod DeVille, and a vintage 1965 Super Reverb. They are all kick-ass amps in their own way.
how long do the tubes last in this amp?
the deluxe has one 12 inch speaker. the DeVille can either have 2 12 inch speakers or four ten inch speakers. and the deluxe is cheaper.
Just different amount of and size of speakers but the deluxe (112) and the deville (212/410)
are different (deville has more gain).
whats the price?
How did the dude in this video get this gig?????????
Can you say, "Casting Couch?"
BOSS pedals are awesome I'm planing on getting the Metal zone, it sounded amazing.
@13Musicmachine pls tell me your kidding. its 60watts whether 4 10's o 2 12's. you dont add the speakers together to get total wattage.
Somebody needs to give this man a glass of water!

Beautifully sounding amp. No clean like Fender
-clean.
Definately getting the 212 on my next paycheck :)
a good friend has one of these. There really great.
this or blues deville?
as you might gather by my previous comment, I'm actually looking for gear and hoping that a seller would do their best to market stuff they're selling. That's why
I have one of these in my collection suprisingly loud nice amp and warm tone when you let the tubes heat up for bout 30 mins.
actually its the other way round. input up full and master needs to go down to get the full tube sound.
why does he always play a Strat thru these? Strats rock, but I wanna hear a Les Paul with this thing cranked LOUD.
what is the difference between the blues deville and the hot rod??
Sounds nice, but the tone of the blues deville reissue seems to sound better, warm and gutsy and not as bright as the hot rod deville.
ive had this amp since november and it fucking cut out on my today and i shut the amp off for 5 min and then it was fine. does anyone know what the problem is??

why do you keep watching them then?
is the "more drive" function footswithable?
Yes
@boffe19 Dont say that they will just get whammy to do them and I don't think I have the stomach for it.
The 90’s called. They want their video quality back
how much $?
Great amp a really fantastic amp!
I have a ton of pedals I use with it too and it's great for everything but the heaviest corners of metal.
i think it could be the heat. i have no idea. i thought those amps were strong and built tough but i dont know.
COULD I BE ABLE TO USE THIS FOR PUNK/METAL?
Hell yeah, you might wanna throw in a Tube Screamer or some kind of overdrive pedal for an extra boost though.
I wouldn't recommend it for that.
its probably a deluxe strat, it has noiseless pickups, but they arent as good as the normal ones.
@davedono Basically the only difference is that they tried to tighten up the overdrive because the older one was notorious for being a loose, terrible sounding fuzz. Didn't sound good at all. 1080p please!!!!
I like this amp. I want it. period.
Fender blues jr, or if thats too much try a blackheart handsome devil, I'm deciding between these two
that 410 speaker config deff duznt need the bright switch
One thing I've noticed from my roughly 5 years of playing guitar: Fender has great blues amps with great clean but shitty OD, and Marshall is the exact opposite. I tried playing GNR on a Fender...bad idea.
Well, at least it sounds like that on TH-cam. Add the crankieness/bigger room and some rocknroll rythm and riffing to the bluesy leads, and it would be a five star video. Open powerchords in The Who and AC/DC style would also add some mojo.
while i love the sound of the 410s the 1 12 i think is more versatile and a lot lighter in weight.
dude, no it doesn't, but it can sound great with a few cheap mods.I hace a HR Deluxe, and they can be awesome with a speaker change and power tube change.
why does this look like it was filmed in 1991?
