Zachary Byers nice, then you got the one made in USA! I have the 93 Blues DeVille with the 4x10 configuration. I love the tone so much, but it’s crazy loud..
I got one about year ago for $350. They are normally $500ish used but the reverb wasn’t working. I took it home took it apart and plugged the tank in, now it’s back and better
That amp sounds epic. I love that warm, clean and with a little reverb tone of Fender amps. I have a little 1x12 65' Princeton Reverb that makes me smile every time I turn it on.
i bought this earlier this month and it's a beast. i've never owned a high end tube amp and i feel as if it'll be a while before i feel really comfortable and use this amp in the way it should be used. what surprised me the most is that it's incredibly reactive to the smallest things that you change with your playing or with your guitar knobs.
I played a Deville for years, I now own a Super Lead Marshall 1959, the Deville sounds better for cleans, the Super lead surprised me at how harsh it sounds, you can dial it in to sound sweeter in the cleans yes, but lots of people say the Deville is bad sounding, its not bad sounding at all, just as good as Marshalls most expensive head, oh i also owned a Bassman, which is really sweet, but the Deville is more shape able in the eq section, all in all i prefer the Deville.
Played one for 2 hours at a rental studio yesterday. Honestly, I could not really ask for more. The power is massive. The reverb sounds awesome. Using the master and drive was easy to get great tones. One of these used is a no brainer if a Princeton isn't enough for ya... Rockin.
I added the little black box amp volume knob to my paddleboard going through the loop. I am able to crank the Deville up to whatever I want to get break up. Bring the volume knob down and the tone is still there just at not your shattering levels. Best 45 bucks I have ever spent. Picked up a used 90s version Deville made in the USA for 300 bucks in great condition. It’s an inspiration monster.
Sold! I've just started building out my gear, and I've been lost in the amp swamp for weeks, and this review FINALLY pushed me over the edge to what I want. It's on its way to me now -- thank you so much for this!
yea this amp is absolutely great. my buddy has had one since the 90s and has never replaced the tubes once…. still works in perfect condition like brand new
I can’t believe I just found this. I’m trying to troubleshoot my dad’s old Hot Rod Deville, this definitely gives me some inspiration to keep working on it
Charlie Thorne Me and my dad figured out that the reverb setting has a short in it, I put new tubes in it and as long as I don’t mess with the reverb it’ll play without all the popping. Definitely works better than the old karaoke speaker I used to play into lol
5 years later. You make that amp sing. I bought mine in 1997, only played a few hours on it and it's in covered in house storage. I took the Hot Rod out on my deck one night and plugged in my guitar. I only had it up to 3 on the master volume. I live 1 mile from the fire station in our village. Friends were walking their dog around the block and were a mile away by the fire station. They could hear my guitar via the Hot Rod Deville. Volume 3. I hadn't used the amp because I got almost full time into acoustic guitar playing. Unplugged. I just got me a Lefty Tele. Black. I'm going to take the dust cover off of the hot rod real soon. Thanks for the Hot Rod review, Marty.
Marty, I picked one up in Anaheim this last weekend. It was a hot day for Orange County folks; about 92 degrees. I picked up a very clean Fender Hot Rod DeVille 212 in perfect shape, complete with cover for $380. It was a steal. Then on back home to 116 degrees in the Coachella Valley. You don't know hot until you've lived here.
I've got a 212 DeVille that I bought new in 2001 - it's one of the last USA-made models. I prefer the 2x12's to the 4x10's for their deeper, fuller tone. This amp has been my #1 for many years and is still running strong today. It's got a fantastic clean tone & is a great pedal platform amp. Only complaint is the unusable Drive/More Drive channels, but I just stick to the clean channel & use pedals for OD & Distortion. Had to laugh when Marty said "It's lighter than a Twin". Very few amps are that heavy. The DeVille is still a heavy amp nonetheless, I suggest some sort of hand truck or road case with casters on it to move the DeVille around. But overall it's a great amp - I will keep it as long as I play guitar and probably will hand it down to my son when he starts learning how to play.
I bought one the first year it came out, 1996. Have played it thousands of hours. Great amp, never let me down. I've got many other amps but love this one the most.
These are definitely the best amps overall, I have an early fender hot rod deville 4x10, and I use it to play everything live from blues to metal with my pedals, and it never fails to deliver!
Classic Fender Clean that takes pedals to get whatever sound you need! Hard to go wrong! Love the SURF Tone with the REVERB! Thanks Marty! I've used a '59 Bassman Reissue for the same type of platform. ;)
Ive had the 4x10 version of this amp for 10 years. Sounds great still, super flexible. I play pretty much everything on it. Lots of surf especially, and the reverb is unmatched. No reverb pedal I've ever owned, sounds this good.
I’m currently using a Twin Reverb but it’s borrowed and I want a gigging amp of my own. Shopping on specs alone I arrived at the Hot Rod Deville but needed to hear it to be sure it was the sound I need. This video pretty much sold me.
I’ve personally always been a fan of the 4x10 Devilles. They sound a bit more sparkly to me, but not as sparkly as a twin. Deviles are my second or third favorite amp but I can just never get over the classic tone of a Fender Twin...
I love the sound of Fender tube amps! Heavy though. I bought a used Twin from a Guitar Center in CA. It came in an unmarked box, so the UPS guy didn't know what it was. As he moved the box to the porch he said, "MAN, THIS IS HEAVY!!!!" Lol. Cracked me up when he said that. He was a really strong looking guy too.
I have the same amp ...a dream. I ve put a knob on in to reduce clean volume so you can drive it clean.. that in combination with a les Paul is awesome

@@callmeej8399 just so you know it is ridiculously loud definitely not for home use. I have to take it somewhere I can crank it up for it to sound the way I want and compress the way a tube amp should. Its overkill for small gigs. As long as you know that, the amp was worth every penny

My dad has owned both this exact amp and a fender blues Junior since the 1990s. Both sound great, even when you aren't using any pedals. I think he's had to have the tubes replaced once in that time.
It’s a great amp. Loud as hell and the drive is good for lighter hearted guitar music. Ultimately I sold it because I wanted a higher gain amp but this is a good pedal platform. And as Marty said, the reverb is AMAZING.
I also agree this is the amp in this price range. I worked for 14 years at a venue that had this and a Deluxe Reverb and I always recommended the Deville.
Just bought a Vox VT40X hybrid modeler. I'd love to see you put it thru the paces. I love the warmth, the swiss army knife variety and the price. And its small gig loud. I think you'd enjoy it too. Thanks for everything.
Picked up one of those years ago at the pawn shop. It was my go to amp they had to test out any guitars I was purchasing at the time. It sat there for 6 months with a $799 price tag. I offered 500 they wouldn't take it. Couple months later, it was still sitting there. Now with a 699 price tag. Again offered 500. Nope. Guest the guy should have taken my 500 when I offered it lol. Great amp! I still have it.
Recently got one of these and I can confirm, great solid tone, love it. I was having issues with a bit of a tube rattle, but just heard yours do the same so I guess it's cool? Thanks Marty!
Honestly yeah. I agree. I love a deville. Not even just a hot rod. Hot rod on its own are great for the price. But it don’t mean crap when your on a stage unless it’s a deville
You are the Man Marty!! Thanks for all the content that you provide and being yourself.. Have successfully applied many of your teachings. Thank you sir!
Hi Marty, what amp would you prefer if you aren't gigging....say if it was an amp to have at your house, the deville or deluxe 65 reverb? Does one offer more do you think, aside from being loud?
I'm stuck between this and a supersonic 22. I like the 22 a little better for drive tones. I like the reverb on the hot rod a little better. My only real gripe with the hotrod is will that 22 watts be loud enough. But I don't see why it shouldn't be because it has an external speaker Jack. Where the hot rod does not. But there are also questions of if you use the supersonic 22 with an external speaker cabinet if your able to use the internal speaker as well. So im undecided
I have that amp. It was my dream amp thanks to watching Mark Agnesi play one at Norman’s Rare Guitars. I absolutely love the thing. You’re spot on about the reverb Marty because it’s awesome. I picked mine up used at my local guitar center and haven’t looked back since.

Recently got one of these and I can confirm, great solid tone, love it. I was having issues with a bit of a tube rattle, but just heard yours do the same so I guess it's cool? Thanks Marty!
Around how much do they run for new ?
Please do 2nd back in black solo
Honestly yeah. I agree. I love a deville. Not even just a hot rod. Hot rod on its own are great for the price. But it don’t mean crap when your on a stage unless it’s a deville
marty what is that 335 in this vid? and what pickups? its amazing. so is the amp, but that axe is the bomb 💣
You are the Man Marty!!
Thanks for all the content that you provide and being yourself..
Have successfully applied many of your teachings.
Thank you sir!
Ps. I have a sweet 212 deville from 1996 and agree about the diversity of possible sweet tones..
Poor man's TRRI

Hey marty can you do a tutorial on Highway Song by Blackfoot??
outstanding playing ! Marty is groovy cat yo !
I've always wanted to try one of these amps! Great video, Marty!!
Dick Dale moment aside, that sounds great. I have a Bassbreaker with twin 12" that I like. Does the job for me.
What a Lovely song to play ! Love You marty !
I have the Michael Landau amp and love it. Great sounding review!
I have that amp. It was my dream amp thanks to watching Mark Agnesi play one at Norman’s Rare Guitars. I absolutely love the thing. You’re spot on about the reverb Marty because it’s awesome. I picked mine up used at my local guitar center and haven’t looked back since.
Thanks for another great video marty
I picked up a 96’ model up recently from Offer Up for $200 best deal ever !
