Not exactly one of their heavy rock songs… sometimes Kevin Cronin sort of rubbed me the wrong way… he’s saying a lot of great songs… put on songs like this one…. I just can’t.
The guitar solos, on roll with the changes are legendary.. Gary doesn’t get enough credit for making their great songs great because he’s the one that did it
@@gregoryduncan3067Or...the album "High Infidelity" was released November 21st, 1980 and this show was December 5th. I remember very clearly what a monster hit this album was but I associate it with 1981. I guarantee you that if this show had been two months later they would have been goung crazy.
No sorry mate,,kevin Cronin made reo speedwagon, without him reo success, would've been nullified, kevin has an amazing voice,,so unique 😊John Martin Sydney Australia 🇦🇺

Wasn’t live and the beginning of the end with Cronin taking over the band that was never his to begin with. He led them down the road of pop destruction.

Nine Lives was a very heavy album for them but it didn't do as good as Tuna Fish. Seems to me like that would be a logical direction for them to go in.
I remember in junior high school having a lively conversation with a girl sitting next to me in the same class, saying, "This song is wonderful, isn't it?
Just my opinion "High Infidelity" one of the best albums of my youth and a one hit wonder, BUT there's always a but, they were not great song writers and to me that's why there were only considered a mediocre band I tried many times to listen to their other albums and if not for Gary they just weren't worth my time and if you ask most people the only song or album they know of them comes from High Infidelity and Gary was wasted in this band
This is a fine example of what real music 🎶 🎵 sounds like. They were on the best music 🎶 🎵 show ever. It was the Midnight Special. Wolfman Jack was an amazing host. He kept the rock and roll going on every weekend.
Actual story is Neil Dougherty came home and his wife left him a letter saying she was leaving him for the guy who provided them with “illegal substances “. His reaction. I ‘m going to miss that guy
We all know Gray is fabulous on guitar , but it is cool to watch Neal Doughty play keys. He never got the recognition he deserved.

@@janiterinadrum1627What? Are you drunk?
Life's a Beach 🏖️
The singer with the best Diction in all of Rock n Roll.
Lol, it's true. Can't think of anyone betterrrr.
Could the audience look any less enthusiastic…that album is awesome from beginning to end
agree
I agree on both counts.
They were
transfixed/spellbound/mesmerized
(rendered motionless😅)
by the brilliance of the song❣️
Or they were just plain clinical.

I think Richrath penned this song. He was a rock god. He and Doughty made REO.

very unusual to see Gary without his Les Paul strapped on
Saw them a couple of times when they came to Trinidad and Tobago. America should declare this band a National Treasure.
Indeed
Did many bands come to Trinidad then?
Siii, ¡¡¡¡¡¡magnífica banda!!!!!!
Amazing masterpiece from the summer of my years.
Underrated song, love it!
They should re-release it as “In your email” for today’s generation.
The Midnight Special is life. The rest is just details.
😊 I love this comment ❤
They could put that on a T-shirt. Make a million bucks with it.
I was 12 when The Midnight Special first aired and was 21 when it was cancelled. In those 9 years there were some great acts, that's for sure.
I had forgotten about this REO song. It sounds like an early 1960s pop song or doo-wop song -- very different from many of REO's other hits.
Kevin's songwriting is so versatile. That's what I love about him.
Even 50 s
@@kellyheath6952 Agreed. I was thinking mid-1950s to early 1960s, or something like that.
Or like something Manfred Mann could've done (like Doo Wah Diddy Diddy).
Variety is the spice of life
They need to get some "Midnight Special" merch and tee shirts going on...
One of my favorites.... ✍️
It's not letters anymore it's texts.
Happy Saturday... thank you for sharing! 💖
Wow, you’re so right about the analogy of no letters but texts now, thank you for the insight…😃
@@KittyGrizGriz Thank you for sharing! 💖
Kevin Cronin looks~acts like a doofus here, don’t throw tomatoes at me haha, not liking the song either…
Cronin always creeps me out with that 1000 yd stare of his.
lol His eyes were on the prize
definitely polarizing figure! Love his voice!
It’s your gay side trying to tell you something.

Is that an organ sound coming out of a twelve string electric?
当時、この曲を聴いて「80年代のビートルズ」だと思った

El solo de piano ❤ ...mortal❤
I swear I've heard this during a Scooby-Doo chase scene. I know if I got to look it won't be in any, but I swear I've heard it in one.
It's similar to the style of music that was used in chase scenes in some of the original "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?" episodes.
Great music, good classic song and brings back good times.
The piano player looks like Sam from "The Lord of the Rings."
Reo is the best

Marvelous 😊
And so begins the Kevin influenced "soft rock" era. Made them a lot of money but still a pity.
they were always soft and AOR
It's a transition to pop for sure, but IMHO, Hi Infidelity is still a very good record in the pop space.
Nine Lives was a very heavy album for them but it didn't do as good as Tuna Fish. Seems to me like that would be a logical direction for them to go in.
💯 I agree. They lost me as a fan when they put this album out. I bought this album and end up giving it away to a girl I worked with.
@@JulioLeonFandinho you need to listen to Live, You Get What You Play For. Rocks from start to finish.

This song gives me CHILLS. !
I never heard this before, great retro song
The story behind this one in priceless

What happened to that band. Not saying those songs aren't good. But how did they go from golden country. To this.
To make them big bucks
@@kellyheath6952 but I thought musicians are in it for the music. Not the money lll
What a fantastic group I really love this group and thier music
Great song just check it out
THANK YOU MIDNIGHT SPECIAL
for making me wonder WHAT IS THAT GUITAR GARY RICHRATH IS PLAYING!!!!
I wonder, too. It looks like a 12 string at 1:29.
I was wondering same...lol

Listen to that bass back beat through the whole song.
노래 진짜 좋다... 저 시절에 어떻게 이런 곡을 만들었을까
Why does the audience appear to be angry and disappointed ⁉️
Probably because of the way the lead singer was staring 👀 @ them 😜 😂
Bonitos recuerdos
Not one of their better efforts
REO Speedwagon ............ PERÚ !
I forgot about this song! I liked it for its nostalgic sound... Strange to think three days later, the world would mourn a tragic loss.🥲
Maybe John Lennon watched that episode before he died. Who knows?
@@gregoryduncan3067 Anything's possible, I suppose.
That's true.
Has a Neil Sedaka vibe
That's an interesting angle to look at it from.
never saw them have backup singers before like on here.
Kevin Cronin's smile is just infectious
They are great-first concert with my wife in 1987🥰
Before Autotune, there were REAL singers!!
So, I take it he’s still a bit upset about how his ex-girlfriend ended it? I might be reading him wrong though.

The band is the best and vocal lead

I love the expression on the girl’s face at around 2:50, in the pink sweater. I wonder if SHE is the girl with the poisoned pen? Hmm. . . .
