1996, I visited the school, in Phnom Penh, that was used as torture prison. The feeling of utter helplessness and abandonment was overwhelming. This pain was and is still past on to future generations. As a former German, I know that the capacity for evil acts is not owned by one Nation only, but is part of who we can decide to be. Those who oppose it, often pay a high price. We are facing similar times, on a global scale. It's time to resist the war mongers and those who pretend to act in the 'Public's Interest!'

Invasions are usually wrong and illegal, but Vietnam in 1979 invaded Cambodia to stop Pol Pot's genocide.
Few objected, but the US subsequently fought for Pol Pot to have a seat at the UN!
Search "R2P: Responsibility to Protect" as a legal defense for Vietnam, and in February, 2022, for Russia to prevent the "ethnic cleansing" of Donbas.
The UN recognizes the right of people to vote and secede from one country and join another, or be independent.
Just as the corporate media brainwashed the American people about Indochina, they have done the same with Ukraine and Russia.

The Khmer Rouge was killing people in massive numbers. The US was not supposed to be in Cambodia but we were. I know an army ranger who was dropped into the country and was captured by the KR. He was lined up in front of a firing squad 3 times and 3 times he pissed his pants. Each time they used blanks. Later the US sent in troops to get them out and at one point the enemy pointed a pistol at him and it misfired. Later after his service he related this story to me. He was not right after that trama but who could blame him. So I agree Kissinger was a no good prick but the whole story is not being told. We were in Cambodia on the ground even though the US denies it.

I have asked my father who is now 72 years old to write his memoir about the bombing. He used to tell how he and his friends and villagers ran for their lives while their village in Takeo province was bombing. It was terrifying. Also, I heard that farmers need to harvest their rice at nighttime to avoid the bombing at daytime. It resonates with me about the phrase he uses 'shot at everything that moves'. These behaviors, the atrocities will continue until the root cause is addressed. This doesn't mean that he has no fault but not addressing the US responsibility allows us to continue to commit these types of atrocities. That's what needs to be talked about.

God maybe allowed the devil to keep him alive, hoping that he might regret his evil actions and turn to God, or the devil has free hands to keep him alive, and then when it pleases him to end his life and let him end as a lost soul, because God dont want evil people in His Heaven.

I was in my early 20's when this was happening. The bombing of Cambodia and then Kent State had a profound effect upon my worldview. I decided then that I would move to Costa Rica when I retired because they have no military. In 2014, I decided to travel to Cambodia just one time before I headed to Central America. I fell in love with the Cambodia people. I am in my seventh year living in Cambodia. I have a wife and two adult daughters now. My wife's homeland is very near the VN border. She was born in 1977...in the middle of the genocide. Her mother was a victim of the Khmer Rouge in 1978.

This was a big boost for the communists' morale in North Viet Nam. This angered many US soldiers, and still anger them even to this day. However, decades later, Jane Fonda confessed that she had a lapse in judgment at that time when the photo was taken.
It's unfortunate that this video shows only one side of the story.

@@tyronekim3506 That's not an accurate contextualisation of Jane Fonda's visit to North Vietnam nor of most relevance to the issue at hand, her persistent conduct choices. She indeed also made a number of propaganda radio broadcasts on behalf of North Vietnam which is what in fact resulted in her being labelled as 'Hanoi Jane' and also handed over to North Vietnamese jailers, a note that one of the US POW's at the 'Hanoi Hilton' prison had covertly passed to her during a visit, which resulted in that prisoner being subject to severe torture. As a US citizen, Fonda's actions in providing both material and moral assistance to a belligerent nation during a time of conflict were utterly inexcusable regardless of her political loyalties or opinions regarding this. True to her immoral, self-centred personality Fonda has consistently lied about and contradicted her own statements, attempted explanations and apologies for these actions on a number of occasions over the subsequent years.

Greetings from Cambodia. I protested the war and illegal/immoral bombings perpetrated by this disgusting, evil man during my high school and college years in Indiana. I came to Southeast Asia 10 years ago as an apology for what was done here in the name of my country. I can assist students with English if they think that is something that will help them achieve their goals and support their families.
I've heard the horrifying stories of what my country did here in Cambodia and Laos in the villages of my students. Unexploded ordinates dropped on the people here still take an average of one life a week or physically maim villagers nearly 50 years later--usually farmers working in the fields or children thinking the baseball-sized ordinates are toys. The US set the foundation for the mass murders by Khmer Rouge in re-purposed school buildings and temple grounds. I met an elderly man once in Phoenix when I was back in the US teaching for a few months. He was driving a sports car and returning from a game of pool with buddies at a bar. He smiled as he told me about his job loading US bombers in Thailand for the bombing raids over Cambodia and Laos. I'm glad to be back in Southeast Asia.

My uncle took me up into his B52, in the 1950's, when it was parked next to the hangar for a full servicing of its nuclear payload. The first thing I noticed was his eye patch hanging from the pilot controls. He explained that he would put it on before the start of the bombing run to protect one eye, to be able to continue his mission, after a flash that was expected to blind his unprotected eye. My uncle was a warrior willing to sacrifice his life to protect Freedom. He refused to commit "B 52" war crimes in the "Vietnam" war after he and his B52 were sent to Guam for that purpose. The evil in the US air force then tried to see he would be killed by pulling him out of his B52 and putting him, alone, in an unarmored, single engine, Cessna to fly forward air control for field artillery where 1/2 the pilots, so assigned, died. He survived and drove up from the Colorado Springs air base, as he was being mustered out, to visit me at school in Denver and tell me the details of what was going on, that forced him to take the stand he did , that forced him out of the air force. Peter was a Honorable True Warrior.

Who sold war bonds in WW2? Who financed, supplied, constructed, staffed, advised, own the patents, and controlled the Manhattan Project? Who were manufacturing bombers and bombs for the Vietnam War? Who owned all the necessary raw materials and factories for war productions? Who should be past tense and who are present?

My girlfriend who is Cambodian was about 8 years old at this time this led to her entire family being killed. I think it's safe to say how there is not one family in Cambodia who did not lose a family member from the murderous bombings of America on Cambodia at Nixon and Kissinger's behest. I love this girl and she has had to live with this all her life her father her mother everybody dead nine brothers all dead she was the only one to survived.
Presently I'm working on a movie where the beginning of the movie is America dropping bombs on Cambodia and it's about a Khmer family and their plight to try to save the children in the end there's only two children left everybody else is dead. I would love to see this become a really nice movie it deserves it.

On this Memorial Day, I humbly pay tribute to the millions of Cambodians who lost their lives as the result of this man decision. I almost die from malnutrition during the regimes changes and political turmoil in the country. I was young and didn't comprehend what the hell was going on with massive of people evacuation. Now I know. There were young people and elders, the cripples and people who were severely ill got separated from family and left behind without food or water on the side of the road. During this period of time, I loss my youngest brother and later on my father perished under the ruthless regime. When I was young, I used to think the U.S. is the fine example for all other nations to look up to the U.S. The U.S. is a rich country driven by war machines paid by taxpayers; the working poor. Now a day. I think we need to evaluate ourselve. Because of the past experienced this is why Cambodian govt is very closed allied with China, to say the least.

For the height of injustice * is to seem just without being so. To the perfectly unjust man, then, we must assign perfect injustice and withhold nothing of it, but we must allow him, while committing the greatest Wrongs, to have secured for himself the greatest reputation for justice; and if he does happen to trip,*' we must concede to him the power to correct his mistakes by his ability to speak persuasively if any of his misdeeds come to light, and when force is needed, to employ force by reason of his manly spirit and vigour and his provision of friends and money ; and when we have set up an unjust man of this character, our theory must set the just man at his side-a simple and noble man, who, in the phrase of Aeschylus, does not wish to seem but be good....
We must tell it, then ; and even if my language is somewhat rude and brutal,'' you must not suppose, Socrates, that it is I who speak thus, but those who commend injustice above justice. What they will say is this : that such being his disposition the just man -will have to endure the lash, the rack, chains, the branding-iron in his eyes, and finally, after every extremity of suffering, he will be crucified,*' and so will learn his lesson that not to be but to seem just is what we ought to desire."

Public psychology of a nasty episode like the Vietnam era is a quirky quagmire of contradiction and wishful thinking. I grew up during the Vietnam War here in the US and it was a very confusing time for a young boy's' formative years.
Our society was very divided with compounded facets that didn't always drop down along the generation gap lines. It wasn't that simple. But what I have noticed, most curiously, is the romanticism of the war and the efforts to turn it in some great noble thing that it never was. That is how most people deal with a national trama like that, and people like me that are sticklers for the historical truth are hated by them for not jumping on their bandwagon of denial and historical revision. Kissinger benefited from this need of the public to brainscrew themselves so as not to deal it anymore. I speak the truth, and I feel it is important to hold the establishment and their henchmen like Kissinger accountable. If more Americans felt that way the Iraq War would not have happened.

      @HearturMind ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, agreed, we Americans are very good at not looking too carefully at what is going on which plays well into government whitewashing and delayed release of what really went on. Michael Parenti's book he put together from freedom of information data, The Sword and the Dollar, lays out the series of many US covert and overt wars in just one period that now seems antique. His book shows also the corporate connections to many of our incursions to control other countries leadership. He had to leave DC because his books, lectures and FOIA requests had resulted in some scary situations that made him concerned for his safety. I also met an elegant man in DC who in the early phase of the Vietnam war was sent to give shoeboxes of cash to local village chiefs to try buying them off to our side. He was chosen because he looked like the Lawrence of Arabia character. He said when that didn't work, then certain men including Kissinger got their way and the bombing started. Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Burma, Ukraine, the list of countries we factor in greatly for their destruction grows longer all the time. Yes, it would be good to hold certain people accountable individually for their crimes but look at Germany and their reparations and programs that continue to this day to help financially and build relations, cultural bonds and projects, educational cooperation with the countries Hitler devastated. As a result, they prosper, produce some of the best science because they are not beholden to tyranny including corporate tyranny as their culture of preventing their country from being taken over has helped them greatly. That program was the US idea we exported and now we are in the throes of the corporate military takeover and paying the price for neglecting education with a population who will elect sell out buffoons who are bent on ending the democratic experiment. At least DN has these discussions. Even colleges barely encourage it anymore, afraid of angering the big donors.
