I know I will! My family lived in New Germany 1988-1992 and my father ran Comrades in 1990 and 91. He will be watching as I follow his footsteps 34 years later!
Great video, thanks. Last tip reminded me that I shouldn’t forget chamois cream. I noticed on long races that I started chaffing in an area totally unexpected, between the butt cheeks. I couldn’t understand why this was happening, I broke it down as to why it only happens in races but never in training, turns out it was the water I was pouring over my head and chest that was dripping down something I don’t do in training.
I think it has something to do with: When you run with earphones you might not hear Marshal / Referee instructions or traffic. Also, it could be possible for someone to transmit pacing to the runner that is not allowed for the elite runners. I do not use earphones --> I want to hear mother nature and the runners around me. There are some runners who ran with a portable speaker and broadcasted music along the way. Some in their hands, others carried it in a backpack.
@@andremaakal6069 ah thanks so much for the reply. That does make sense. Having seen a few videos of the marathon, all the people cheering the runners on from the side are amazing. I wouldn’t want to miss out on their support. That would be motivation enough :)
@ricardofernandes7606, I donate the blanket. When they open the seeding pens and we move forward, then I throw it to the side over the fence. There will be someone out there who will sleep warmer that night.
Thx Partner! Comrades in reach now

Thanks for sharing, very useful tips for novices, especially the part on wasting valuable time.
Dankie 👍🏻
Very interesting video. Can I ask why you can’t have earphones? I couldn’t imagine sound such a long marathon without music to keep me motivated

Good video. Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
Thank you so much. Loads of these tips I've overlooked, and are key to the race. I'm gonna carry a tub of Vaseline on me. 😂
Excellent tips, thank you
Brilliant! Very useful tips!
Legend! Baie dankie André!
I'll kip the last tip in mind 😅
The blanket is a great recommendation for before the race. However, what do you do with it when you start running?
@ricardofernandes7606, I donate the blanket. When they open the seeding pens and we move forward, then I throw it to the side over the fence. There will be someone out there who will sleep warmer that night.
Thank you soooo much #novice😊
Imagine deep heat in place of Vaseline in the groin n🤣ot fun at all.. Thank you for sharing!
You might run a new PB if you do that! 🙂
