Only slip up was Jonathan asking Scorsese if he's ever been tempted to put himself in one of his movies "like Hitchcock". He does that in almost all of them, and in Taxi Driver he even has a small but quite significant speaking role.
Jonathan is such a movie geek there's no way he didn't already know that! Looking back at interviews like these, he was very good at keeping it "broad" and asking questions he already knew the answer to, without dumbing it down too much.
It's amazing. I didn't realize it was such a hit in England, but it's good to know. Why in the hell it wasn't better received here in the USA is just baffling to me.
@@PeterJPickles That point is so good I'll have to concede, which I do rarely. Yeah, Branagh is not bad but he never scored any triumphs like The Aviator.

To have such a prolific career and still be doing some of the best, if not the best, cinema in the world for 5 decades is insane. Killers of the Flower Moon is one of his absolute best. He is still going as strong as ever. Grand Master level. Few filmmakers reach this status. Hitchcock, Fellini, Kubrick, Wong kar wai. Obviously there are more but these come to mind immediately.

The closest thing Scorcese did to a sci-fi film ended up being the animated picture Hugo in 2011. Edit: Hugo is not animated. No idea why I thought it was.
@@CATDHD You are 100% right! I have zero idea why I thought it was. I haven't seen it, but clearly I'm confusing it with a 3D animated film about a boy in the early 20th century. Maybe Polar Express? Thanks for pointing it out. I must be getting old.

"This Boy's Life" is one of DiCaprio's best movies and performances. His acting is up there with his performance in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". And he was still young when he acted in "This Boy's Life", next to Robert DeNiro in his prime.

There is one Scorsese movie I have not seen yet but am highly interested in, preferably to watch at a cinema: "Box Car Bertha". It seems hard to come by at a reasonable price for the home cinema as well. The book it is based on is a highly interesting read, based on research among the United States' destitute population during the 1920s, if I remember correctly. I highly recommend "King of Comedy", I count it among Scorsese's best work, up there with "Taxi Driver", "Bringing Out the Dead" and "Killers of the Flower Moon".
I'd have to say, Jonathan Ross is not the greatest interviewer... asks a lot of questions, but doesn't follow up on them. For example, I would've loved to know what young, up-and-coming actors Scorsese wanted to work with back then.
Most chat show hosts are lousy interviewers. They're always going for the laughs and they churn through the guests like cattle. They're not interested in the person, just in asking the same dull questions, plugging the project and trying to get a few cheap laughs. It's all about selling ads.

as much as a good film Goodfellas was, it didn't deserver to win best picture or director when something like Dances with Wolves was in the roster. Movies like Dances are once in a generation kind of movie watching experience. A concoction in a bottle so magical that even its own creators would fail miserably if they ever tried to recreate it again.
"Dances with Wolves" and "Killers of the Flower Moon" are Western classics, on the same level as "Heaven's Gate", movies that gave the victims of history their due in terms of attention. Good cinema as well from a technical point of view. Other great ones are "Little Big Man" and "There will Be Blood".
Bullshit. Scorsese does not have any connections to those circles. He is an old school Italian guy who lived most of his life in New York and not in Hollywood.
