    I am a BIG WT 101 fan. I drink it straight, on the rocks, and in a cocktail. I have some friends who consider me to have no sense of tast because I drink it, but they tend to not drink ANYTHING that costs less than $125 a bottle, so I'm not sure how to take that.
    All of that being said, Wild turkey 101 is one of the best mixing bourbons that i've found. It has a strong enough taste to stand up under the weight of the other ingredients, and the proof is high enough that a little ice won't water the drink down too badly. Plus, as i've told those above-mentioned friends, I believe that they changed their mash bill a bit from when I first tried it (1986) I remember back then it was unfavorably compared to pait remover. Now, it tastes good.
    Great video guys!

      Ah, well there you have it Kris - you’re friends are twats and this is proof.
      I’ve tried them all. From Evan Williams White to Pappy and BTAC several times over. And I still go back to Wild Turkey. It was the first bourbon I’ve had and will probably be the last. It keeps getting better in fact. And is the true test of people that have taste, or just money. Tell you’re friends to fight over Blantons like all the other Taters.
      I’ll take the Kickin Chicken any time.

    One factor that is getting left out on these ratings is price point. I really like WT 101, and if I were to give it a rating based on under-$30 bourbons, I'd put it at a solid 4.5/5. But if I were rating it amongst all bourbons at any price, I think it would be struggling to call it a 3/5.

      I started my whiskey journey this year with a mixture of Scotch and Bourbon. Almost all of the Bourbon was a big disappointment due to too much oak.
      WT101 has been the only one (aside from Four Roses - but 80% proof here [UK]) this far without the overwhelming oak notes: caramel, orange peel, vanilla, baked spice and Carribbean sweetness. Throw in 101 proof and now I understand why people complain about 80 proof (40% ABV).
      Richer mouthfeel, with more flavour depth.
      Bought a bottle earlier today on sale with Tesco Clubcard for £25.00. Great value

    • @putonghua73
      @putonghua73 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wow! Mind blown by flavour cloud notes. I get the derivatives of oak e.g. vanilla, chocolate but not oak itself. Woodford Reserve is the definition of oak for me.
      Likewise, cherry. I immediately think Buffalo Trace - not WT101.
      I'm glad I've found a bourbon where my taste buds get all the notes that I want in bourbon, without those that I dislike.

    • @putonghua73
      @putonghua73 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Replying to one's own replies is generally a faux pas, so apologies.
      After hearing Rex use Ardbeg as a descriptor, I had a dram yesterday and the dominant note was iodine!
      I am unsure if WT101 changes dramatically with each glass or more a case that both my brain and palate are highly suggestible at this stage of drinking whiskey.
      Hence, if you have the opportunity and friends to assist, try to drink blind to help eliminate any bias or suggestion.

  • @sokar_rostau

    I drank a lot of Jim Beam in my younger days, and tried Jack Daniels a few times but hated it. Wild Turkey (WT, Rye, 101, Rare Breed) has been my drink of choice for over 25 years. It's not as offensive to my senses as JD and it's better than Beam in almost every way (Beam & Coke > Turkey & Coke). The main reason I prefer the Ugly Bird is that it never gives me a hangover, while other types of booze can give me one after only a single shot. While I was a big weekend drinker in my early 20s, these days two bottles in a year is a bit excessive.
    And yet here I am, at 2pm on a Sunday, with my nose stuck in a glass of Wild Turkey trying to see if I can smell anything other than booze and bourbon. I think maybe the JD I drank 30 years ago has burnt my senses because all I can smell is bourbon that doesn't make me want to vomit.

    Daniel, you described the TX bourbon as being softer on the oak and tannin, and that got me thinking. We all know that the Texas climate tends to extract barrel notes much more quickly than Scotland and even Kentucky and Indiana. I do love what that can do (I'm looking at /you/ Balcones Pot Still Bourbon), but as I understand, it's easier to over oak the whiskey. I would love to hear (and honestly taste) how the Texas climate affects the aging of a spirit in second use barrels! What happens when you have faster extraction of flavors, but most of the tannins and aggressive oak flavors have already been extracted?

    Once I´ve tried Booker´s on a big ice cube. The first sip was great, the second was ok, and the third was terrible. It was like in 20 seconds and it was undrinkable. And Booker´s is over 60% alcohol. So I don´t really understand even considering any whisky on the ice at all. I think that people just pretend to drink whisky on ice because it looks cool in the glass, but nobody really drinks it, right? But drinking it neat is another story. I had a bottle of Wild Turkey once and it was so harsh, that I thought that a 100 proof is simply too strong. Then I´ve bought Rare Breed and it was a beautiful bourbon 🙂

    I was gonna say that I had wild turkey in the past and that I liked the design of the box more than the whisky itself, but I wasn't sure so I asked ChatGPT:
    "what's the name of that whisky that has a chicken on the box?"
    "The whisky you might be referring to is "The Famous Grouse." The Famous Grouse is a blended Scotch whisky known for its distinctive bottle design featuring a red grouse, a bird native to Scotland. The brand is quite popular and widely available. Please note that there may be other whiskies with chicken or bird imagery on their packaging, but The Famous Grouse is a well-known example."

    Having one now. I think it is the best value Bourbon in PA. I paid less than $25.

    I DARE you to watch that into and NOT say "My Lord I want to hang out with that woman." Mooch is off the charts clever and entertaining, but Brianna is pure gobble-gobble-gold.

    I notice somebody said Wild Turkey 101 tastes like “regret.” I feel ya, buddy.
    Someone else said it tastes like “Matthew McConaughey.” About that, the less said, the better.

    Pour two Murka ounces in a glass with a little ice, and sip on it whilst engaging your weekend friends in the inimitable game of nine ball. Or, just sit in a quiet corner and plot your Next Big Move, but this is an unpretentious, strong, and not too expensive way to alter your mood without the BS, or breaking the bank.

    I got the Nickname Uncle Turkey for my love of this spirit and cause I make turkey noises at baby's to make them like me, it works every time. 😄

    This is my go to whiskey to mix with coke. It’s cheap and higher proof. That’s all I need from a whiskey that I’m mixing

    Can't drink wild turkey. I don't know why but wild turkey just makes my stomach upset.

    I prefer rye in both Old Fashioned and Manhattans. But Wild Turkey 101 does go well in the Old Fashioned.

    I'll be honest, I've never had Wild Turkey. Still not sure if I want to. Even after this video, and I like bourbon.
