Just paused the video at 2:00 to say That i totally got your love for this game. It is also the game of My childhood. This was my first contact with RTS games and i remember how serious i was playing it because i felt that i was playing a very "adult" and complex game with things to bulid, army to train and be a part of the ancient mitological history like troy and of course, Atlantis. The game was fully translated to my Language (Brazilian Portuguese) and i felt so involved in the campaing that it felt like i was in a movie. This game got me to search a lot about mithology and history and planted a seed in my head about Atlantis that only grew and now I have a Fantasy/Fiction Book Published about Atlantis (my take of the legend). I Always play the campaing over and over, but since the anoucement of "Retold" I'm holding myself for the release. I get super happy to see people that also love this game, it is not just another RTS, this game have a soul and something very originial. It introduce me to the Age of Empires games, that i also love, but not as much as Mythology.
I just hope that playability will be up to modern RTS standards, with good pathing, QOL, responsiveness etc. because art, graphic effects, details are absolutely amazing, it can be the best e-sports ready Age game
This is all so beautiful and unbelievable that this game is coming back to life with fresh look, i just pray that there will be more campaigns and that the old have new quests, maybe new missions then it would be perfect !
So amped for this. AoM was my childhood game along with GTA:SA but it sparked so many of the interests I have now, and it always such a bummer that it was in the shadow of AoE II or III and didn't get it's proper time in the sun. The fact that they are trying to make it a little spicier and gear up for proper e-sports material is so cool. Cant wait!
I'm so hyped! I hope they keep the campaigns long and epic! And maybe I wouldn't mind if they also make the Atlantis campaign long as well! I hope they add more cultures.
Why settle for previous halfnaked Gaia when the new Gaia is completely naked! I don't think modern prudishness should be applied to the naked body in media featuring ancient Egyptian and Greek mythologies and culture, but I'm from Denmark what do I know. Thanks for going through the released pictures :) I missed many details when watching the show yesterday.
Perhaps I was a bit too aggressive there, sorry about that. Everybody are allowed to have their opinions. Did you guys notice that the minotaurs legs are animal like now, mirroring contemporary fantasy depictions? With digitigrade legs? In the original game they were bull headed humans and nothing else when it came to appearance.
Pretty sure each screenshot is from the campaign, the Greek city is from Titans expansion when you look at the expanded image version. Additionally I wonder if they're expanding the 32 missions into 50 with the Trojan storyline and the Atlantis missions at the end.
16:47 No, it's based on Sobek, the nile crocodile god, who became seen as an aspect of the sun in later myths. He was depicted as a crocodile with a sun disk on its head.
2:13 Odin has wolves too, not every wolves is a reference to Fenrir. 2:59 Jackal. Seth has a jackal head. And they are more than "groots". They are almost minor deities. 3:45 Dryads, the name you seek is dryads. 23:20 Hecatoncheires. And no, Hercule never wrestled, thoses are basically god-like entities older than the Titans themselves. Even a half-god would stand no chances. 23:30 Naiads. And thoses are not, they look like males.
Set doesn’t have a jackal head. Set should have the head of “sha”. It’s very different. I say dryads later I believe. Yeah they didn’t wrestle Hercules. I wonder where I got that from. And yeah naiads…in game they’re called servants. They’re male but I feel like naiads is their inspiration?
@@ChillyEmpireI checked, you are right, either the animal that represent Seth has gone extinct long ago or it's directly born from the imagination of Egyptians. Which i find funny because Seth seems to be the only case of having a invented animal. Maybe from his duel with another giant ? The one born of Gaïa that recover its strength everytime he touch the ground and that Hercule strangled in the air ? Maybe. I don't remember any mentions of any kind of water spirits that look like male aside from the Tritons... Maybe they are inspired by Nereus, the Old Man of the Sea and father of the Nereides ?
2:17 Arkantos, Amanra and Reginleif. And yeah, it's so cool of them to put Campaign heroes on the _middle_ of that artwork! 😩👌 _By the way, I don't blame you for forgetting Reginleif's name,_ hers was the one I could NEVER get it right when I was a child! Lol! 3:24 Yeah, apperantly they reimagined Gaia and the rest of the Titans. Though yeah, not sure I'm much of a fan of _this_ design, cause it looks almost too similar to the Atlanteans' Dryad. 6:26 The Hades Wonder is one of the coolest Wonders in the entire game. ✋️😌👌 I'm not quite sure I like the Colossus new posture/stance. Makes him look a bit _less_ towering than the original. Like, before, it seemed like he was looking *down* on the tiny little enemies in front of him. But I'm just nitpicking! Everything else looks _gorgeous!_ 😍 10:55 Heroic Age. 😉 The list of ages were: Archaic Age -> Classical Age -> Heroic Age -> Mythic Age 11:48 Oh yeah, they _definitelly_ improved the Nemean Lion's design. No offense to the old one, but the original looked like a metal lion, like it was made out of gold or something. THIS is a proper -and intimidating- lion, my Gods, look at that beefy boi! _Btw, yeah, that's Chiron. Hades faction doesn't get Hermes, therefore they don't have access to the Centaurs._ 14:50 Yeah, the Roc's design definitelly took an improvement. _But, seriously. *"Antennae"?* You could've said those looked like owl head feathers, my guy. _ 🤣 Don't do my homie like that! 16:25 Petsuchos. And they're *very sacred crocodiles* to the Egyptians. Show some respect, lad. 😉 18:13 *_Bro,_*_ bro,_ bro, BRO, *BROOO!* 😍 _Those Wadjets look absolutelly gorgeous...!_ 10/10, totally digging the new design! I understand the "ugly monstrous" aspect they were going gor the original, but this Wadjet REALLY looks like a creature created by a God! _Ahh... so majestic...!_ 18:24 I disagree. That looks like a eagle's beak and not the weird nostril thing Set has. Can't say I blame you for the confusion, because I looked it up *and they actually made new statues for the Egyptians!* 🤩 Like, I'm pretty sure this is supposed to be Ra, with the eagle's beak and the big globe on top that is most likely representing the Sun, but in the original, Ra's statues were just a big perched up bird looking upwards. And even Set's statue just a "jackel?"-headed human simply... standing still, not even making a dignified posture, it was just hunched over a bit. *This is a massive improvement by comparison, Holy Gods!* 18:46 Actually, that is a Campaign only building, the Pyramid of Osiris. It is a bit different from the Wonder you were showing, you can find it on the Scenario Editor. 20:01 Oh, yeah. They're definitelly changing the temple statues. Gaia's original statue depicted a woman in a robe holding a staff _and something else on her other hand, I think._ This one looks... *spicier* 😏 if you know what I mean. But, again, it fits better with her new Campaign unit design, so I'm all for it. Man, they're doing a great job with the statues so far, good heavens! 20:10 Yeah, that's definitelly Cthonian or whatever it was, the Atlantean standart Titan. *Wow, they really emphasized the "lava giant" aspect of him, but without changing his design.* That's cool! 20:54 YES! You remembered their names! 😃👍 Atta, man! Also, I always thought their original designs should've been reversed when I learned more about nymphs. Dryads, the _beautiful forst nymphs, whose beauty captivated humans and satyrs alike._ *Represented as bootleg Ents in the game.* 😑 Oh well,if they aren't gonna change that, I'm glad they changed Gaia's design to look something more _elemental, _*_Primordial,_* much more fitting for the Mother Earth. 21:25 *Let's talk about the Argus,* and how they look ABSOLUTELLY FANTASTIC in this! Holy molly! 🤩 I always loved the Argus, because it always looked like an alien creature more than a mythological one, and 9-year old me loved them just for that! And they emphasized that more with this redesign, the Argus looks like something out of Lovecraft and I LOVE IT! 👌 The round head and chaotic arrangement of eyes, looking like a DnD Beholder, the spikes at the two frontal tentacles are amazing _(the original one was funny, it would just slowly slap the enemy with run-of-the-mill tentacles after using its acid attack)_ and I love those tails from the back, they look like sea flowers or something, which fit the Atlanteans' aesthetic so much! 23:28 Those are actually Servants. (no, not the Fate ones) They're actually the aquatic myth unit of Oceanus. The "water nymph" you're thinking of are the Nereids, the shark riding ladies armed with a trident. And you get them worshipping a different Minor Titan/God. 24:33 If that is true, THANK YOU!! 🙏 Seriously! It never made _any sense_ why a creature that big couldn't just walk on the ocean floor and keep its torso up above sea level! Then the attack animations it would use against other Titans? *Use THOSE when attacking ships and monsters on water!* 28:19 Yeah, those are definitelly new units. They were not in the original game _at all._ Wonder what they are and how they play as. 28:51 Yeah, the Mountain Giant looks more... "human"? 🤨 More slim, I dunno, but yeah it's kind of a bummer he doesn't look as chubby and as beefy as the original, it really made them look "non-human" despite how similar to a human they looked... *_I don't know if that made sense, sorry._* 😅 29:49 Yeah, that is a totally made-up Scenario. Yes, they're using assets like the Yggdrasil's roots and such, but the situation presented here is *not* like the missions to the Norse underworld. 30:18 The Fenris' Wolf Brood got such a massive glowup! 🤩 That boi looks BIG and FEROCIOUS and I love it! 31:05 Nidhogg looking *majestic and hellish,* like any good dragon should. 🤩👍 _Boi, did I miss this glorious bastard._ 32:46 The Frost Giants look amazing, and yes, that is either an upgraded Frost Giant, or that is Folstag, the Hero mentioned in the Trident's Fall Campaign and then debutting in the Titans' Campaign. 33:35 _I can't get over the fact they gave Ymir tits._ 😂 All jokes aside, I love the Norse Titan's redesign, specially those "ice horns" or "ice crown" on its head, plus the ice covering the hammer, it definitelly looks better than the ice hammer it used in the original. 34:50 I think this is a recreation of that Campaign mission where you need to kill Prometheus. Kastor, Ajax and Amanra arrive to the destroyed Greek city and Arkantos instructs them to use Gaia's powers to reforest and restore life in the entire area, before you can take down Prometheus. 36:24 Hmmm... The Lampedes in general looks good, but I miss the white/grey skin they had. Really helped sell the idea of underworld nymphs, creatures that may look beautiful, but are not human. 36:59 Yeah, I had trouble remembering that one too. That one is called Caladria and it is ALSO another Myth Unit you get by worshipping Oceanus. Not much to say, I think her design here looks great, like everything else. 37:22 Yes, those are the Fanatics. *Mah bois.* 😁 If the enemy forgets to bring archers, these guys melt ANYONE! Bonus points if you Hero them up as well! 👍 By the way loving the Automaton a little down there. I always loved how their shields and coloring reminded me of the Uruk-Hai, used by Saruman in The Two Towers. Also, yeah, I love the new "dark knight" aesthetic they gave him here! 38:14 Oracles. That is what they're called. 39:23 Carnivora. That's the name of that plant. 40:08 DAMN! 😳 They got mah boi Loki looking *dripped out as fuck!* 40:49 Poseidon, the jackass. =__= Though I'm not gonna lie, that art of his is looking gorgeous too.
If I remember correctly, they are upping pop caps in the game as well! And to be honest, THAT would be the main factor for me as far as naval maps are concerned. I'm like you, I generally don't do naval based maps, and I think that has a lot to do with being spread too thin from a population standpoint. I am also crossing my fingers that we get some kind of coastal market so we can trade overseas, I think that would be an interesting dynamic to introduce.
17:09 Archimedes inventions did help defend Syracuse from the Romans but the city eventually fell and Archimedes was killed in the chaos. The sun ray on the Petsuchos Greek for sacred crocodile of Sobek could be a reference to Sobek Ra When Sobek the god of crocodiles was combined with Ra the sun god. I always had trouble playing AoM because it looked worse than AoE 2, So I'm big hyped for AoM retold. 27:23 Ulfsark would be wolf pelt wearing warrior, but it seems their champion form could be wearing a bearskin. 34:10 Thrym was a frost giant king that stole Thor's hammer I'm pretty sure that the titan design is a reference to that.
7:35 The AOE4 engine is probably owned by Relic Entertainment, the AOE3 is fully owned by Microsoft. And with the moving of AOE1 to AOE2, return of rome DLC, they have to mentain only two engines: AOE2 engine for AOE1 and AOE2, and AOM engine for AOE3 and AOM
These remakes are cool but the more I watch them the more I want to play the original game/graphics because it brings back authentic experience of times when we were young, carefree and the euphoria of installing and playing the game for the 1st time on your pentium 4. Same goes for Age of Empires, Warcraft 3, Heroes of might and magic.
16:33 Petsuchos! Also called Petsobek thanks to GGG! If they're not called Petsobek in Retold, he's gonna have an aneurysm! The reason?! Suchos is the MISTRANSLATED name of Sobek!
The devs said that god powers are reusable so maybe that's why there are multiple son of osiris since u can use the son of osiris power again and again.
Personally, i don’t like Gaia’s design change. She looks like someone from Marvel was asked to design her, god of war also had this sort of depiction, as does blood of Zeus (which is actually a good anime), however, her original appearance, both portrait and ingame model, reflected how the ancient Greeks described her, it wasn’t a 90s look, it was a culturally and historically accurate look. I wish they’d taken the opportunity to change some of the titan units though, make Cerberus an actual dog, make the Egyptian titan apep rather than horus, and the Atlantean titan typhon or something, and maybe the Norse titan Surtr, rather than Ymir, as Ymir is supposed to be dead.
for me the glowing on the hero units is a bit to much, if they could lessen it a bit it would be better, bec it feels a bit to fleshy and the rings are a no go ;D but damn the most units look awsome.

@@royasturias1784 carrying water for islamic extremists? Yikes.
The Set animal, in case no one else has said it already is called a Sha.
One theory holds that the image of Set is probably inspired by the aardvark, a long snout insectivore mammal living in Africa
38:54 It's a Citadel Center, with a new model. In the original game all Citadel Centers used egyptian graphics.
Ahhh interesting
Age of mythology along with stronghold, warcraft iii and dawn of war 1 are the games that got me into rts
@9:52 I love the attention detail on the xiphos for the colossus
Anubis is not in the cover art teaser. He was the fanservice character in the classic version
AoM is by far my favourite campaign in the series. I still prefer AoE2 and 4 for multiplayer EXCEPT for that I think Titans are a much better ultraboom win condition than Wonders
AOM campaign is goated. It set my expectations too high for every subsequent RTS game.
Amanra, from Egypt, is the one to the right of Arkantos, while to his left, is Reginleif of the valkyries.
Perhaps we will be able to build walkable bridges in Retold?
I just hope that playability will be up to modern RTS standards, with good pathing, QOL, responsiveness etc. because art, graphic effects, details are absolutely amazing, it can be the best e-sports ready Age game
The excitement in your voice is giving me life
This is all so beautiful and unbelievable that this game is coming back to life with fresh look, i just pray that there will be more campaigns and that the old have new quests, maybe new missions then it would be perfect !
Hehe i love that you are as excited to see these screenshots as any AOM fan
My all-time fav as well, gosh feels good to see others feel the same 😂❤
24:40 there is a cheat code that enables the Titan to walk on water.
Cant wait!
Age of Mythology is how I learnt English, became a fan of History, Mythology and even Geography. It had a huge impact on who I am today
Loving your breakdown
I hope to see the pros come back and see championships like what @T90Official hosts for this game.
27:22 Ulfsark literally means "wolf shirt" man xD They're wearing wolf pelts.
After watching a few Retold casts, I really wish they can adjust the game such that those big battles in the screenshots are common. So beautiful.
@@Arcodus Oh interesting...good call out!
2:55 It's called a "sha" or "set beast", other names include the "typhonian beast" and "chaos beast".
AOM has the best formula of any AOE game IMHO.
Set’s head is from what Egyptologists just call the Set animal as there is no consensus on what it is supposed to be.
@@efaristi9737 Yeah I think you're right Hercules strangled that one dude in the air
Looks promising, I never played Age of Mythology but seems to be a great old rts game.
30:00 That scenario wasn't set in the underworld in the original game, it was set in a mountain valley.
28:35 They might be a reimagined Bondi, they were norse spearmen that were cut from AOM.
I kinda hope this game uses AoE3 or AoE4 pathing and unit formations. The wonkiest part about AoM today to me is how all units move separately.
They gonna remove decaying corpses/skeletons like they did from Age 2 DE?
The big wolf might be Ornlu, a hero wolf that shows up in a lot of age games as an easter egg.
2:17 Arkantos, Amanra and Reginleif. And yeah, it's so cool of them to put Campaign heroes on the _middle_ of that artwork! 😩👌
_By the way, I don't blame you for forgetting Reginleif's name,_ hers was the one I could NEVER get it right when I was a child!
✋️😌👌
I'm not quite sure I like the Colossus new posture/stance. Makes him look a bit _less_ towering than the original. Like, before, it seemed like he was looking *down* on the tiny little enemies in front of him. But I'm just nitpicking! Everything else looks _gorgeous!_ 😍
10:55 Heroic Age. 😉
The list of ages were:
Archaic Age -> Classical Age -> Heroic Age -> Mythic Age
11:48 Oh yeah, they _definitelly_ improved the Nemean Lion's design. No offense to the old one, but the original looked like a metal lion, like it was made out of gold or something. THIS is a proper -and intimidating- lion, my Gods, look at that beefy boi!
_Btw, yeah, that's Chiron. Hades faction doesn't get Hermes, therefore they don't have access to the Centaurs._
14:50 Yeah, the Roc's design definitelly took an improvement.
_But, seriously. *"Antennae"?* You could've said those looked like owl head feathers, my guy. _ 🤣 Don't do my homie like that!
16:25 Petsuchos. And they're *very sacred crocodiles* to the Egyptians. Show some respect, lad. 😉
18:13 *_Bro,_*_ bro,_ bro, BRO, *BROOO!* 😍
_Those Wadjets look absolutelly gorgeous...!_
10/10, totally digging the new design! I understand the "ugly monstrous" aspect they were going gor the original, but this Wadjet REALLY looks like a creature created by a God! _Ahh... so majestic...!_
18:24 I disagree. *This is a massive improvement by comparison, Holy Gods!*
18:46 Actually, that is a Campaign only building, the Pyramid of Osiris.
Holy molly! 🤩
I always loved the Argus, because it always looked like an alien creature more than a mythological one, and 9-year old me loved them just for that!
Seriously! It never made _any sense_ why a creature that big couldn't just walk on the ocean floor and keep its torso up above sea level! Then the attack animations it would use against other Titans? *Use THOSE when attacking ships and monsters on water!*
28:19 Yeah, those are definitelly new units.
*_I don't know if that made sense, sorry._* 😅
29:49 Yeah, that is a totally made-up Scenario.
🤩👍 _Boi, did I miss this glorious bastard._
32:46 The Frost Giants look amazing, and yes, that is either an upgraded Frost Giant, or that is Folstag, the Hero mentioned in the Trident's Fall Campaign and then debutting in the Titans' Campaign.
33:35 _I can't get over the fact they gave Ymir tits._ 😂
All jokes aside, I love the Norse Titan's redesign, specially those "ice horns" or "ice crown" on its head, plus the ice covering the hammer, it definitelly looks better than the ice hammer it used in the original.
By the way loving the Automaton a little down there.
40:08 DAMN! 😳 They got mah boi Loki looking *dripped out as fuck!*
40:49 Poseidon, the jackass. =__= Though I'm not gonna lie, that art of his is looking gorgeous too.
Dude. This was so fun to read. I’m loving your enthusiasm lol. Thanks for all the corrections 😅
Coastal trade a la AOE4 makes a ton of sense to me!
39:07 That's the Counter Barracks, where Atlanteans train Counter-Units. Atlanteans don't have stables.
Correct!
17:57 They were not in the original campaign, they came with the Atlantean DLC.
Werent automotans. For the promethius civ?
You can't tell me ajax had a bear, in my head it was and always will be a snake. Look at it! It's a snake on his head :D
Thanks for educating me!
actually childhood game ... i hope play this soon
Let’s gooo
🤩when will this games to be launched? its a memory for my young age.
Oh my lord the nostalgia!!!!!!
with all these remakes of the Age series, what are the chances to see a new Rise of Nations?
These remakes are cool but the more I watch them the more I want to play the original game/graphics because it brings back authentic experience of times when we were young, carefree and the euphoria of installing and playing the game for the 1st time on your pentium 4. Same goes for Age of Empires, Warcraft 3, Heroes of might and magic.
sadly we cant time travel
wow this game looks good! never played the original but I will give it chance since I love aoe4 so much
Let's hope it has new story and content and it's not just graphic development
Age 3 to this day has the most powerful engine right now.Age 4 looks so bad , compare to Age 3 , especially remastered version.Cant wait for Mythology
I would love to see unique titans for each sub faction in each civ.
16:33
Petsuchos!
Ooooo good point
Scorpion men are called Girtablilu in myths, not Egyptian myths though
16:04 Scorpion men, or girtabilu, are from Mesopotamian mythology.
Interesting! I didn't know it was a thing!
It's not age of mythology 2, but still good.
They really should add china with some nerfed powers, but i would also be hyped if they would add Mayan or Aztec civilization
Imagine what the map editor could do with these assets.
Reginleif and seth is a combination of many animals.
Didn't they also have Chinese in AOM? Where are they
It’s the vibe
THE SOUNDTRACK OMG I FORGOTTTTT
I wonder if they would give a discount to those of us that own AoM Extended. Would kinda be unfair to purchase it 3 times.
Nah it's a different game bro
hope this game will be much more balanced than the extended edition with its chinese Civ
Is this an Arpg?
The wait for this game will be excrutiating. And having so little official updates nearly half way into the year suggests it's still a ways off : (
Some redesigns i dont really like, like odin or gaia but i love they bring aom back ❤
the aoe 3 engine?? *Prostagma??*
That's not a greek temple, that's the campaign temple.
12:03 Yeah they're Gastraphetes.
did we study in the same class? I got into Rome total war around the time I learned Corinthian Pillars. lol
The class of a generation lol
for me the glowing on the hero units is a bit to much, if they could lessen it a bit it would be better, bec it feels a bit to fleshy and the rings are a no go ;D but damn the most units look awsome.
Love AoM, the civ variety is so much more interesting than AoE.
I hope they dont change the camera angle on thus game. Other than that very excited
They should add Indian Mythology in the extension 💫
preordered...850 cc point excellence
Petsuchos are mummified minions in Egyptian myths
Isnt set based off a jackal?
Nope. That’s Anubis. Set is based off of his own animal that might even be mythological.
Odin is missing the wrong eye
Did everyone forgot about Hades lol
He’s in the image but he’s got that invisibility helmet on 😆
Hades is in the underworld with his beloved Persephone and overseeing the souls of the dead.
