very cool just remember folks, its a wood box with a hole cut in it. The rest is all astetics. The fear or laziness of not being able to build such a simple thing is the only reason i can think of as to why speaker kit companies arent more popular. You get like 10 times the performance for your money. Heck, they even ship them with flat packs now so u dont even have to cut the wood! Beautiful boxes
I really appreciate the showing of all the steps AND the tools / materials used. I think you are the first complete overview that did not leave out key materials and helpful tools.
Hey Chris, I try to blend a bit of the actual process in to these. I was always frustrated when a video is a DIY project but they just show the beginning and the end. Thanks for watching today!
Absolutely beautiful! People don't realize because of editing how long and involved this process really is. I restore old shotguns and sometimes I will sand for five hours just to get the surface of the stocks just right.
I really appreciate how your build videos cover a lot of “behind the scenes” details that others tend to skip. What I’ve learned so far is that I need about $2500 worth of tools to build my $250 speakers. 😂
Haha yeah I wanted to show more details, so many channels are like “here is a sheet of veneer, and here is the finished speaker” DIY certainly can get expensive but things can usually be done without the premium options, usually requires a bit more work and time mind you.
Love the design choice and thr pair look awesome! Really appreciate all the tips on each steps too! Watching other diy guides I was convinced I needed to invest in all these fancy tools to get a nice looking finish. Just saved me hundreds of dollars! 🙏
Good to hear this, I wanted to use tools that make it as assessable as possible without too many extra purchases. The router and trim bit would speed things up but can easily be bypassed with a little extra effort.
I appreciate your mentioning the Heat Lock veneer glue. I am going to be doing veneer on my MLTL-6 speakers - my first time doing a veneer - and I really don't want to deal with VOC. This is a reason why I have only been using Baltic birch.
The heat lock adhesive worked well for me, seems to have a good hold. I agree about the VOC free too, I use several products that do have VOC’s but avoid it if I can. Good luck on your project too!
I was VERY impressed with your video series and plan to take on the Criton 1TDX for my DIY. A quick question: Can you recommend a less expensive alternative to the Flex 3401 Polisher to complete the clear coat?
As you noticed there won’t be enough for everything, prioritize the woofer compartment first, cover the crossover and then fill in what you can up top without interfering with the port. Enjoy the build!
Thanks for sharing your tips, I made a mistake on my speakers by using white shellac as a sealer (before I watched your video) and the MDF is still expanding and contracting with humidity. I haven’t painted yet, so I am still in the "find a fix stage :)" Do you have any issues with the sealer that you used? Thanks in advance!
Consider sealing the inside as well if you haven't already, I thankfully have not had any issues with the sealer I used, I used the same process on the 1tdx build I am working on now as well.
I have a white speaker (very glossy white), but look old and have some small dents. I want to repait it to make it look new again. Should I simply apply the this 1k or 2k paint & polish on top of the old paint layer? Do I need do some sanding work to scratch the surface before applying the new paint layer?
For something like this I would always suggest a light sanding before spraying any paint. If there are any dents or damage your looking to address at this point you could fill those first, then sand, then paint.

Nice build. Looking forward to part three.
Thanks Jack! Appreciate the watch

Agreed, it’s amazing how much video I started out with before trimming everything down, like you said finishing work is certainly a long process.

Thanks so much for this series. I'm in the middle of putting my Torii together and you've been both the inspiration and the guide!
Have fun!
I like and appreciate the paint steps.
Glad you enjoyed it

Also looking forward to that part iii review! Thanks for documenting this.
Planning to film it today actually!

Brilliant finish
Amazing ! really nice finish and worth the time spent. May I please ask you the brand/reference of the primer and paint applied ?
Im super surprised you didn't review the finished product!
I am planning on it, just a bit backed up on reviews, playing catch-up at the moment.
Eu fiz uma similar e percebi uma melhora dos graves removendo os revestimentos internos.

Paint job looks awesome!! Great job❤
Thanks Vincent!
What a brilliant video. Thank you again
Thanks again!
Gorgeous work.
Thanks!
I love buying used speakers just to repaint them with automotive products, my final results are always show room condition !
Beautiful work! A little intimidating for me, but that’s how I’d like to do it.
A little challenge makes it fun too.
Better than any video on the CSS site! I'm at the foam stage, does it only go in the bottom woofer space?
As you noticed there won’t be enough for everything, prioritize the woofer compartment first, cover the crossover and then fill in what you can up top without interfering with the port. Enjoy the build!
Thanks Matt!! I did notice there wasn't enough. I'll be doing the final assembly soon.@@MattCoykendall1
Wow you are really talented. I wish I could do that.
Thanks, the speaker build isn’t bad at all, the finishing can be complicated but can also be finished in much simpler ways than I did here.

Looking good!
Thanks Ryan
how to calculate port on that speaker? what lenght and frequency tuning?
Thanks for the video! Are you placing any foam in the top portion with the tweeter?
Yes I am, I had enough for the back wall and the vast majority of the side walls in the top potion.
Nice job!! I'm thinking of doing the CSS Criton DIY kit. Do you have a link to purchase the router bit???? Thx
Thanks! If you check out the description in part 1 I have the links for the router.
@@MattCoykendall1 Thank you

@MattCoykendall1 thankyou for the reply, very helpful. Will try that way.
What's the idea of having the top concave shaped?
Honestly no reason, just wanted to try something different, would I do it again im not sure but it worked out well enough in this case.
What brand of spray booth are you using?

@@MattCoykendall1 thanks
Again, not my style 😅 but great work! 👌
No worries, thanks!
