    Hey! As someone who’s currently a software engineer with a couple years of exp, I feel like there’s lots of videos about getting into the industry, getting your first job etc… But not a lot about things you can self study to advance your career, get promoted or get into a better company! Would love if you did a video with advice for when you’re already in the field :)

    3:16 Software engineering is research. This is how we must describe it to the scientists and the students. So much of science teaching is 'research' centered and software is seen as mere implementation.
    This is a key idea. Thank you for this insight.

    Switching from teaching science to software engineering this September! Always good to see women in STEM, particularly engineering too! A lot of my job as a teacher is encouraging women to get involved in STEM, best teams are always comprised of both men and women! Also, decent squat depth == extra respect!

    Glad TH-cam recommended this video to me. Really awesome stuff and nice tennis playing! One tip would be to make sure to follow through all the way on your forehand and backhand (so let the racket continue and finish across your body instead of stopping right after you make contact). I'm a tennis coach btw.

Even when you're working for a top FANNG company in the UK, you usally will not earn enough to rent or even buy such a property (45,000 - 60,000 Pounds per year before taxes is normal). Guess she has some serious side kicks. Maybe she's just on vacation there using Airbnb.

    Amazing squats, but you get a deduction for how you picked up the bar. Always make sure you have a straight back no matter what you do. It adds up. Oh, I spoke too soon. Watch out for the small butt wink after you added weights. Once you put on the heavier weights it's almost gone, because you don't go down as far. Anyway, it's an easy fix. Just stretch your hamstrings some more and you're good.

    • @errdayvillain
      @errdayvillain 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know your experience but coding requires certain way of thinking. Like mental understanding of algorithms, data structures, etc and being able to imagine these abstract things in your head. After you get into it learning specific language and it's specifics gets easier.
      Regardless of where you start what you might want and try is spending 10-15 minutes a day watching a course. Especially If your are in earlier stages and want to get that "developer mindset". Since the course probably will be less about exercises and more about "thinking". It is important to let your brain soak these concepts often and in short amounts rather once a week but for hours. If you are this stage you might want to give Harward's CS50 course a try. At the end of the day if you find yourself not liking you won't be upset that you've been spending 15 mins a day for a month. You could do that literally while drinking tea\coffee.
      If you already have experience with tech jobs then TH-cam\Udemy is your friend. You might want to just try a course and build things with the teacher and don't commit any deep understanding of what's going on. You just play around with thing and see how it goes. A course on Udemy probably will be a bit more polished\updated\organized experience but TH-cam will still have plenty of gems on any topic\language you are interested.

      @@errdayvillain I am a graduate of a BET in Electronics and Controls and had experience with Arduino coding and VHDL coding in university so I have a slight grasp of it. Obviously want to try it first to get more deep into other sides of programming to see if I like it, but I typically have the mindset of always wanting to learn and figure things out, so coding may actually be good for me to learn!

      @@CSJackie So I work for a company that makes scientific equipment and they’ve had the same code base since like the late 70s. Most of it has been updated and refactored over the years, but there are parts that are ancient and labeled “do not touch”. Most recently I was working on code that was written in the 90s, and its just a mess. No code comments or descriptive variable names; I mean there’s stuff like “thisClass” and “thatClass” lol. The company only recently went agile and I have a strong suspicion that nothing went through any code review lol.
