      yeah running low probably means they still have enough to last a few more months but too low as to start restocking, In these situations "Low" means better get or make more soon rather than "oh no its all gone" especially since they make most of their own hygiene supplies.

      It’s a real thing for us. We keep a rack of curing soap in the top of our closet (my clothes smell amazing). Once it cures, the soaps stay up there until we need them. I noticed we were down to just a couple left this week, it’s going to be soap making weekend!

    The first time i made soap i used coconut oil which came in plastic jars, and ended up cutting my finger a little on a rough part of the jar. Made up my sodium hydroxide solution then took off the gloves to go pee... one tiny drop of solution on my gloves flew through the air and landed on my cut
    I understood the initiation ritual from Fight Club that day

    You should try hot process soap, in a crock pot, you can use it as soon as it hardens. Hot process soap always seems to have more lather to me. I add a bit of beeswax in mine and honey at the end of the cook.

      I do something a bit odd with my soaps. I collect natural handmade soaps that people get me on trips from all over the country and world, and I cut "a weeks use" sized slices off of them to be able to always switch it up and make each bar last more uses. would be interesting to maybe melt a slice of 1 or 2 of my favorite bars and pouring them over loofah slices instead of just using them with the loofah slices. would make me even more of a weirdo with my soap but that's OK 😂

    I love you guys's channel. Just an FYI if you didn't know milkweed is pretty toxic. I know ingesting it can be really bad I'm not sure using it on your skin is safe or not. Just something to check out some flowers smell beautiful but are still unsafe. Absolutely love what you guys do and using deer tallow for everything you guys use it for blows my mind 💕👍

    • @themushroominside6540
      @themushroominside6540 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Injesting Milkweed raw is pretty bad but you can actually cook and eat it since the toxins are not heat stable, cook as you would asparagus and you have a nice vegetable to pai with your main course.
      The flowers when used in tinctures and soap are used medicinally to aid in skincare and provides fragrance to the soap. it is somewhat toxic but it is negligible if you only use it for bathing and not actually eating large quantities of it like any other soap.

    • @MusicalBotany
      @MusicalBotany ปีที่แล้ว

      I figure it's akin to using lily of the valley in perfumes. Convallaria spp. are all deathly toxic, but the trace amounts found in perfume extracts are usually regarded as safe. (Synthetic accords are used in most modern perfumes to produce this fragrance note, but I digress.) Especially because Sylvan fragranced these soaps with a milkweed flower tea, toxic compounds should have been denatured by the heating process. Milky saps also tend to lose their phototoxic and irritating qualities once exposed to oxygen and dried, so the flower inclusions are probably harmless, too-but with anything, discontinue use if you experience irritation! Your skin knows best. :)

    • @snailsoup9751
      @snailsoup9751 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Only part of milkweed is toxic. It's edible for humans as well. Almost everything is a little toxic, you just need to inform yourself.

    Now my main concern with using this type of soap. Would simply be if part of the flowers that are in the soap got stuck up in my creases and crevices of my vagina. I would be concerned about that causing an irritation or infection even if you didn't realize it was there until it's too late. That would be like my major one concern about washing myself with the soap that has the little flower pieces in it.

      @@kellybraun5013around here its regulated like decongestants, unless you go through the process of being a le to buy it in bulk and pay for the hazmat shipping cost. Before you could just grab RedDevil Drain Cleaner (100% lye, no óther additives) right off of the bulk buy centers shelf, and at that time it was a dollar for a container12-16 oz, cant remember the amount. Perfect for a small business (one seller's shoppe, about 50-100 bars a month) and personal use producer.
