Dear TH-cam friends, here are the affiliate links to the plexiglass cubelets and containers that I have purchased for my displays. They are nice and sturdy in my opinion. be careful not to scratch them though since plexiglass is prone to scratches and peel off the protective foil off the surface of the plexiglass before you place them in your vitrine. 🩷 I got one set of containers and one set of cubelets. amzn.to/3xLVbnR

That's a lie. You have websites like Yoox, rue lala, Cettire, etc that sales items for way cheaper. I got a Versace coat from last year for $600 from Cettire and it was going for $1,200 elsewhere so be very smart when looking for whatever piece of clothing it is you are thinking about purchasing. I swear by Cettire and Yoox. I love them! I bought a Dolce and Gabbana sweater I love love love for $280 and the sweater is released again and this time cost $480 so I got lucky and try to catch sales as much as I can! Right now Neiman Marcus is having a good sale on Prada sneakers!

There are some designers that specialize selling everything from clothing to home items, and one walks into their stores and it makes you want to live inside the store. Good for you to curate your own items. ❤

The two things helps. Also, avoid those that are addicting to shopping and click off their channel or unsub.

Overlooked bags? I try to use them and make a deliberate effort to sort out colours in my wardrobe, fix clothes that need adjustment, and find any gaps in what I need. It could be a white shirt or a pair of jeans, or a particular colour sweater etc etc.
Then I have a shopping list which I stick to religiously unless I find another way around it.
As a first call I shop the sales and preloved to fill the gaps.
If all his doesn't work, then I give them away. I was going to sell my own bags but find gifting much more satisfying than I expected. That way I show the recipient all the features and how to take care of it.
This gives an endorphin rush every bit as good as finding a bargain/buying the dream bag/getting something unusual. The other rush is from fixing/colour changing/restoring a vintage bag.
I love all of this creativity and appreciating, and especially finding and reworking my own stuff or what others have overlooked.
This has been my MO for many years.

I kind of did the same thing for online shopping. I digitally catalogued my entire wardrobe. And when I want to browse, I browse my own wardrobe and put outfits together. Also when I’m tempted to buy eg a pink top, I look up my wardrobe, see I already have 3 pink tops, and I don’t buy it. The display is a great idea. You are NOT crazy. (Or maybe we’re all crazy!). I find it very hard to resist our consumerist culture too.

The past 2 years i spent the first 6 months of the year on a strict fashion-no-buy (new or pre-loved) and it has been absolutely eye opening.
The rest of the year I allow myself a low-buy but i also keep track of everything via a spreadsheet. Total everything up at the end of the year so I can visually see what I bought for accountability.
It's been a great way to curb the consumerism but also to see what I actually use, want, or don't ever need to buy again.

I limit how many of any one type of item (bucket bags, totes, etc). I have a one in one out system to handle the clutter. But we plan to make over our living room. I was dreading it. You are right-on about viewing your wardrobe and accessories because when they are organized and displayed it is as if you created your own boutique. If you bought it and love it, your closet is basically curated. Once you display all your garments and bits and bobs you can identify things you no longer want to find a new home, and really start to enjoy and wear your items more. Thank you so much for sharing this. I think it's very important to understand the psychology behind why we spend. The idea that it's not so much the objects, but how they are styled is so interesting and it can be replicated. Lightbulb moment!

Definitely fall into the trap with Hermes scarves . They look soooooo pretty, colourful in the store hang up, but once you bring it home, it’s a different story 😅

I got some simple glass vitrines on Marketplace (originally from Ikea but discontinued style), and I got plexiglass stands and I displayed my SLGs, bags, perfumes, Hermes lippies and silk scarves. It makes me so happy. I love coming in here and feeling like I am in a shop. It is amazing and brings me such peace and excitement at the same time! I did it also as a nice background for YT. But it does help to see my pieces in such a pretty way. Loved this video and conversation Dacob! 🫶🏼

I have a monthly budget for fun stuff, but over the years the income is going up but the budget is pretty much the same to stop lifestyle inflation. Our wants always exceed our need and actual pay increase, I feel motivated and saving toward future freedom. we can all do it!

Hehehehe, I asked my husband what he thought about me doing this, and he said, "try anything, if it helps". My wardrobe has so much stuff in it that I have no idea what's there. And where I store my handbags is in even worse shape. Thank you for this idea. We have never met, I am an older female, with short hair, but you and the bunker fam seem to understand me! 😆🤣 NanZ

Hi, I met you on Romina Rose May's video. Your video is one of the beat I have seen. You are exactly right, I should as I have over 40 years experience in retail and merchandising. There is millions of dollars spent on retail research aimed at making products enticing, tricks of the trade including the most effective places in the shops to sell the most expensive items eg perfumes are always in the doorway of department stores. Congratulations for your insight. ❤ from Australia

I had this, I bought a keepall last year with my Initials round it, had the interior colour to one I wanted etc and when I picked it up I had a glass of Champagne and it was a nice shopping experience, but ive used it once... Its now in the box in the corner of my room with dust on the box and it actually looks so sad aha... The great thing about about pre loved is you aren't ever afraid to use it.

I agree, I did this with my bags, I don't have a glass display yet (that's the next step) but I do have a display with each bag in their own cubby. It reminds me everytime I get an inch for a new bag to look at what I already have and in my mind I go over the massive amount of money I spent on the bags in my collection. It helps me to determine if I really need that new bag.

Buying second hand or vintage usually is my "buying new items". This can get fairly tricky as it often feels like the purchase doesn't count, because a) it didn't cost much and b) it is not new. Still it is new to me and I am trying hard to reign in overconsumption.
I lately started over, left my old life and a toxic relationship and moved across the country. In this process I was forced to address all my belongings, chose well what I could take and what not. It was painful to see my huge collection of vintage clothes and bags, going through it, trying everything on and assessing the condition. In the end I left about two thirds behind and if felt liberating.
There definetely was too much, there were random pieces bought to cover for being unhappy and there were wonderful pieces, that had been stored away for far too long for " further reference" and " special occasions" that had gone bad or didn't fit anymore ( absolutely no chance to alter).
So here am I with only the good things trying to use and cherish what I already collected.
Still there are moments I feel bereft of my huge collection, long for certain pieces until I remember they actually were in a vad condition, random or had bad karma and were left behind intentionally...
In moments like this the urge to shop is bad. I caved in the other week and bought a vintage Dior clutch I wasn't totally sure of only to buy something to be valid. It arrived and I knew: bad choice! Luckily I was able to return it and I did. A piece already in my wardrobe was much better for the purpose!
    The struggle is real....

I’ve cut down buying perfumes because most of the ones I’ve purchased I rarely wear nor reach to. Now I only buy what I know I’ll wear regularly and buy back up to stock up. Now I just pretty much buy essentials and some clothes in need. I do occasionally treat myself to something a jewelry and haircare products and gardening. 👩🏻‍🌾 That’s it. I’m content. But if I want to splurge, I wait until my birthday and Christmas. Those are splurge worthy for once a year type of thing.

I think it is far too extreme to just suddenly get rid of all our luxury , I do think there is a point where it becomes overwelmning , with items sat on a shelf or gathering dust in the storage cupboard! I think it's also better to STREAMLINE your collection to your best peices , items that you will actually use AND ENJOY moving forward ! 😎🙏❤️

I was not conscious about the healing power, but about 1 year ago I made a nice display for my luxury bags in my work room - this is on the one hand a pleasure to the eye and on the other hand a warning: do I want to trade my hard earned money to another bag when I already own these beauties?? 😊❤

I am very guilty of buying and then not using. I know it’s bad. It’s not that I don’t love the item it’s just sometimes that I want it to stay pristine. I don’t know why I do that but I do. And there’s a lot of things in my closet with tags still on them and in pretty little boxes…and handbags in dust bags that don’t really see the light of day…even spilling into my 2 guest room closets..oof this video made me realize my husbands right …words wife’s never want to speak.

im now on month 7 of no spending on clothes, shoes, bags, or anything that's not food. even things for the house. i will admit this no-buy year was a let's be real moment, as I lost my job in Jan 2024. so if I wanted my money to last at least a year while I look for a new job I had to make the conscious decision to stop buying everything.

This is such an amazing idea. I'm always debating between seeing my bags or keeping them inside their dustbags inside the closet. Sometimes I put them all on the table in front of the couch just so I can see them while I work. It's really funny 😂. I have like 8 bags so it doesn't look that ridiculous. 🤣

This reminds me a bit of gamification. It's what Google Maps use to motivate users to provide pictures, reviews, edits and facts to the map. Also, I made a frame with photos of all my bags years ago to provide a visual overview of what I have so nothing gets forgotten. If you don't have the space for the vitrine, that might help a little.

What I do is that I leave the items I buy and have not used yet outside the wardrobes in the bedroom. Until a lot of time passes and then I put them in the wardrobes. I hate buying items which I never use and I try to be very careful with my purchases but unfortunately I still buy items which I never use.

I did this with luxury bags around 10 years ago or longer. I called it a 'bag diet' and it lasted for years extending high end shoes and accessories. When the pandemic hit I was glad because all my stuff was just dead money doing nothing when we couldn't go out. I would've felt worse if not for limiting myself. I like a bargain so I probablu could not do a full no buy. I did cut back to what I needed and made sure I got rid of something if I was bringing home something new.
