Why use the Mixolydian scale? Short answer: Because it creates dominant 7th chords, which are the strongest drivers for the circle of fifths (COF). Longer answer: The COF creates downward motion by fifths (or upward by fourths). For example, G -> C. The strongest resolution occurs if dominant seventh chords are used; that is, if you play a G7 -> C (here C stands for a simple C major chord). If you have a sequence of such motions, say A -> D -> G -> C, then the strongest resolutions would occur if you were to play A7 -> D7 -> G7 -> C. What are dominant seventh chords built on? Mixolydian scales! For example, if you take the C Mixolydian, C D E F G A Bb C, and play degrees 1 3 5 7, you get a C7 chord, comprised of the notes C, E, G, Bb. So by getting used to these Mixolydian scales you are getting used to moving shapes on the scale the generates the "strongest" type of motion. Hope this clarifies this point which might not be clear enough in the video.

I'm hearing the 'rustling' of the keys as you play. If this isn't intentional, you might want to look at mike positioning or filters. #FeedTheAlgorithm
You can certainly just memorize the exercise without memorizing the scales (that's a lot easier because you just need to transpose stuff in fifths). In fact, it's designed to work that way: You can mindlessly replicate the exercise and it will help you think and visualize all those scales!

Good question. I've written and pinned a comment explaining this in greater detail.

Thanks! It's just laziness cutting them out, coupled with a crappy editing software :)
Cmon now. Not easy AT ALL! Remembering all these Scales. Your PRESUMING We're all Versed in these Scales. 👎
Please whine just a little bit harder. Where does it say it's easy??? And it's YOU'RE.
