Hi Jake, don't know how your AT is set up but my 2018 Adv Sport has an accessory plug behind the dash for gadgets like this. I've just bought a very similar unit, supplied by Naviplay. So far it all looks good as you say.
The Chigee is a lot more feature packed as compared to this. If you’re like me, you don’t need it to be connected to your camera and tpms, don’t need reverse camera and guide etc and only need the CarPlay/AndroidAuto function, this would be perfect for you!
Sorry for the noob questions, never used CarPlay but looking into it: 1. Can the screen of the phone be locked when in use? Or have to keep it on? 2. Does it tether to the phone via personal hotspot or is it more of like a screencast thing where there's no need to hotspot? (Asking cos Singtel is fugging up my hotspot) 3. Read online that Carplay kind of messes with notifications on Apple Watch, have you experienced that?
No worries man! 1. Your screen can be off. 2. It’s more like a screen casting situation. 3. I can’t say as I don’t use an Apple Watch, and for me I setup my focus mode to switch to driving which mutes all my notifications when I’m driving except calls. But your notifications without focus mode on still show up on the CarPlay device, as well as your Notification Centre. Hope this clears it up!
I have this unit. I is called the MAXCA C5 PRO. I got it for 119.00 on Aliexpress a few years ago. Nice for short rides but the downside is that your phone uses up the battery life and has no way of being charged since it isn't on the bike.
I bricked my C5 ( all black when turning on ) then asked Ottocast their original fw and it started working again, but even if I put the logo.jpg ( 1024x768 ) in the sd root with the fw it flashes the fw but won’t change the boot image.
Hey man! From our research, it depends on the FW already flashed onto the C5. Some firmware, especially updated ones, might no longer support changing of the boot image, and trying to flash would end up bricking the device!
It uses a standard ram mount system, and would be able to have fittings to mount onto the mirror mounts for example. You might have to get some parts for that if the included mounting doesn't fit your bike, but it's definitely do-able.
Devices like this tether to your phone, so chances are if your phone has no connection, even with a sim card in the device, you'd also probably have no reception. If that's a possible fear, getting a dedicated GPS unit that communicates with GPS satellites would be a better option.

We actually tried out the Zumo XT! For day to day city riding and mostly inter city touring, it’s a little too inconvenient. Where we found it really shines is in route planning for longer trips, which isn’t what I need at the moment! -Jake

Actually don’t need to, as the wiring is just a positive and a ground for the USB. If you already have an underwear usb you can connect the connector to it easily!
I'm gonna be using my old Xiaomi k20 pro with headunit reloaded and a magnetic usb cable to have a cheap 6,4" Android auto head unit and the cheap quadlock fake you tested on your channel. Cba to spend any more money on accessories lmao
You definitely can find cheaper options from OEM, however there is a range of firmware available, and not all sellers would provide the latest updated firmware, as well as provide return support. Might not matter to you if you’re more tech saavy!

What I’ve found that’s good is that now during rainy conditions, my phone can continue to charge in a waterproof case out of the weather!
I'll be changing new bike so I'd rather have the chigee. Great reviews tho
