i stayed 14 up in the balgrayhill rd flats...dont miss the place...14 years ago we moved out but now im back at springburn college and its no changed...my dad, mick, worked in the caley as a turner, he stayed in erm memol st or however ye spell it lol got pulled down years ago anyway...great vid
I was born and brought up in Kay Street great wee street and neighbour's swimming baths and steamie was there. So sad there is nothing left. I and my sisters went to Elmvale school and then Albert Senior Secondary. Great place to grow up. Mary T.
This is certainly NOT the Burgh I was born in grew up. Schooled and left Its a completely ghost town to me now. Its as if I've NEVER entered this place in my whole life. Such a pitiful place now, to what it once was. The flyover in Springburn Road does absolutely nothing for the Burgh . The place was once bursting with shops excitement and happiness. Now it looks like a sad place, certainly NOT the little Burgh I was born and raised in all those years ago. All the memories of my birthplace have now disappeared since my dear hometown had changed its welcoming feeling. We all.go back once in a lifetime to.see our place of birth. Well!! its certainly a different place for me.
brilliant video , ive lived in springburn the past 25 years , angus St , place is way better that a lot of people say it is , forget the buildings its the folk that make this place so good
Springburn used to be really busy during the 70’s everybody went there for their messages woolworths city bakery’s the new yorker chippy kay street swimming baths go for a haircut at Geoffrey n joes go to the toy shop next woolies play in the swing park the smell a teachers whisky bond the fountain thats ootside the shopping centre used tae be next tae the vulcan bar at the underground toilets at springburn cross where the co op used tae be but its a shitehole noo shopping centres dead mostly fulla junkies n alky’s should tear that centre doon once aw the shops sterted getting demolished it just tore the heart oota auld springburn
stuart rusk:- that’s exactly how I remember it, before the shopping centre was built there used to be a bike shop on the corner of wellfield and (the auld)springburn Road. Grew up in barmulloch, but went to the old Albert secondary an spent many a dinner time at santi’s chippy, and the auld springburn cross in Woolworths . I left 30yr ago, an ive only returned a few times since, and aye it’s changed to unrecognisable in places .
Albert Primary :) I went there 1974-79. Now all shops are gone, demolished, where the statue is now. I used to buy my crisps there, 4 1/2p or 5p each. Cameron's I think the shop was called and a there was a Woolworths. They sold toys in Cameron's, a plastic boat for 50p. I went to my Ganny's up on Balgrayhill high flats after school and Grandad would drive me down in his taxi and my mum met me there after work, she worked in Teachers whiskey for 15 years! That's gone as well. Boo HOo HOoo....
His mother stayed in petershill road ,came into Joe's Cafe and let everyone know who her son was ,he would visit her in a white porche 924 had a chauffeur as he was done for drunk driving if I'm correct .
@@paulbain7711 maybe that's were he was brougt up,his mum stayed in petershill road opposite Petershill motors/J C Bennits and auto electrical services, I remember as if it was yesterday, she would come into Joe's all dressed up just after 12 o'clock when I as an apprentice mechanic was waiting with other apprentices for the guys rolls and eggs cigarettes etc.
@@TheFergie23 I grew up in Springburn (42 Millarbank Street) in the 1950s. It was never the best of times (including the incessant paedophilia and heavy domestic violence et al.). Ah Springburn the only place in the world the birds fly inside down because there's fuck all worth shiteing on Is it true that there's one washing machine to service the whole community and the library just dishes out Johnny bags and unemployment claiming advice ?
