hi i'm not used to playing along but want to start trying to see how it goes . Are those the right chords to use for an alto sax or do i need to transpose them intto another key or something ? Really appreciate any replies . Just a novice trying to get along .
I just got into Jazz 1 (Trumpet) and Jazz 2 (Trombone) my freshmen year of high school, and this has been a major help so far with the blues scale, improvising, and solos. This video is amazing!!!
This is the best track ever!!! What a great mix of jazz and blues and such a perfect tempo for those of us who aren't quite that fast! Love it - thanks!
Thanks a lot! My band teacher uses this for our B flat major blues scale. We were having a blues conversation with our instruments, each taking turns for 4 measures improvising with this track. It was fun.
Just for fun try playing G blues down a minor third.. I do Georgia on my mind jazz version in F maj. Playing around in D blues sounds great. I especially like playing it over the Bb7 four dominant chord. I don't know how it will sound.
For jazz band auditions, our director makes us improv to this track (I play clarinet) I find it really fun sometimes as long as I don't mess up (he gives us a specific scale to use)
thank you thank you thank you so so much. i have a 24 bar improv solo in band coming up and this helped me so much. I cannot thank you enough. Love this! Thanks for posting.
same on piano, ive been playing for 4 years but tonight i discovered this video wanting to look more into backing tracks and i had fun like crazy! I'm slowly getting passionate about jazz and blues
This is such a wonderful track, I use it all the time. If I were to make one suggestion I would change it up a little near the end so it isn't super repetitive. Other than I love it! Can't believe you only 157k subscribers, you deserve more.
I was playing along on the chords on the piano... Enjoyed improv on piano and it was fun on guitar. I forgot that the % sign was a good review..I am going to review the video.
This is excellent. Did this a number of times..sounded better almost every time ..I am exploring scales over it ..I like to throw a little blues in the improv, but lightly sprinkle it in the tune.. I suspect the Dom dimminished scale has a place some where in this..I want to check it out for sub chords. The quality is great. BTW guitar player also.
I have a question for anyone. So I found the Bflat Dorian scale to fit, and not the Bflat major. It definitely doesn't sound like an Aflat major tune because of the root tone but it still falls on that scale. I guess I don't understand how something could use two different scales but be in the same key. I'm probably missing something but would it be more accurate to say this is in Bflat Dorian or is that extenuous?
It's a good question, and a very common on. I have a video about it but it's in french : th-cam.com/video/LFGRE2eBb8g/w-d-xo.html Here's my anwser : the key chord here is Bb7, not Ab, hence all the notes you play sound relatively to this Bb7 (Ab sounds like a m7 and Bb like a root). Thinking "the Ab major scale" doesn't help you memorizing the feeling (or "role") that each note will have, but thinking everything relatively to Bb (the Bb dorian mode) will help you. So you have to learn this dorian mode like if it's a new scale, and memorise the interval and sound of each note. For this topic, the theory that you know doesn't help you because you think about "the major scale this mode comes from" and this is something you want to slightly get away from :-) I hope this helps
Just started jazz last week. I thought “yo all the other kids are doing improv why not try?” I picked b flat blues scale. Pulled this up. Just played. And it was the most fun I’ve had in such a long time with music. Insane
Did a video with this and few other of your tracks. Really like the quality. I will have some up tonight. I definitely am keeping this link and plan to share it with my jazz and blues afficionados.
John 1st..Thx for the request. I have many blues videos. Some I play piano over backing tracks, some are guitar over the result. Just put another one up. I realistically have done 50 or so blues videos..Some are primarily teaching exercises. Also I have play along blues videos.. they usually started as Backing tracks.I'm pretty happy with most. I am working on putting up a sampler.. All my stuff ain't gems. Not a pro..but have always enjoyed playing and teaching..
@@johnosullivan6620 John I think I used this backing track on piano and possibly guitar. Ill check.. if not I can do another..Ill try to do a little teaching. I think I have it already. Ill try to send you a link.
As an alto saxophone player, this track is awesome. I love improvising to it.
Brandon Cox just curious have you tried G blues over it. Also not a horn player..is G blues hard to play on a trumpet?
@@PIANOSTYLE100 it can be challenging but no it's not super hard

Woah 😮, Congrats dude, that’s great🎉
tenor here!!! love improvising over this, much more pleasing than hearing my trombone section blare my ears out in jazz!!!
Incredibly relatable, fellow tenor, sit in front of Trombones, they're all not very good and out of tune and just pain

This probably is the wrong place to ask but HOW DO YOU EVEN DO IMPROV 😭
use a scale and play different notes on it
Learn a Major or Pentatonic scale and mess around with the different notes
Use the chord tones of each chord as reference let your ears guide you. Start in .50x speed
just get the feel of the background and let your ears do the talking through your instrument
Essence of improv is to put yourself on a stage and show everyone your musical domain and interpretation
Way to go... thanks man that is just perfect 🤠
I love this stuff. I'm in a middle school jazz band and this is really helpful for my soloing skills. THANK YOU!
