I love this album, I'm very pleased that Kerry livgren got RJD to do these tracks. Too bad there weren't more to follow. Dio was my personal favorite all around vocalist. An amazing talent.
Everyone is talking about Ronnie who had a great voice but we should give Kerry his props, for composing this song and his spiritual awakening which is the theme of Seeds of Change. He truly is living for his King.
I'll give him his props for his great music. But what is his "spiritual awakening" other than pure egoism. Just because he wanted to be side by side when he dies, with his God, he left all friends behind. To me religion is the highest level of egoism. And even if his God exists, does he really want his followers to give up normal life and worship him all his life? Why should an intelligent being, if not the most intelligent of all, want such a stupid thing?
I’m so glad Dio accepted the Lord Jesus before he died. I got to meet Ronnie at a club in San Pedro California. The night after our band played there. He saw me sing and play bass. He told me to stop playing bass and sing. That’s where your true talent lyes. Of course I kept playing and singing because I love to play and sing My favorite musician Geddy Lee. But God Bless Dio.

This was well sung by Dio, but it was Livgren who wrote the song that he rocked. Read the book for the rest. In 1980 Kerry Livgren released his first solo work, Seeds of Change, featuring vocalists Ronnie James Dio and David Pack of Ambrosia, drummer Barriemore Barlow, and guest spots by friends from Kansas. Also accompanying the album was Kerry's book of the same name. Together, they expressed the passage and resolution of Kerry's spiritual journey, often the subject of his songs with Kansas.
Dio's voice is so intoxicating, so mesmerizing, so captivating, so beautiful, so powerful, so Devin, so undeniably great, he sang with passion, with conviction, when he lent his voice to a song, he did not just sing it, instead he delivered it to us all, to all who were looking to take a journey as we let his voice take hold of us and guide us on that journey, each one receiving that intoxicating voice in his or her own way.😌
How many of you actually met and talked with Ronnie? Watched him play with his kids... Unless you have done that, Shut Up. You didn't know the man. One of sweetest people I've ever meet. And of course, breathtaking singing ability. He thought the Satanist Label was funny. That's why he called his Horned Character Murray. There is no power in your command to “shut up” directed at people who didn’t know Dio personally but had a connection to him thru his work. “Pure art and music were the path to higher existence” this statement would make Ronnie sad that is for sure. Ronnie like all of us, heard the gospel and knew without the power of the gospel he was departed from God, the one TRUE, LORD GOD. It was nothing to do with “pure art and music” it was the word of the Lord that convicted him to repent of his ways, believe in Jesus and as this song clearly lays it out - to LIVE a for the KING. It is written that when one person repents and turns to the Lord, All the HOST’ of Heaven REJOICE , that is how life changing Jesus IS. He is the only way to the father. Before Ronnie came to the Lord do you know what God said about the condition of the human heart ? God says that the human heart is Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (KJV) The Hebrew word translated “desperately wicked” has the idea of a terminal, incurable illness. God revealed this to Ronnie That is why Ronnie was able to sing this song from his “circumcised heart, his spiritual heart with power and TRUTH. No matter how close you were to Ronnie - one day you will stand before the Lord and Ronnie will not be there, no one will but you and God - don’t let another day pass, do what Ronnie did Let go of it all - confess to the Lord of your sins and accept his forgiveness and follow Jesus. This is all that matters - to live with the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
There was a lot of spiritual searching and experimenting going on (just read both Livgren and Dio's lyrics.... both deal heavily with spiritual matters - the same for Geezer Butler who was the primary lyricist for Black Sabbath prior to Dio's joining, and Bob Daisley, who was in Rainbow with Dio prior to joining and writing lyrics and songs for, Ozzy Osbourne after he left Black Sabbath.) So Kerry Livgren most likely was dabbling in things that could be called "Black Magic", just as tons of other people were. Dio was a very spiritual man. At one point, during the years in Rainbow, he met a demon, and it changed him in a very radical way (his moment of understanding that Jesus is the only light) ...right around the time he did this song. 😊
It was sheer genius getting Ronnie to sing this. Nobody could possibly have done this great amazing song so much justice! Kind of weak on the visuals, but the song still stands. And ROCKS! And the King RULES!
Kerry had said that when he was writing this song that he had Dio in mind from the start, he also said he had envisioned how he would sing it, and he sung it just as he had envisioned, he considered no one else
I had backstage since fiancee worked with radio. It was fairly shortly after this album. I said I loved him on Seeds of Change album. How was it working on a Christian album. He kinda grinned and said. Yea. Was a little different
Kerry admired Ronnie as a vocalist and wanted the best musicians for this project, there's an interview w/Kerry on one version of this cd, which I happen to have.
@MrCamelneck Kerry Livgren is a hard-core Christian. When he wrote this song it was about living for God. When he contemplated who would sing, he found the most "evil singer' he could thik of in music, which at the time was Dio. RJD did not know the meaning of the song until after it was released in1976.
And to think that RJD, the singer of Black Sabbath, was unknowingly singing a Christian song. He found out later but didn't mind. He said that Livgren never pushed his conversion on anyone, but he did tell his testimony to Dio. Livgren feels that the two songs RJD sang did affect him in a spiritual way though. FYI: What's funny is that Steve Walsh sings backup on this cut.
Not sure about Ronnie but Kerry was really into world religions and had somewhat of a spiritual awakening in the late '70s. He was reading a book called The Urantia which covered spiritual, physical and philosophical views. He ultimately rejected these teachings which were more like a cult and in the early '80s accepted Christianity as the one true religion. You can read about it in his book published in 1980 called Seeds of Change....
I've tried to look thru all the comments, but still have no idea what the source was for this particular recording. Obviously not from the Seeds of Change album, but where? A demo?
6000cs This song was re-recorded with new guitars and production for Kerry Livgren's Best Of album released in 2002. you can order this album on Numavox.com
The truth speaks for itself, it's like a lion, you don't stand and defend it, you get out of its way. Time is short, it isn't about religiosity, it's about the condition of your heart. Not how many times you've said hail Mary, or even done good deeds. "For I am the way, the truth and the life....and no one gets to the father but through me." -Jesus Christ it's simple, renounce hate, renounce unforgiveness, and accept Jesus Christ into your heart, repent, turn from sin, love your neighbor, and that my friends will be the beginning of miraculous change, peace and joy and you'll find yourself in the greatest relationship ever. We can only hope Dio took the correct path to the father. We'll all find out one day soon, and if you haven't taken the correct path yourself by then, it's too late.
Kerry spent time with dio,i'm sure Kerry told him the path and how to reach it,but you are right god deals in hearts, always has,he that believeth in me,even though he be dead, yet shall he live, power,he has all power under heaven,i'm sure dio was prepared, kerry told him the truth, death is but a door to the result
Such a beautiful song. Fundamentalists were accusing bands like Dio of being "satanists" when he was in fact recording on Christian records. This is one of his best tracks if you ask me.
omg powerful! what con cert was this? i never knew they played together if only one song i am big fans of both-r.i.p ronnie. fave band is kansas -seen them 3 times and rainbow and dio a few times as well

Could you please provide me with a link to that interview? Thanks. I have been hoping with all my heart that Ronnie James Dio is in glory now, and that I will get to see him one day.
Great guitar work on this version. Kerry is a genius and Dio was at one time the best rock vocalist (from Elf through Sabbath - I didn't like his solo stuff).
I hate how some people hate religion, and hate those that believe in them. Those people are idiots, because it's no better than hating Dio because he was atheist. All I can say is I believe in God and Jesus, AND praise Dio as the God of my music. Let's leave music and religion seperate, and pray to one God for religion, and praise the other for kickass music ^_^
This has been recorded at the same time when the other version. Just different take. Ronnie never worked on that song again after 79. That been confirmed fact.

And no one can deny that it's real
And when you hear the call come crashing through the wall
You just can't doubt the things that you feel
So lift me up, the time has come to sing
And give up everything

So lift me up, the time has come, we'll sing
And give up everything
To live for the king, oh

(Living for the king) Something greater than you and I is the king

wot an awesome song RIP ronnie james rio this song may have got him n 2 heaven
@MrCamelneck Kerry Livgren is a hard-core Christian. When he wrote this song it was about living for God. When he contemplated who would sing, he found the most "evil singer' he could thik of in music, which at the time was Dio. RJD did not know the meaning of the song until after it was released in1976.
the song was recorded in 1979 en the album was released in 1980
he is great human being .
Apparently the first time he sang the truth about Satan when he joined up with Kerry Livgren.
Ronnie was my favorite singer
Как я тебя люблю, ты мой БОГ, ты был совершенный человек на этой грешной земле. Ты РЫЦАРЬ, без страха и упрека.
We are so full of crap...Jesus let it go on the cross...every drop spilled was for us.
Ronald James Padavona R.í.P 🎶🎤🙏👊
Kerry livigren "long live"Cheers🍻😎👊
This is when he was about to sign with Black Sabbath....God's so cool
If you get RJD, you understand why this is so wonderful. Definitely miss him.
Fucking magic
I've tried to look thru all the comments, but still have no idea what the source was for this particular recording. Obviously not from the Seeds of Change album, but where? A demo?
+6000cs Did you look under Kerry Livgrens music?
+6000cs The source is a double CD called Kerry Livgren Decade. I found it at a yard sale 4 years ago.
Kerry Livgren Mask of the great deciever.
"For I am the way, the truth and the life....and no one gets to the father but through me." -Jesus Christ
it's simple, renounce hate, renounce unforgiveness, and accept Jesus Christ into your heart, repent, turn from sin, love your neighbor, and that my friends will be the beginning of miraculous change, peace and joy and you'll find yourself in the greatest relationship ever. We can only hope Dio took the correct path to the father. We'll all find out one day soon, and if you haven't taken the correct path yourself by then, it's too late.
Indeed.
Hopefully he is singing with the angels and complimenting them
Such a beautiful song. Fundamentalists were accusing bands like Dio of being "satanists" when he was in fact recording on Christian records. This is one of his best tracks if you ask me.
@promiskept Thank you for this information.
omg powerful! what con cert was this? i never knew they played together if only one song i am big fans of both-r.i.p ronnie. fave band is kansas -seen them 3 times and rainbow and dio a few times as well
Dio sings another song for Kerry Livgreen, it's called The Mask Of The Great Deceiver
R I P Ronnie James Dio:( i will never 4get u
Kill the King, Temple of the King, Live for The King, how Dio liked that medieval subject.
Only great...AWESOME...\m/DIO\m/
Interesting! Have you got a link to this interview?
Somebody should upload Whiskey seed. I wish I still had it I'd do it myself
Please can someone tell me some more information about this version?
What happened to the other version of this song?
This version is great also. Dio awesome! Always wondered why Kerry Livgren had him on the Album? Meaning Kerry's religious views. Some one tell me please?
He did not have Dio on the album, he had his voice, that's all that mattered to him
Гений!!!Много сделал.....рано ушел...
We are never forget Ronnie James Dio.
Could you please provide me with a link to that interview? Thanks. I have been hoping with all my heart that Ronnie James Dio is in glory now, and that I will get to see him one day.
Great guitar work on this version. Kerry is a genius and Dio was at one time the best rock vocalist (from Elf through Sabbath - I didn't like his solo stuff).
one4dixie. also pre-elf. . Ronnie and the prophets
DON'T FEEL BAD, HE DIED ON MY BIRTHDAY MAY 16TH, BUT HIS AWESOME MUSIC LIVES ON! RIP RONNIE, ...
FOAD
tingles!
Dio singing a Christian song written by Kerry Livgren of Kansas! Cool!
This has been recorded at the same time when the other version. Just different take. Ronnie never worked on that song again after 79. That been confirmed fact.
dude can you upload the first version?
Kerry and RJD should of done a full double album!
@jackstroem1324 please get your information correctly. RJD always professed he was agnostic...
it was recorded before Ronnie joined sabbath in 1980, so its much older than the last 10 years
