The JB4 comes preset to map1 which is fairly conservative.
JB4 Map Guide:
Map0: Fully disable JB4
Map1: +3.5psi peak over stock, default map, suitable for all fuels.
Map2: +3.5psi peak, less top end taper, more aggressive version of map1.
Map3: +4psi peak, suggested for 93 octane and/or modified vehicles
Map4: Low boost VALET map
Map5: +6psi peak, suggested for 30% E85 mixtures and/or unleaded race fuel
Map6: User adjustable by RPM map on user adjustment page, values are peak boost over stock by RPM under heavy throttle.
Map7: +7psi peak, experimental map for unleaded race fuel. Factory fuel system likely can't keep up with this map on E30.

Sorry you got a lemon. There are a few in every batch. But don't hold the reliability of a few cars tarnish your view of the brand as a whole. Mine is a gem. It has been flawlessly reliable the whole time I've owned it. If you got yours second hand, the lack of reliability could have been due to how it was maintained by the previous owner.
Why is that?
@@bigpapa247 The previous owner may have not been timely with oil changes, used wrong oil type, or not maintained proper fluid levels, or even may have abused it. Garaging it for long periods of time can also be harmful. Seals dryup and crack, fluids get old and loose effectivness. How the previous owner treated the car has a large impact on its reliability in the future. Some people just dont care.

@@acasphalt No. I cleaned the Air Filters yesterday. I may do a test drive today off camera so I know what to expect when I do it on camera.
@@JamesDIYGarage we hooked everything up and we can't get it to connect to the phone, JB4 thinks its a unit issue, they are sending me another one

Good vid! Thinking about doing this to my stock 14 SQ4 with map 2, but I'm concerned about the long-term reliability.
I have been assured by Burger Motor Sport that the JB4 device itself will not impact long term reliability. Having said that I read in the N54 forums that pushing the car to it's limits can reveal problems that existed before you installed the device. So far I my car has not revealed any issues. I have been driving and just doing a pull here and there. I have not completed my testing though. As soon as I do I will do a video and post numbers and graphs.

Have you thought about doing the Madness Auto Flash for the tcm? I wonder how much better your car would be with it. Torque limits removed faster shifts.they say it will work with any piggyback.

The maps have changed with updates. I keep my JB4 updated. Now Map 0 is factory, Map 1 is for 91 Octane, map 2 is for 93 octane. I think 4 is valet and 5 is for race fuel, and 6 is configurable. I only use map1 since all I can get at the pump is 91 octane. There is more exhaust popping in map1 than in map0 when I shift from 1st to 2nd and then to 3rd. But if you want extreme popping, get a custom tune.

Yes, there is a noticable gain. Recommended.
How long did that back connector take you to get off and the new one on approximately?
haha, abut 30 minutes. In hindsight, it would have been easier if I removed the windshield water tray and the strut tower support beam 1st. Maybe take the same amount of time, but a lot less frustration.
Perfect install. THanks for the tips I used a U hook and was able to remove it and used my 7 yr old and his fingers to pull the plug LOL . Updated the APP and its NICE in level 2. We have 93 here in NY and it WAKES up this puppy. I have a Grandsport 18 and in Sport the exhaust does loose a little tone at 6500. I find the exhaust 3500 makes a amazing sound. So, James thank you for the video. One thing they dont do is label the connectors, your video showed me which to use (it's kinda obvious) but I wanted to be double sure.

Thanks for the offer. This is my daily driver. Can't afford to leave it in an undrivable condition waiting for the ECU to come back. The JB4 is good enough for now.

So I just got done installing everything made sure everything was plugged in right . As I opened up the app n tried connecting , but no device found I even get close to the Bluetooth n still nothing , what do u suggest I do ?

I actually got it to work , one of the connection was loose , n I must say you definitely can feel the difference on map 2

Hey James I’m thinking about buying a 2014 Maserati ghibli sq4 with 31,000 miles, do you recommend getting a warranty for the engine, power train and axels and a little electrical components but it’s 3k. The car has always been serviced at Maserati and well kept in Florida.
Get a Prepurchase Inspection at an independent European auto shop that does Maserati cars. If you are not mechanically inclined and do not work on cars, yes get a warranty. It could be cheaper for you in the long run.
@@JamesDIYGarage well I bought a wrecked 2018 jaguar from Copart and fixed it up and sold it. So I guess I’m kinda of mechanically inclined I just looked at TH-cam videos and figured it out haha. I’m sure your videos will help me a lot if I run into trouble.
It's odd they don't install the Bluetooth for consumers after you purchase it. So easy and safer I would think.
Yea, but it is very easy. Just be careful not to touch the chips and the back of the board unless you have grounded with a PC technicians ground strap. I dont have one here at the house. Lot of them at work tho.

Yep. Other than downloading the app on your phone which cost me $27.00 I think.
My friend i own 2014 maserati ghibli s q4...the issue i am having is very different..when i try acceration after 4.000rpm to 5.000rpm car lose power..and then regain power..what do you think make this fault ? Bad purge valve ? Or solonoid valve ?
Do you have any fault codes?
@@JamesDIYGarage no nothing..and when i hit full throttle car sometimes jumps in the middle of acceration..no engine codes no limp lights..

Just had thought on the way to work. Check the rubber coupling between the throttle body and the intake ducting. There could be a small leak there that opens under high boost which occurs at that rpm. Common issue with those rubber couplings. New ones are upgraded and thicker. So if you buy a new coupling get new clamps as well. Watch the last video in my Replacing Oil Pressure Sensor series. I install a new coupling in that video.

And should i also change purge valve, solonoid valve,oil ,transsmision oil and spaek plugs with injectors foe 122.00km maintenance ? Because i just bought car last week..and i should take it to maintenance i think ? By the way my friend has also ghibli ans i drove it few times..his car is way faster then my car..and i also found today that soloneid valve cable which is under engine cover has som damage..do you think maybe this might be issiue ?

Map0 - Factory tuning
MAP1 - 91 to 93 Octane
MAP2 -93+ Octane
MAP3 - E30+
MAP4 Low Boost Valet mode
MAP5 - Same AS MAP3
MAP6 - User Defined
MAP7 - 100+ Octane

I am not sure if I would do only tuning that possibly can hurt your engine lol.
I had a long email discussion with Burger Motor Sports. I was concerned about the mileage on my car 80k. But they assured me the tune by default is not overly aggressive and is safe for my engine.

Is the JB4 casing waterproof?
Water resistant but not water proof. I was thinking of that yesterday. I will put electrical tape around the seam today.
Whatever happened to just hooking up to a laptop and flashing?
Still exists, just extremely risky. JB4 was tuned specifically to the car. Very safe and reliable but also easy to remove. Flashing is permanent.
