One of the best how-to YT videos I've seen. No guy in camo flapping his hands for 5 minutes as though everyone tuned in to see his act, no needlessly long-running shots of bolts being tightened, etc., just clearly-demonstrated concise steps. Thanks

Used this video last night to replace the alternator in my son's 2003 Liberty. While it took me a bit longer than expected, watching this video was extremely helpful. Thank you.

This is why I love my 2004 Liberty so much… it’s pretty easy to work on myself and I’m not mechanically inclined at all! I’ve had very little go wrong with it, less than $1000 in small, easy repairs in the 19 years I’ve owned it!

If you're like me and have a 2010 Jeep liberty sport 4wd 3.7 V6 that doesn't exist on the internet, this video is super helpful. It showed me the exact bolts to remove what to unplug and how to remove it. Perfect. Except my alternator is lower in the engine compartment and behind my radiator. I had to pull off the grille, headlights, coolant resovoir and fan gaurd to access the tensioner. Once all of that once done it's the exact same process as the video. Got it done and my Jeep now lives once more. Thanks 1aauto!

This video was very helpful. My 04 Jeep Liberty has a cooling fan shroud that had to be removed to access the belt. Simple process and videos on YT show how. Requires a 10mm socket. Thanks for the video!

I wanted to share my appreciation. I was able to change my alternator and the battery, the dying alternator killed.. in about an hour .. 3 bolts + the power cord and clip and bingo its out.. reverse and its in.. then get the serpentine belt back on (don't take it all the way off, just remove it from the alternator.
Very nice for a parts company to provide simple tutorials like this.
**ALSO was able to use parts and video from 1aauto.com to fix the common broken window issue with my jeep liberty 06
    Thanks again!

You forgot to mention that Jeep Liberty's use two different sizes of alternator (Amp Output) although they look identical in every way. One is a 136 Amp (Oval Plug) the other is a 160 Amp (Square Plug). The only difference is in the shape of the small two-wire plugs, one is square the other is oval.

Putting the belt back on is a four handed operation. It takes two hands to pry the damn tensioner up and hold it in place. Then one hand to guide the belt onto the engine with a fourth keeping it in place on the center wheel because it likes to slide off of that because there are no grooves or channels to keep it in place. Started at 6AM this morning. Had the new alternator in and completely hooked up and even managed to clean the top of the engine where the old alternator was sitting before 630. Still haven't gotten that damn belt back on and its coming up on 1PM now.

So I went to do the replacement and my jeep has a large, black cover in front of the engine that reads "Caution: Fan." I assume that this is the fan, however I do not see the same cover in this video. Is removing this cover another step for another video or do I have a different edition of the liberty? The cover/fan prevents me from being able to take the belt off

@@1AAuto Thanks! You should know that I actually did this repair over the weekend. Here are my results: 1. The bolt sizes have changed slightly. While the belt tensioner pulley is still a 15mm bolt, the two front bolts on the Alternator are 16mm on the 2008 model Liberty, not 15mm. The other bolt sizes are the same as in your video. 2. In the 2008 and later model Liberties, the Washer fluid and cooling fluid reservoirs have been moved from the sides to the front, over the cooling fan. Additionally, a large plastic plenum has been added to the rear of the fan to increase the airflow effectiveness of the fan. This results in a very tight workspace. It is still possible to do this, but having the proper tools is very critical. I found that my socket wrench wasn't long enough and I had to use a cheater bar extension (old spark plug socket on a 12" socket extension fitting stuck over the end of my socket wrench handle) to get enough leverage in order to loosen the belt enough to get it to work. Given the tight spaces, it's not a 15 minute job, more like an hour, as you will find yourself sitting on top of the radiator/grille housing in order to get the right angle, unless you are very tall. Doing any part of it from underneath is pretty much a no-go too as the front steering and suspension components are in the way. But while difficult, it can be done, using the instructions you have provided and without removing any of the fluid reservoirs.

Are those just standard 6 point bolts that hold the alternator in place? When I went to unscrew them with my 15mm socket the head of the bolt started to strip?

    • @1AAuto

+Jeffrey Meeks You may want to check a repair manual or with the dealer. Those could be specially sized bolts just for this application. 1aauto.com

why did some jeeps with the 3.7 come with a clutch pulley, I see that one doesnt have one, clutch pulleys have a black cap on the pulley, will it hurt to install a solid pulley, obviously there are jeeps that have them and others of the same year do not. I never grew up with those types of pulleys and cars ran fine.
