    One of the best made car repair videos I've seen. Perfect camera work and a good teacher.

    Another great helpful video, these videos teach a lot of people that think replacing an alternator is so difficult they take out and spend all that money and could done it them self's. Thanks Rocky.

    Great video. You were very explanatory and to the point. All levels of safety for beginners to respect other components of the vehicle being effected by short circuiting. Having an option to disconnect the battery or taping the end of the wiring was a good idea too.

    If I did want to unhook the negative battery cable, would I not have to worry about touching metal to metal and taping? And then what do you mean by resetting?

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can unhook your negative cable, that is completely fine. I would however still tape it or secure it somewhere as for it to not touch any metal. Even though it is the ground/negative wire, if it were to touch metal and complete the vehicles circuit you could still risk damage. This is unlikely, but just an extra safety measure. As for when I said reset everything, I was just referring to my radio, equalizer, DSP, amps. All audio equipment I added and it takes a bit of time getting it all tuned correctly. Most people don't have to worry about anything resetting other than your radio presets and clock. I hope that is the info you were looking for, thanks for watching!

      resetting refers primarily to the radio and clock settings among other things

      Hey Rocky! On your sockets, do you need deep or can you just use regular 13mm and 15mm?

    Great vid. Thanks. Quick question, How long should an alternator last? I replaced mine about 2 years ago & now have to replace it again. Doesn’t seem right to me. I like the electrical tape method & will try that this time.

    How much of a difference is an 07' jeep to an '08. Because I have an 08' and I can't find a video for my vehicle year that's anywhere close to this detailed of a alternator replacement. Would I be able to use this video as a guide?

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately you have the next generation Liberty known as the KK (2008-2013) the one in the video is known as a KJ (2002-2007) I can't say for sure how different yours would be. Sorry I couldn't be of any help, but thanks for watching and reaching out!

    i wanna buy a high output alternator for my 04 libertyimited edition. have any you would recommend me getting

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The stock alternator for the KJ Liberty Limited/Sport is around 104 Amps. You can upgrade to a larger one but will need to get an External Voltage Regulator. The computer in the Liberty tells the alternator when and how much power to put out, so even if you have a 200 Amp alternator the computer is only going to let you use a little bit of that power. Plus an External Regulator would allow YOU to choose the output voltage, like 14.7V if you are looking to run a large sound-system. I would give US Alternator, Mechman or any other alternator company a call and let them know what your needs are. Thanks for watching!

    Outstanding explanation and video, it seems I need to replace my alternator after only 21,000 miles over 3 yrs and 1 month, I think this is very short and it should have lasted much longer, it was an after-market but still??? Battery is also relatively new, younger that the alternator....Any thought from anyone would be appreciated, thanks for the feedback.

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a pretty short life for a good alternator, but about average for some aftermarket ones.

      @@RockyXTV So
      i just finished the installation of the new alternator, your video was spot on and the process was exactly as you described, only one minor wrinkle - your car has a modified air intake and for those with a stock set up, its removal is needed, like I said very minor.

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I forgot about the OEM style intake. Sorry about that, you are correct it has to come off. I'm glad your install went smoothly, other than the intake...

    Great video; what brand of alternator would you recommend?

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you have the budget to spare I would recommend US Alternators, or a less expensive route would be Mechman alternators (still one of the best). This one is a generic from Eagle I think. It works, but it's corroded badly. I would also recommend an external voltage regulator on the Liberty if you are needing the extra power for a sound system. Even with the HO alternator, the voltage will stay the same because the Jeep's computer controls it. Thanks for watching!

    Why did you change it?
    I changed mine because it smoked when I attempted a jump start. It took the computer with it. No the polarity wasn't reversed.

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I changed mine over to a high output (200A) version because of all the electronics added to this Liberty. It's never good when you let the smoke out of electronics... Thanks for watching though!

    You should always remove your terminals from the battery when working on electrical in any vehicle not tape the ends of the wires. Service tech 30+ year's.

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct! I'm right there behind you with 20+ years.
      I've done it like this quite a bit just to keep memory for vehicles that don't have "non-volatile memory." Some of devices will drop memory at as little as 10.25V for extended periods, so the old 9V battery trick won't work. This is important especially when you have audio processing like complicated DSP's that can take a long time to set up & tune.
      I agree though, most of the time just disconnect.
      Thanks for watching!

    Anyone that does not use a torque wrench when tightening critical components on an engine to me is non-professional. Why play guessing game tightening steel bolts into aluminium threads and risk stripping threads or the alternator coming loose while on the highway or something..torque specs are there for a reason..
