  • Rain is a level 6+ piece for advanced wind ensemble. Audio in video is from Note Performer 4.
The finishing of Rain finally completes my Weather Cycle started more than ten years earlier. The goal for this piece was the embody the energy and character of the three earlier pieces, while also incorporating areas of music that I wanted to explore as a composer. This includes changes of color, timbral changes, and different rhythmic combinations.
This piece tells the story of a rainstorm, from before it begins, to its gales, and finally its aftermath. Like in the other three movements of the Weather Cycle, it not only represents the literal storm but also that of a figurative storm of self-discovery. As this piece helped me discover more of what I enjoy doing as a composer I hope it can help you to discover what you want to do, either as performer, conductor, or as a human being. As you go on this journey, I encourage you to let the piece overtake you, and help it to weather the storms that it brings.
