I remember way back in the day, close to when Phyrexian Unlife first got printed, building some crazy brew that tried to win with getting my life total to 0 or less and then activating Soul Conduit to flip life totals (this was back when Soul Conduit was one of only a few ways to do this kind of effect). Wasn't a good deck by any means, but I still tried it all out!
While it still requires an even life total, Spellskite seems like it has a reasonable general function. Besides, if you’re at an odd life total, a single fetch land fixes that.

Love the double (triple) meaning in the title since Brian constantly teaches about different "axes of the game" as part of MtG deck building theory. Fight on a different axis, etc.

The activated ability costs x and a phyrexian black mana to remove x counters from target permanent. It's also just a half decent card vs Planeswalkers/Urza's Saga so would highly recommend it.
I love Axis of Mortality, I started playing a bit before Ixalan and that was the first weird mythic I ever pulled. Dunno if it even ever won me a game but it was such a sweet effect starting out, especially in little 3 person kitchen table type games. Unlife+Solemnity combo really launched my love of this game, sweet to see this however it goes.
Axis of mortality is one of many cards like that in my favorite edh deck. Its got selenia in the command zone and wins games by swapping life totals when I’m at 0-1 life, its beautiful.
In terms of win conditions, I really like phyrexian mana costs - I have fond memories of immolating souleater, but a whole bunch of 'pay life as a cost' cards have just been printed. Most of the transformations have 'only as a sorcery' to prevent souleater shenanigans, but sitting on a Skrelv for ten turns, or just activating Unctus a bunch of times is still a wincon.
That was me yelling at the screen like a lunatic, when he shocked in the land match 2 game 1. when he just could play Somelnity and be extra save because he isnt at 0. holy my blood pressure
Wall of Blood is probably the cheapest + most consistent way to reduce your own life total to 0. Treacherous Blessing is also worth considering I think.
In Round 2, why weren't you just fetching Sythis during any of your upkeeps? Am I missing something about the activation timing of Sterling Grove? It doesn't have any restrictions that you have to do it as sorcery so you didn't have to wait until you drew a Horizon Canopy to do the trick.

Best part about Test of Talents is that the counter and exile are 2 separate things so there are no dependencies! I once used it to "counter" a Dovin's Veto just to search the owners library and exile all other copies of Veto. Fun card!

During the deck tech, I'm wondering if Erebos, God of the Dead could be a potential substitute for Arguel's? It's two mana more expensive but has built in indestructibility as well as other relevant text, and it dodges Prismatic Ending better. Maybe I just don't understand the deck well enough, but it seems like an upgrade to me.
@@BoshNRoll And that's the trick. If your opponent is already feeling like conceding *before* you cast your chosen win condition, you know your deck is in "win more" territory. Erebos is the win more greed option. It looks better, but it only works when you are already ahead and can *afford* to pay more. Unlife + Solemnity is already a 2-card soft lock (and hard lock against some decks). All it wants is a win condition and the fewer extra cards for the combo the better. Destiny Spinner is a 1-card addition that already looks decent in your deck and gives you that inevitability you want. Meanwhile Axis looks cool and 6 mana doesn't seem like that big a deal if you're already in a lock, but it still isn't a self contained win. It just stretches your combo from 3 to 4 or more cards. At that point if you want a "big mana" janky win condition you might as well run something like Helix Pinnacle because at least it doesn't require anything extra.
I dont know your PC Setup, but if you want to cut out the Chainsaws e.g. you could use NVIDIA RTX Voice (which is in Beta), but maybe its worth a try. Thanks for the great content!
just play Eidolon of the great revel, then cast a bunch of enchantments into it and deal yourself a bunch of damage. its already in your splash so you can cut black all together and streamline the mana base
With 8 enchantresses and redraws in your fixing i feel like the only resource lacking when you were not already winning was mana. Maybe there is a better world for axis where you cheat it out or do some stupid infinite mana thing and then annihilate yourself with a vampire-esque creature to even get some lore points on the side. Being so controlling and also wanting to die feels like your legs are running apart from each other

The best tool for getting your life total to 0 in modern is plunge into darkness, I believe. 1B: Pay any amount of life, do some stuff.

Plunge Into Darkness is a good cheap way to pay all your life. Use to have an alternate win condition EDH deck.
How about toxic deluge? Lose your board but it can stabilize early or just win if you have the combo.
