    Great video TD! One thing i don't get is the dislikes. Is this salt coz one person actually takes the time to put some effort behind it to review the stuff he actually likes?
    Thanks to you i got some awesome sounding speakers/receiver. Your "jump music" always puts a smile on my face. Keep up the good work!

      Captain Howdy they could be disliking the video because they don’t like the receiver. No need to start drama

      Out of 118.000 views it's not unlikely that most of all the 90 dislikes are accidental ones. It's easy to touch the unlike button when you watch on your phone while also doing other stuff...

    Thanks so much for your review. I watched you on your friends video. You helped him set up his Klipsch. I am a huge Klipsch fan and currently own RP 800s, RP502s, the RP center. My subs are polks from before (2 10s) which are over powering in my room. I keep them low and it still floods. I have the Sony and it is my second Sony. I was a Yamaha fan until quality issues soured me. Went pioneer and more issues. The Sonys have been work horses. I bought them because a tech rep at Bestbuy told me it was the receiver he never sees for repairs. I researched it and it is (at the time) the most dependable. I learned a lot from your video and I have owned this 1080 for 2 years. Thanks again!!!

    I'm a starter for having Dolby Atmos. This was a big help. I was eyeballing this receiver its a great price, and this video showing how it works and its specific settings really helped!

    I have the str dn 1070 and compared to the other receivers from denon and yamaha that i've owned from around the same price point it had a more robust sound and no post processing was needed, I was impressed.

    Love your presentation Channa. Super smooth flow. I too like the style of the Sony's UI. Looks much more graphical than my $2600 Onkyo TX-NR5008 receiver. LOL. One thing that frustrates me is they are claiming 165 x 7 for a sub $500 receiver. That just isn't going to happen. It's so misleading, especially to those that don't know.

      Thanks man! Yeah, I'm probably going to address the power issue in another video. Most of those power ratings are for 2 channels driven but that's pretty optimistic!! Lol!

      Youthman yeah about two years ago when I got into home theater I thought the Sony dn1060 was a bargin being 165 watts with 7 channels driven for only 500 dollars until I did more research and figured out alot of cheap avrs had bogus ratings.

      My technical pro receiver claims that it is 1500 watts total. Impossible for a 5 channel receiver that weighs 10LBS and is well under 200.00 from every place bu the Manufacturers website. I looked at receivers with similar hardware sold in foreign countries seems to be 35-80wpc times 2 and 20-50 watts into the other channels.
      I bet Theyre measuring 7khz tones with the sony, pioneer, Denon,and technical pro recevers... Fishy.

      @Youthman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I had a Mid-Tier Yamaha RX-V1800 receiver. I believe it was around $1200 new. It sounded great until I went from a 5.1 to a 7.1. Adding the last pair of speakers made the entire system sound anemic. I later discovered that Sound and Vision had bench test results and they said it dropped from 130 wpc to only 55 wpc when 7 speakers were being driven. I guess if manufacturers told the truth they would sell less product.

    • @akshaybhantooa1194
      @akshaybhantooa1194 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What is the true wattage per speaker? I'm currently only using a 2.1 set-up, so I don't think I'll run into the issue that you're describing, however, this would definitely hamper my upgrade plans should I choose to go 4.1 or even 7.2!

    İyi günler, iki incelemenizi de izledim, emeğiniz için teşekkürler. İngilizce bilmiyorum, Türkiye'den yazıyorum ve izliyorum sizi. Merak ettiğim şey şu, USB modundayken 5.1 DSD(dsf, dff) dosyaları oynatabiliyor mu. Elimde çok sayıda 5.1 dsf müzik dosyası var ancak AV Receiverlerin bir çoğu USB sadece 2.0 dosyaları oynatabiliyor. Bu da ekstra masraf demek çünkü bu 5.1 müzik dosyaları için ayrıca bir DAC ve Amfi almanız gerekiyor. İlginiz için şimdiden teşekkürler, kolay gelsin.

    Hi ! This is the receiver I have with the full Sony Core Speaker bundle (LF, C, RF, 2 Atmos, 2 Bookshelf). Also getting a SVS PB2000. I'm debating on returning the Sony, and going with Denon x3600h for extra power and Enhanced IMAC. or should I just keep what I have and buy an amp for addl power? Would like to know your thoughts. Thanks!

    Hey Techno Dad, great video! I have a quick question, I just bought the a home theater with the Sony STR-DH790 and I have pre-existing speaker wire for surround in the house I just bought. The wires are not labeled where they all come out of the wall by where the receiver will be installed, my question is how can I test to make sure I hook up my left and right rear surround speakers correctly without getting the speakers crossed? Is there a way I can test sound for just the right and left rear surround speakers from the receiver when hooking everything up? Thanks for any help from anyone!

    Hi. I have this receiver. I had sony 4 SS-230, SCN-230, 2 sony floor bi amp speakers and sony SA-W303 subwoofer. I have problems with some SS-230 because sometimes fell to the floor. I change the SS and the subwoofer to Polk Audio TL250 and Polk Audio PSW110 Subwoofer. I dont sense the sound with power. I also change the speakers cables. I think the wire gauge is the problem. Of the speaker wires gauge doesnt matters?

    I just bought this reciever. Does it matter which sound field I pick? I mainly use it for watching 4k blu rays. Some choices are Dolby Surround, Nueral:X, A.F.D. I just have no clue which is the best one. I obviously want to be listening to Dolby Atmos or whatever is the best sound.

    Great video. I am having a bit of trouble though; I can only get my display to show ‘Dolby TrueHD 7.1’ rather than ‘Dolby Atmos’ when I click the ‘Display Mode’ button on the front. I was looking at Onkyo TX-NR686 and Sony STR-DN1080.. I own Onkyo before.. but this tike decided go with Sony, since they support 165w x 7 channels, compared to Onkyo 120w x 7 channels. I got Focal Sib Evo 5.1.2 speaker set too.. And it’s a huge upgrade from my previous set. Focal speakers focused to vocals.. played movie other night.. and can tell difference straight away.. Sony receiver’s volume was set to 10 🤭 and got clear sound.. compared to my old set, used to set volume to 30.

    Question: I have a Sony STR-DN1080 receiver with 4 in-ceiling speakers, a center channel speaker and a subwoofer. Can I run 2 of the in-ceiling speakers in the Front A channel or should I run them in the Surround channel and the other 2 in the Surround Back/Height channel?

  • @DruuzilTechGames
    @DruuzilTechGames 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it possible to run for example a 4k Blu Ray player to a receiver (which supports Atmos), then out from the receiver to an Atmos-capable Soundbar (I have a Sony HT-ST 5000), while also having speakers connected to the receiver being capable of outputting audio? So for example, the Soundbar is 7.1.2, but this specific soundbar is NOT compatible with rear speakers (the subsequent model the Z95F does support rear speakers from Sony). I would like to get some rear channel audio, as the Atmos effect doesn't really cut the mustard for simulating rear speakers.
    So, could I use the soundbar for the front/side channels, and connect 2 speakers (or more for that matter) to the receiver? If I did so, would audio be output through the speakers AND the soundbar, or would it just do one or the other?
    If you don't know, no big deal. :) Thanks for your time, nice video btw.

    Hey TD. So ? about setup on my Sony Atmos receiver. I have it connected to Zappiti player and recently after over 8 months of no issues, my receiver will not play any Atmos/DTS or multi channel sources from it... Display only shows like 2 channel sources L & R with no additional speakers lit up... Like i said this has been working for months and just recently it stopped... I thought maybe i had to hit Pure Direct button but this does not work. When i try to play Atmos containing sound from Zappiti the Display on receiver correctly shows the source audio as Atmos 7.1/ 5.1 etc but then no sound. However if i go on Zappiti and play a TV show with 2 Channel sound it plays fine.. so it is just issue with these advance settings... Wondering if my receiver is defective or if i just need to reset to factory presets and start over? or try to recalibrate it using your settings above.. My Sony is STR-ZA5000ES so 9.1 Atmos Receiver... Any thoughts would be greatly helpful.. Also, would trying to reach out to Sony Support (not sure the phone number or live chat info) be helpful? Cost me around 2K for this and hope it is not defective in less than 2 years use? thanks in advance Neil

    your videos are super cool...
    Asking the same doubts again
    I recently upgraded to sony-str-dn1070 7.2 AV Receiver(for room size LWH 24*12*10 ft)it produces 165W per channel, \i\m confused in choosing the suitable subs and surround speakers
    1)already have 150W active Sub Pioneer S-31 W. Receiver produces 165W & Sub power is 150W RMS does it affect this Sub?
    2)Can I hook 1 or 2 passive sub woofer( or car sub JBL Stage 1010) directly to my receiver? reason active subs are costly
    3)have surround speakers Pioneer S-11 package(Max input power is 150W) can I use it?
    4)suggest some surround speakers, look wise I like compact speakers but I need better audio quality.
    5)small or big speakers which is better for my room?
    6)why ATMOS speakers are costly ? its just tilted or it has an engine inside the speaker box? :)
    I dont want loud sound, need deep bass and crystal clear audio. Mostly watching movies & Music

    You didn't mentioned, that Dolby Atmos is only avaliable via eARC if the Sound Field set to "Dolby Surround" at MOVIE sound field or "A.F.D." or "Multi Ch Setreo" at 2CH/MULTI sound field. In any other cases it decode the multi chanel to Dolby Digital + or Dolby Digital (depending on a Sony Bravia settings to eARC).

    Henca I wonder how large the actual difference to the mid level avr's are? E.g. Marantz 7012 or LX901? Can anyone tell? Have a 7.2 set up with two monitor audio silver 8.

    When it comes to the atmos do you have to have atmos modules or can you have regular surrounds as your height. Because when it reads Dolby digital plus encoding on the media but it doesn't display Dolby Atmos and I have it properly set to 5.1.2 front heights

    Very informative..question.I have a kinda newer Sony x900f tv. It Says on the back that only hdmi 2-3 Are 2.2 supported..So I guess my question is, if I have something in one and four will that hurt my Dolby Vision or HDR 10? Or The difference please!Thanks for all your videos, really helps out..thanks,joe

      Hi! If you were to get an AVR you would only use one HDMI input. So you’re good to go there. If that’s not the case, I would put your highest priority 4K HDR devices on HDMI inputs 2 and 3. 4K HDR will work on inputs 1 and 4 but it won’t be as good as on the other two. Hope that helps!

      Jacob Gil Yes DV pass through works as of firmware M41.R.0374. note that the receiver needs HDR turned on, on a per HDMI basis. I struggled with that on first setup before I realized.

Either choice will have a 8” sub.. any help would be appreciated as I am on the fence with choosing one, I have 2 weeks before I have to have for install into our new house?

    Heads up to OLED owners interested in this STR-DN1080 it doesn't go in screen saver or dim mode on my B7 when left alone for long periods. Love the receiver but a little worried about burn in potential when using it to cast music.

    • @SuperCheesyMan
      @SuperCheesyMan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aaron w i have that receiver hooked on my B7 as well. Like you I'm always worried about burn in, my solution is just to turn the screen saver (screen off) from the tv when i cast music. Problem solved

    • @aaron8077
      @aaron8077 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Francois-Xavier Nhieu that only works well if you don't use CEC. When I turn off my tv it turns off the receiver. I can cast to the receiver when everything is off and the tv won't turn on but it's inconvenient and I just wish it supported dim or screen saver.

    Nice vid. I have found with my receiver, that if you have no input connected to HDMI, and are using the HDMI connected to your TV for just the menus and audio return channel, I get HDCP problems and it blanks the screen. Plugging in ANY source removes the problem. Sony tech support was no help. The told me to do a "factory reset"....which was silly. I hope this saves someone some headache.
