Hey man thanks for the video. I have a 2000 Durango 5.9 4x4. While I was replacing the fog lights I realized the bump stop was gone on one side and the other one had nearly disintegrated all the way inside the cup. I ordered the Dorman stops you recommended. They were delivered quickly and easy to put in with a little silicone lubricant and elbow grease. Much better ride w/o bottoming out! Thanks again man!
Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. They are one of those things that most people don't even know needs to be checked/replaced every once and a while. Good to hear you got yours fixed.
great video thank you very much... I just did front brakes and rotors on my 03 Durango and I noticed that my one Bump Stop is in bad shape and the other one is completely gone. I had no idea they were that easy to replace thanks again
Dielectric grease should be fine. It doesn't damage rubber like chassis/multipurpose grease does. I'm glad my video helped you out. Thanks for watching & commenting. I appreciate it.
The Plow Guys haha so am I its just hard to find out who is good and who isn't sometimes. I think I have a good reliable group of guys on my channel to learn from for sure.
The Dorman bump stops would not fit on my 03 Dakota no matter how much force I used. I ended using a new blade on my Olfa utility knife to cut off about 1/8" - 3/16" from the top. They finally fit.
Sorry to hear that. They went in super easy for me. Maybe the cups were damaged? Or was the problem not enough clearance between the frame and the lower control arm?
Man don’t I wish mine looked like that, here I come looking for a replacement for the entire bump stop metal it’s self 😂 wish mine was only just that little rubber deteriorating that’s nothing compared to mine lol
The metal is rusted away? Wow. Maybe you can pick up a new (to you) one at a local junk yard? There are also 'universal' bump stops at most auto parts stores that have a bolt molded into them that you might be able to bolt on. Good luck.
Not from the factory as far as I'm aware. Unless someone replaced the stock bump stop with an aftermarket and decided to put a bolt through it. IMS, the 2x4's had their bump stops screwed/bolted on. Good luck.
I took the wheel off so I could video tape it and to give more clearance. You don't have to remove it, but it does make it easier. If you use a little bit of silicone spray (available at most autocrats stores) it should slide right in. If you don't have any of that you can use a very little bit of dish/hand soap. Hope that helps.
What the heccckkkkk I just bought timbrens DF15004C bumper package for the front of a 02 Dodge ram 1500 4wd 5.9l vehicle matched fine when purchasing and when I pulled my old bumpstop there was no hole to put the bolt thru for timbren springs but yours does have it and its not even the same year??
Sorry to hear that. I've never used those bumpers before. Maybe its a Durango vs Ram issue? I'd contact Timbrens. They may expect you to drill the hole yourself? I don't know. Good luck.
You never want the lower control arm to be in constant contact with the bump stop. It means you have little to no suspension travel and will put excessive strain on the ball joints and likely cause them to fail prematurely. You could shave off some of the bump stop to give you some clearance, but I don't recommend it. Hope that helps.
@@petrocksgarage thanks, I redid the whole front suspension with no prior car experience and at the end got it up and running but also noticed it was riding on the bumpstop. Imhaving difficulties giving the torsionbar key another turn for it to ride higher though
@@7Supernova7, a long(er) breaker bar might help. Also some penetrating oil might help make it slide easier. Put some on the bolt, where it goes through the pivots and the bolt head rotates within the pivot. With that said, if you raise the truck up so the suspension is at full extension, the bolt will be easier to turn. But if you do that you have to drop it and resettle the suspension each time you make an adjustment which can be a P.I.T.A. and very time consuming. Good luck.
No. They just prevent the suspension from compressing too far. If by 'curve in' you mean the wheels point inward (e.g. pigeon toed) then you need an alignment (assuming there are no damaged components, like bent tie rods, control arms, steering knuckles or bad control arm bushings etc). A good alignment shop should be able to sort all that out for you. If a component is damaged it can't be aligned until the damaged part is repaired/replaced. Good luck.
A bump stop would most likely not cause a squeak. Its unlikely, but possible, for the ball joints to speak. However, its most likely the control arm bushings. Good luck.
Good luck. Rough ride can be caused by a lot of things. e.g. bad pump stops, ball joints, control arm bushings, shocks or wheel bearings. Or if its lifted/lowered too far. Good luck.
I'm having a hard time with these on my 02 Dakota. I checked and double checked the part number and all signs are the fitment is correct #205. Silicon spray isn't helping. The top side doesn't want to go in far enough to catch the little dimple things.

I have a 2 wheel drive 03 Dakota , It wants to over stear from a stop both left or right turns Not Sure if its the Rack pinion or tires , I just got it 120 miles but I have to fight the wheel when turning . Anyone know why it will pull the steering wheel out of your hand try to do a you turn ? It had tie rods and ball joints done before I got it . Runs nice on the road no slop or pulling .
It is hard to diagnose something like this from my keyboard. But most likely it is an alignment issue. The caster/camber is likely messed up. Best take it to a shop to have it looked at. Good luck.

That still sounds like the caster adjustment (part of the alignment) is way off. If you let go of the wheel while turning the steering wheel & tires should automagically turn back towards the center.
