What a trooper she was. I was stationed in Oklahoma and had orders to a school in Charleston SC. A friend I worked with also had to go to same school. He was from Wa State and had never been east of Mississippi River. I asked he wanted to ride the scoot, he said sure. I had a Suzuki GS 1100 trimmed out with fairing etc. His eyes were as big a saucers at some of the sites. It is great to take someone on that experience.
Loved the comment "save some panic for later" Some rain gear might have allowed her to be a little warmer and cut wind. For me everything looks better on the bike. Happy trails.

Motorcycles are about joy 🤩 and the very reason you ride with all your senses wide full open, not just the machine and cocoon you inadvertently put yourself into. Thank you HTW, for bringing out the joy of riding sharing your true passion for our sport.

Even if just once in your life you say “fuck it” and just... ride. Ride it out. Miles under the tyres. Sun, wind, rain. The creeping dusk, the bleeding dawn.

I guess that after a million miles in a semi truck, I think a lot of mesentery for granted. I often dream of riding my bike over there. And in Florida too. I live in Idaho, There are a lot of really beautiful places over there. What's the best ride that I have ever taken was through the Redwood Forest in Northern California. And then Up the Oregon coastline. I know that it seems like it's on the other side of the world, Florida feels like that for me when it comes to my bike. but if you've never done that ride, put it on your bucket list. I hope when I move down there I get to run into you at some point. I love riding in the mountains back home though. Getting to hear someones outside perspective on it makes me wish I hadn't grown up there and got to experience it. Not that I had a bad life there but I just feel like I don't get to enjoy it the same way you did. But man those views are gonna be something I miss. I'm a Virginia guy and we ride the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah valley regularly. Its great to see you appreciate it. I think we take it for granted most of the time but seeing it through your camera and watching you experience it make me appreciate it that much more.
Glad you made it home safe.

When I got my first bike the salesman told me one phrase that has always stood out in my mind, and around 13:45 you reminded me of it again Josh. "There are 2 types of riders in the world. Those who have fallen, and those who are going to fall. So why be afraid of the consequences?"

This video and the other one inspired me. Couldn’t take the bike, but finally got off two days in a row. Grabbed the truck and took off on a 16 hour trip to Tennessee. The road is freedom, and the bike is the key, but just getting out of here helped blow off some steam.

I recently took your advice and went on a road trip. Not near as long as yours, but it was there longest I've gone to date. I had a blast. You're right, if you make excuses of why you can't, you won't. Enjoy the ride.

Go to the east side of Charleston WV and ride the backroads following the river... best roads to bike through and lots of small coal mining towns with all the ambiance you could hope for.

Absolutely Amazing Brother! Memories you'll have forever. We truly do live in a beautiful country if you take the time to look. And to make it even better, on a 30+ year old GoldWing, basically trouble free. That's why I love my 85 Interstate. So happy you took us along on this epic journey!

Girl on the back needed some sort of rain suit to keep the wind from going through her clothing. Made the mistake of underpacking once on a bike trip and was freezing my ass off. Finally put on my rain suit and it made all the difference in the world.😬

This series is by far my favorite of your content. I have a 1200 Goldwing as well and had the front end wobble. Fresh tires and All Balls steering head bearings helped a lot. These bikes are underengineered for the backroad trips as you said. Still a beautiful ride! Thanks for taking us along!

I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. What a fantastic video. When you started talking about riding 600 miles in the rain and your experience I'm sorry I could not stop laughing. Only because I've been there that I could enjoy your experience so much. I rode 400 miles in the pouring rain from Milwaukee to Ohio on a naked 1983 goldwing with no rain gear just a leather jacket. I loved the entire video. Thank you. You will never forget that experience and will be telling that story to friends. From the emotion in your voice I could feel your adventure. This is why we ride !

Thanks for taking me along! Excellent. Nice to meet someone like me, who decides to do something, has it go wrong, but continues on despite that being the bad choice. I was caught in a (dying) cyclone on a motard. Soaking wet, shit roads, shit visibility and utterly inappropriate tires. Did I stop - of course not - that would’ve been the smart thing to do. Ride on Shadetree!

I've had my head down working on some projects for the past month , so I didn't get to see this until now. As a West Virginian, I am so happy that you enjoyed our roads (even though the Goldwing didn't lol). If you and some friends ever find your way out here again, I will happily offer to put you guys up for your stay and point out some awesome backroads for you to take on! Just... don't plan on coming back through between October and March of any year, because then you'll have ice to contend with on top of the leaves and grass. Ride safe!

You’re a NUT! Did that ride in reverse ( New York to FL and back) but took 9 days and hunkered down in a hotel for Sally. Didn’t go on an interstate until I ran out of mountains in GA so I was REALLY happy to see you get off them. I couldn’t agree more. West VA is gods gift to motorcycles. And call me a h*mo but the only way I could explain the blue Ridge Pkwy was magical. Wish I knew you were out there. Would have kept my eyes open for that awesome purple goldwing. Keep up the great work!

I drove home from Ft. Hood to Connecticut, through the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, when I got out of the Army in the mid 70's, and fell in love with the area. 14 years ago, I finally got to move here, and I now get to ride it every day. Glad you made it home safe, and a big h/t to Arabh0ney.

I was on my own road trip, riding into Sally on my 2016 Indian Chieftain, from the Maryland/Virginia State line to Blairsville, GA so I could ride the Tail of the Dragon, you know, in a tropical storm. I had nothing but trouble with my cameras, so I got nothing from my Akaso (GoPro knockoff) and only 5 minutes of the Tail of the Dragon. Still, I said a lot of the same things you did along the way. I really needed that road trip and it was definitely the adventure I needed.
I'll say it my way, which is close to yours: that trip was irresponsible and dangerous and ill-advised but there was one big reason to do it and that was reason enough, because IT WAS WORTH IT.
I'm glad you made it back safe, and it's pretty cool knowing that we were on the same roads in the same storm. I look up to you a bit, so that means a lot to me.

Hey shade tree, maintenance items on the 1200 that shut you down are the stator, stator to regulator harness, regulator, no oil in the rear differential, fork seal failure. Lack of maintenance and age are it’s biggest killers. Mostly electrical as you found out. Keep the fluids full!
