    Gargraves is a great choice. My 24 x 32 layout with FOUR mainlines is all GG with a few Ross switches. I solder my feeder wires to Gargraves from the bottom. I place the wire in the web of the bottom of the rail and with a good AND hot iron flow solder into the web of the rail and wire. You can not see it from above and nothing will pull on it. Good luck and thanks for sharing.

    Still working my 19 year old, college student ass off, building my Lionel Postwar layout. Both of my grandfathers had it when they were young, and they've passed it all on to me. It's just a basic loop at the moment, with some switches giving me some sidings inside the loop, but it's mine, and it's coming along nicely.

    This will be FANTASTIC to watch the progress of this massive update! This episode alone was great as with all your others vids! Somehow you manage to keep me not bored with the perfect combination of train running footage and rest of the video, as in my opinion just watching trains go round on a video is not always as great as doing it IRL which I love doing. I installed homasote which is a paper product designed as a sound barrier on top of my 1/2 pine board. That cut the noise down on my trains running on my fast track quite significantly. You can get homasote at any lumber yard. Fast track is easier for me as I’m not very good at the intricate detailing aspect in model railroading. I’m still learning how to build building and practice my skills to get better.

    Another great video, Chris! I'm looking forward to your progress. We used GarGraves track on my dad's layout years ago and it was easy to use and looks great. Even the 36" flex sections weren't too bad to work with. We made a jig out of plywood to do a few custom bends and it worked well. (He FINALLY finished the ballast earlier this year!)

    Thanks for the update, Chris. I'm looking forward to your progress in this new phase of your layout. The new elevated track lines plan looks great, although I'm surprised you haven't any cross overs between the two lines. You certainly have set yourself up for a lot of work, but I don't doubt that you got a handle on it. See next time.

    My brother's layout was using old hollow Lionel track and the noise was pretty bad. So bad that he switched to Fast Track afterwards which helped a lot but didn't eliminate the noise. I'm mostly still just messing around with N scale at the moment. I'd like to get my little layout all wired up and finished. I've just had life getting in the way far too often, plus getting sick last weekend when I was planning on doing some work. The universe is just conspiring against me getting ANYTHING done as far as hobbies. ☹ But it is what it is. There is a train show coming up here in the Plano, Tx area and he and I are planning to go to that. We may hit the first day but that's the day after the Weird Al Yankovic concert lol so I may have to sleep in and hit the show on Sunday. Although I don't want to miss out on any sweet deals on things I don't need but have to have.
    I'll bet it was a pretty difficult decision to make to partially tear down the layout. But as the upper loops didn't contain near as much scenery it doesn't adversely affect the overall "Feel" of the layout to change it. And I think that's important as it's just an evolution rather than a complete renovation.

    • @RBPTrains
      @RBPTrains  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hope you are feeling better! Evolution is a great way to put it. When I built the layout, the elevated sections were an afterthought. Now I can lay them out the way I originally wanted. Thanks for watching and hope you can get back to your hobbies soon!

    The prices for wood and foam boards has been really expensive out here in the Golden State, but I at least decided to grow my infrastructure and might have too much for my EVENTUAL layout. Growing my fleet is my other goal. Keep on chugging along my friend!

    I luv gargraves my layout is 12x16 and with the ross switches. I'm able to have 2 track main and a passing siding plus a yard and extra sidings and run pretty much any locomotive. Using fast track or any Modular tack system wouldn't have worked for a confined layout. But the sweet part is ross switches can get track into places where a person would think it couldn't be done 😏

    I hand lay my track, not something I would ever expect a 3 railer to do of course, Gargraves is great track, but one thing that always bothered me, your upper loops were supported by just bridge piers, where was the bridge or viaduct underneath the track? Love the new design. I might have gone with Atlas as it is solid rail. I am a S gauge person. Did you ever think about adding S gauge to you layout?

    Great Video, i was wondering what smallest curve you were running one your layout was on the bottom section of your layout? You run a lot of larger articulated engines so I was a bit curious

      Great question! For the main table, I useO72 on the outside track and O60 on the inside reversing loop. All of the switches are O72. Thanks for watching!

    I’d love some fastrack I only have the John Deere diesel locomotive and collected 2 smaller steam locomotives and one had freight I barely got enough track to run all three

    Thank you for sharing this. It will be great for us to follow along. A very ambitious project you’re taking on. Wondering if the program you are using is more Mac friendly than SCARM.

      Not sure about Anyrail on Mac. Someone in the forum may know. Thanks for watching and we shall see what I have gotten myself into, haha!

    I'm interested in your FastTrack

    @RBP Trains I heard you have a map of your layout, where can I find it? Also, with your fastrack, do you sodder jumpers in between fastrack pieces for a better contact? And lastly for your main circuit of track (the bottom one) for a layout of that size how many transformer to track connections are there? My layout is a 5x9 and I'm not sure if I should have more than one power point or how frequently I should have jumpers.
    I think you made a good choice with this and sorry for the long comment!

    You should build a heĺex between the two layouts. I have used fllex Atlas HO

    Have you thought about having the upper and lower track connect in anyway?

    • @RBPTrains
      @RBPTrains  ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought about it, but it would require more space and rework. Going to keep the levels separate for now. Great idea though!
