Concrete - 1:26 I Disagree - 5:50 BLOODMONEY - 9:59 Anything Like Me - 13:24 Fill The Crown - 18:19 Didn’t expect this one, Corgi the goat this editing clean as hell
Very important about the album is the aspect of Poppy separating from her former creative director Titanic Sinclair who allegedly abused and manipulated her a lot. Thus all the themes of disagreeing and breaking free form oppression. Ironically, Sinclair still has lots of writing credits on the album. They separated right after the release.
BLOODMONEY was actually nominated for a Grammy for best metal performance but she didn't win even though it was one of the best contender in the category. Anyways she performed her new single 'EAT' live at the Premier Ceremony and she literalilly ate up the stage so not bad from her. I recommend you to react to that performance, it was amazing.
I can't believe I want from hating Brad as 12 year old because he didn't like Twenty One Pilots, to absolutely loving his raw, genuine opinions on music.
Poppy went through some abuse when she was with a former producer (Titanic Sinclair) and now that she’s able to do her own stuff she’s tryna break away from the image he pushed onto her. It’s wild
It has been theorized for years now that Poppy was developed as a parody or satire of the "artists who are secretly doing the bidding of the Illumanati" schtick
the fact that poppy went from posting the most obscure videos and generating conspiracy theories to... this... i think is pretty cool. my favourite song of hers is "am i a girl?" but this album slaps as well
The thing I love about concrete is that at first, it shocks you with the switch up, but you soon put the pieces together when you have the context of the chorus.
Definitely give Fill the Crown another listen or two at a later time, I had a pretty similar reaction to yours on my first listen and it completely flipped on me when I tried it again later. And the abrupt, awkward ending is a bit of a troll, not giving the listener that final breakdown they probably expect
i think the ending is supposed to be a reference to the lyric “stop the beat when i take it too far” or something like that. as she “goes too far,” and the music starts to build in intensity the entire song stops abruptly
The post chorus of Fill the Crown sounds weird because it can be played backwards to say 'Everyone with the mark will live,' you have to watch the music video to understand it
This was one of my favorite albums of last year, I had a lot of fun listening to it under headphones on my rainy commute in the weeks before lockdown. The most fun mashup of nu metal, industrial, and pop I've ever heard, really. Seriously one of my favorite releases.
it was probably explained by someone else in these comments but this whole album is basically a major turning point in her life and her music (obvi), a lot of the songs are, or at least can be equated to, a whole situation with her ex and her exs ex. This transition was already sort of in progress with Am I A Girl but I think the whole thing was a large push in this specific direction.
Poppy sure can make you think and she most definitely is not boring and when you hear the next five songs from this album it is no surprise to me that she is Grammy nominated and made the list for 2020 as one of the top best albums of the year with "I Disagree". Poppy rocks!!! Good reaction video to my favorite artist-thanks!
Much of this album was Poppy's discovery of "Kawaii Metal" she discovered in Japan.. A form of Idol \.. what I would call IdolMetal or Kawaii metal (aka Ladybaby Babymetal and Iron Bunny) where Metal and Idol/pop are combined
Hi Brad, I've been waiting for this reaction, so glad to see it! A tiny bit of context regarding Poppy: she crafted her persona along with Titanic Sinclair who previously worked (and dated) another artist called Mars Argo, after their break up he used an oblivious Poppy as a substitute by stealing Mars Argo's persona and pushing it onto Poppy, in fact many videos are shade at Mars Argo. This album is the aftermath of Poppy finding out and breaking free. Context makes some songs more enjoyable, especially 'Anything Like Me' in my opinion. Loved the video btw, keep up the good work!
My read on the album is that it is capturing the idea of feeling like you need to maintain a happy and bubbly facade or maintain a role in society you don't want to maintain, while you are being put down and should feel angry and dejected. Be that as a public figure like Poppy, or just someone who goes to work everyday and has to pretend like everything is going well for them. It's about embracing these angry and uncomfortable feelings, rather than just accepting what is happening to you. The album is telling you to rebel against your conditions and stop settling. It really just feels like a wild release of pent up feelings, which is why I love it so much. It's just incredibly cathartic. You brought up some really good points about the struggle of identity through out as well, which definitely overlaps with the themes I mentioned above.
Yesss! There’s a lot happening on that album, it feels like she was really exploring different sounds. I agree that it’s a bit messy and all over the place but there’s definitely some gems in there
So, my thoughts on Anything Like Me are that it is about Mars Argo, and I think Hard Feelings is about the same person. She's trying to resist the fact that they started in the same place and she's trying to tell me both Titanic and her Audience who know about Mars that she isn't the same, that they shouldn't be compared, but not in a way that disrespect Mars and what she went through. A little context helps me understand those two tracks a bit better
Anything Like Me is actually one of my favourite tracks on the album because of how complicated her feelings are about her predecessor. Like she's clearly legit concerned and afraid, but also she's asserting herself as the one who "did it right" ("you shouldn't be anything like me" vs "you'll *never* be anything like me"). And while it's definitely about Argo, I think it's about exorcising the character of Poppy too.
yesss! i really liked this album when it came out as well as Poppy’s other album Am i a Girl too but i feel like i like Am i a Girl more because it’s more of a commentary about the world as well as being a concept album
I think Ghost’s 2015 album “Meliora” would be a great reaction. It’s a really varied record and a perfect encapsulation of what makes that band so fun/interesting.
fantastic video as always! the editing is amazing! big shoutouts to crogi also, if you haven't already listened to any of his works, i'd love to see some MF DOOM reactions. i think you could have fun with the lyrics. production quality depends heavily on which project you react to, but for beginners i can recommend Madvillainy or MM...FOOD!
As well as an amazing reaction, I also heard something that I might actually want to check out right after? I think I’m adding this album, this sounds incredible!
Not gonna lie, was not interested in Poppy in the slightest until watching this; now I actually want to check this thing out for myself! The major stylistic switch-ups definitely feel unique and add a certain quality to the music. Thanks, Brad! Side note: honestly, judging by the things you've enjoyed about what you've heard so far (aside from super drastic stylistic change-ups), I think you might really enjoy The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails (in case you haven't heard it, of course (at least, judging by your AOTY page)). It's a visceral, unrelenting journey dealing with some rather dark subject matter, while never really running out of ideas. Plus, it has a great flow from track to track with a logical placement in the listing, making it a very satisfying album experience. Granted, this album has been recommended to you a dozen times, so I apologise for adding another one to the pile, but I feel that (at least based on the things you've liked up to this point, including this) this album would really suit your tastes while also being a satisfying front-to-back listen. Just wanted to say *why* I think this album is worth a listen instead of just saying "name-artist" and leaving it at that. Also: bruh, this sounds almost *nothing* like Metallica (at least, when referring to their classic 80's material).
It was more unique in 2010 when Babymetal invented the genre. :) But i like Poppy too, her album tracks and music videos are great. And hey, imitation is the highest form of flattery. Here's a Babymetal video from 2013: th-cam.com/video/cK3NMZAUKGw/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=BABYMETAL
i literally found this album yesterday and fell in love with it so it’s great you came out with this, also sure listen to metallica if you wanna! i recommend either master of puppets or ride the lightning
A significant portion of this album is about her former producer Titanic Sinclair as well as his previous attempt to create the Poppy character with an artist called Mars Argo, so it makes sense that you wouldn't really get a lot of the lyrics without that context
1:21 - concentrate
5:31 - concrete

Thank you equius pfp

Ironically, Sinclair still has lots of writing credits on the album. They separated right after the release.
the lyrics at 10:23 make a lot more sense now
Review my depression please brad

Unexpected but highly appreciated. Also editing is on point, dude!
He didn't edit this one lol, got a good editor & probably directed the editing really well tho
Brad, please tell Corgi he has lowkey the best editing skills I've seen in this platform in a long time
I can't believe I want from hating Brad as 12 year old because he didn't like Twenty One Pilots, to absolutely loving his raw, genuine opinions on music.
Same haha
Same lmfao
Poppy went through some abuse when she was with a former producer (Titanic Sinclair) and now that she’s able to do her own stuff she’s tryna break away from the image he pushed onto her. It’s wild
BLOODMONEY is so fucking good, honestly
It has been theorized for years now that Poppy was developed as a parody or satire of the "artists who are secretly doing the bidding of the Illumanati" schtick
Im pretty sure that's not a theory but it's what she actually does
thats not a theory lmao that is her whole character
Hence the robo-pop shtick! 🤣🤣🤣
the fact that poppy went from posting the most obscure videos and generating conspiracy theories to... this... i think is pretty cool. my favourite song of hers is "am i a girl?" but this album slaps as well
OH MY GOD DUDE THIS IS THE BEST ALBUM OF 2020
Better than 'Visions of Bodies Being Burned'?

I was looking for someone to comment on that hahaha
Poppy started as a vocalist in a rock band, so she was always close to guitar music, don't know much of backstory of her early days
Wot? She just sang country/indie pop songs, she only started doing the rock thing recently
I think bc she’s with ghostmane now
@@madisondelia9730 she made heavy music way before she met ghoste tho
I think her father was in a band rock/metal
@@Dialanxce yeah im pretty sure thats true, she was in a dancing team/ballet instead i think but that might be slightly wrong
i've never seen editing like this in a reaction, it's so creative and fun and dynamic and memorable. i love it
The thing I love about concrete is that at first, it shocks you with the switch up, but you soon put the pieces together when you have the context of the chorus.

While the song def grew on me with a few listens, I still think, a year later, that it’s among the worst on the album imo.
i think the ending is supposed to be a reference to the lyric “stop the beat when i take it too far” or something like that. as she “goes too far,” and the music starts to build in intensity the entire song stops abruptly
I actually really liked it
it's my (maybe 2nd or 3rd lol) favourite 😭
The editing matches how I feel listening to all this lmfao. I love this album dearly, so glad you're reacting to it
Why doesn't this have WAY more views? This is sooo amazingly edited by Corgi! One of the best edited and thereby most entertaining Brad reactions!!
It’s worth giving her previous album, Am I A Girl?, a listen too. Completely different direction to this but I loved it even more.
Is an amazing album!!!
What a coincidence. This is my most streamed album as of right now. It's a 10/10 for me and I hope you like it.
10/10 for sure
The post chorus of Fill the Crown sounds weird because it can be played backwards to say 'Everyone with the mark will live,' you have to watch the music video to understand it
The editing in this video is amazing: "Cause that's how bad my memory is" (Care Taker background) 1:12 Gold!

Biiiiiiig agree! Such a crazy record
This would be an incredible reaction
YESS
Eh, the second half kind of mellows out and I'm not sure how well he'd take to that with the hype of the first few tracks.
Fill the crown is probably my second favorite song on the album it’s a banger IMO but yeah reaction is epic love the editing cant wait for part 2!
This album is a 10/10.
One of the freshest albums of 2020.

When he showed the Everywhere At The End of Time cover... Holy shit
It's so clear how much passion Brad has for his videos. Great video, Brad!
Just here to show my appreciation for Corgi’s amazing editing! ❤️
This album really builds into the mythology of “Poppy”. It’s the story of her breaking from the A.I. popstar persona into a sentient being.
Corgi did a great job, it really was some Brad worthy editing
As always, great work man.
Omg i've been waiting a LOT for this. Ily
The little Everything at the End of Time reference was cool.

They're called muse, lol
Why would you ever want Brad to react to Weezer? A rush off blood to the black hole is awful.
The song Creep by Muse from the album A rush of blood to the head is my all time fav song
Well, based on her recent Grammys performance, I'm guessing she's gonna give us the new Dillinger Escape Plan album we all needed.
