    Hello Trevor this is a cool effect and there are some queries to start have you seen a method of using a whet stone with a grinding tool to give a beveled edge or circle swirls to panels? With this method could you do that by pivoting the steel wool in a circle also by using other transparent colours to give a heat treatment or holographic appeal. Any thoughts info is greatly appreciated stay safe from the great white north

      Hey Rob! I've not seen the particular method you described, but I believe you're talking (in part anyway) about a machine turned effect. There is a method to pull off a faux machine turned effect that I've used over the years, but the process is very different compared to what I demonstrated in the brushed aluminum video. I'll produce a video in the future that shows how to do the machine turned effect as well. Just fyi, I don't currently have some of the paint I need in stock for that particular effect and it's currently too cold in the lower 48 to order paint (and if it's cold down here, I can only imagine how cold it is up north). So, it will likely be a little while before I can make the video but it has been added to my list.

    Nice work buddy, when you say "any" silver, if I were to do this exact print, I only have the createx silver pearl, funds won't allow me to do another "silver" at the moment, would it work properly? And, do you know the size of the flake in the pearl?

    • @wickedartstudio
      @wickedartstudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Dennis! I've actually never used a pearl silver for this effect. So, I can't speak from experience, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work. The pearl will likely overpower the brushed effect from certain angles under good lighting just like the heavy flakes in the silver sealer demonstrated in the video, but it should work fine in theory. I don't know what size flake Createx uses in any of their products specifically; however, I'm pretty sure the pearl powder Createx uses is a standard size for the industry.

    Im wondering if you dragged fine sandpaper like 600 up & down changing the paper frequently as not to clog up the paper up with paint if you'd get a better brushed lines look? the steel wool or pad doesn't seem to leave a good groove for paint...but steel wool afterwards to smooth then clear...just a thought.

    • @wickedartstudio
      @wickedartstudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jeff! 600 grit is a bit too fine in my opinion. There is another method I use to create a faux brushed aluminum finish that looks even better. I'll create a video sharing that process a well at some point.

    What is your thought on using this method on actual bare aluminum. Brushing the 1st step into the bare metal, then using the black to pull some of the "Shiney new brushed aluminum" look out of it, almost giving it some age, so to speak.

    • @wickedartstudio
      @wickedartstudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't see why that wouldn't work. The main concern I would have is to make sure the aluminum is very clean before and after the first step for the best adhesion.

    hey trev , can a guy used white n one or two drops of black n maybe couple shot of blue..light blue to make silver ?? thanks

    • @wickedartstudio
      @wickedartstudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Dale! Unfortunately, it's not that simple. A good silver is pretty difficult to mix from scratch. Mixing white with a drop or two of black and a little bit of blue will create a nice cooler shade of gray, but it's still a ways off from a true silver. You could add some dry flake to the mix which would bring it closer, but you're still going to be more on the metallic gray side compared to a true silver. The reality is, silver is one of those colors grouped with the three primary colors - they need to be purchased.

    Could this method work as a engine turning effect?

    • @wickedartstudio
      @wickedartstudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      It could, but the effect wouldn't be as dramatic. There's a better method and paint to use for engine turning.

    Great vid...what coarse steelwool?

    • @wickedartstudio
      @wickedartstudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Realistically, any of them will work. In the end, it will really depend on what you think looks the best. Personally, I prefer coarse most of the time. Sometimes I'll use both coarse and fine on the same panel.

    Can you do this to a rifle barrel??

    • @wickedartstudio
      @wickedartstudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can. The durability would depend on how much the rifle is fired and the heat generated in the barrel when it's being fired.
