Also, I don't recommend imgur if you will be publishing the obsidian content as a blog, as imgur will not show image if you go over imgur's bandwidth limit.

For some reason the images are not showing. ![Imgur](gallery) shows an empty box. After further investigation, I noticed that the copy image link with the markdown doesn't include the png extension and the link body is different.
It's a nice solution. And the plugin looks great. One of the reasons I use Obsidian, is that everything is local. Even if i have 800 Mb/s internet, I want both my texts and my files to be local. So I don't want to use a cloud service like imgur to store the images. It breaks the principle of local access. I save images in a dropbox folder, give them proper names and drag them into Obsidian. Even with thousands of images, my vault is still only a few GB, which I easily can store both locally, in the cloud or on a drive/memory stick.
Interesting take on it. I guess I don't find myself needing images when I don't have internet access. I'm curios though do you store your Obsidian vault inside Dropbox? If so is there any reason why you have your images in another location id Dropbox rather than in your Obsidian vault "image attachments" folder?
Hey Santi Thank you so much for your excellent video and step by step explanation. I have one question left, and that is, before i was able to resize the image by writing ![[........png|300]] in order to make the picture smaller, if i didn't need to see any details. is there a possibility to do it with the imgur method aswell? I personally now use obsidian sync and it works great to sync across devices while keeping all of my data encrypted
Thank you! This is very helpful. Btw, do you know how to resize the image uploaded to Imgur? Sometimes the image loads in Obsidian but is either too small or too large..
Hi @Mvermouth. If you put your cursor on imgur markdown fragment and open Command Palette (Ctrl/Cmd+P), you will find commands to resize the image by using Imgur thumbnails. Also, you can resize the image to any size by using the following syntax: ![image|100](i.imgur.com/L1FoYS5.jpg)
yeah, but it's a bit different, easy way would be to have your obsidian vault inside of google drive. other way would be to upload files to google drive and then link them in obsidian
How did you paste an image from the internet and automatically saved it in a specific folder in your vault? When I do this it just paste the link of that image that I copied.
so the first action you described (image saved to folder) is the default Obsidian behavior when the imgur plugin is turned off. If the plugin is off, just make sure that you copy the image instead of the image's address. You can usually test that by dragging and dropping into Obsidian, or by right clicking an image online and selecting "copy image" Hope that helps, let me know if you managed to solve it
@@SantiYounger When I drag an image (or even click on copy image) from Safari into Obsidian it just places it in the note as a link. It only pastes it as an image (and automatically copy it to my Attachment folder) if I only copy/drag an image from my local hard drives. So far and for now at least, I have solved the issue with using the Obsidian plugin "Local Images", which searches the active note I'm editing and look for any images with external links, then download it to the Attachments folder and automatically update the path in the active note. It does also support a few commands to check and update all images in my current Vault. As I mainly use my Vault for my Uni study, so having all images saved in my iCloud is more convenient and secure than saving a few GBs on my iCloud capacity.
Can I just press Win + Shift + S and next paste the image, Into the APP Soon as I do that, Can I put the date it was taken The image will looks how I screenshot it just say, YT thumbnail
@@SantiYounger During this morning it has fallen and the plugin did not work, now it works again! This plugin is very key, full image functionability for almost zero overload in my vault, thanks for discovering it to me. You are one of the best Obsidian video creators!! Good luck. Thanks for answering.
Hi Santi, Is it possible to copy paste an image on the right and be able to write on the left of it. That is something that you are capable to do in Notion but I cannot get my head around to do that in Obsidian. Any tips?
Does anybody have a fix for the blurriness of embedded images? Mine always look worse than the originals viewed in Photos on Windows for example. It's a huge downside for me since I'm heavily reliant on importing paper notes. I checked multiple times, it's also noticeable when i open the image Obsidian's "Open in default app" function (and it is still the same file that is in my obsidian folder and recognized as JPEG by Obsidian). I have found some people talking about this on the forums, not a single dev really addressed this issue.
Hey, I haven't noticed a loss of quality personally but it's possible. Like you already tried the Obsidian official forum is a good place to ask for help in stuff like this. If you are willing to explain it there again, I honestly think they might have been confused by the term "blurry" since what you are describing is probably "loss of quality through compression" that term night make it clearer. Beyond that, I haven't noticed this compression myself. But you could move the files to the Obsidian vault manually (outside of Obsidian) through the Windows file manager, and then embed those images where needed. If that still gives you loss of quality there's a chance a theme or plugin might be causing conflicts perhaps Its hard to tell how to do solve it, but hopefully those ideas help
@@SantiYounger thanks for the detailed reply! I actually embedded the images directly from Obsidian Vault and didn't have any plugins installed while also using the standard theme. I talked to someone on the Obsidian community discord though, he showed me how to properly resize the images and if I put them at size 2000 for example, it is a lot less noticeable. Obsidian truly has a great community behind it! The guy who helped me also mentioned that the effect might occur due to having a high res photo displayed at a smaller scale on a screen where there are not enough pixels available to portray it in its high quality form. The scaling workaround is great though and I'm happy to continue using Obsidian to organize my next semester :) Have a great day!
@@andme-cf7kj Great, happy to hear you found a solution! that explanation makes total sense, and that fix is quite clever too! glad you can keep using Obsidian best of luck with it, feel free to reach out if you need any help santiyounger.com/contact
I'm not actually sure what "accessed" means (as in, won't be deleted if it's accessed every 10 years). If it's viewed in my Obsidian note, does that count as accessed? Or does it have to be visited on the imgur website? Thanks for the cool plugin!
that's a great question, I had this same concern and I'm not 100% sure about it to be honest. Perhaps the creator of the plugin might be able to answer this, since I havn't been able to find the answer my self Sorry I can't be of more help!
I'm so excited for the Logseq refactoring, they'll be improving it so much in the next month or so! At this point I'm using 50% Obsidian 50% Logseq for note-taking and journaling
Can you tell me how to resize the image? I found a thread on how to do this, but when I try to paste {width=x%} it moves it after the picture or it messes up the code
you do it like this ![[image.png|100x100]] or like this if it's a link (like the ones this plugin generates) ![ |100x100](url/to/image.png) there's more info here if you need it help.obsidian.md/How+to/Embed+files Hpe that helps!
hey, thanks for your great question. I had a recent question about this and this is what I replied: I don't think you should worry too much. The thing with the Obsidian community plugins is that they are made by other people (meaning, not the original creators of Obsidian) so they just caution users to be careful. Don't worry with these plugins your data isn't being stolen. There is a small chance of someone with bad intentions to create a plugin that steals data, these plugin's code's are watched by smart people, so if there was such as case I'm sure it would be reported and that plugin removed. I haven't heard of any cases like this, the worst thing you should keep an eye for is plugins that might still be in development and accidently delete something in your notes, but if you do some sort of backups (even manually copy pasting your notes into a backup folder) then you should be fine Hope that help!
that's true, this is a solution I personally use to free up space, and to easily see this images in other apps without worrying about file location. But you are right, if you do want to future-proof your images, then local storage for images is the way to go. In my case I don't need to permanently store every image I use. thanks for watching
hey awesome question. there's a guy in the Discord community by the name @deathau, he is great with CSS code, he invented a way to add an image as background, message him to ask him how Hope that helps
Shame about the image stuff i would have liked to use it for Root cause analysis for my job but with images so this is going to be too much of a hassle. Might still be possible to do it for Let's say computer trouble shooting in which you don't need images on everything imo.
what happened is that the new live preview (the new default view of Obsidian) this plugin doesn't work yet. I'll see if I can find an alternative solution
I get you, this is not for people that: 1. always have enough storage. 2. Don't need to quickly sync accross devices 3. need to access notes without internet this is more for those that: 1. have limited storage, and need to keep thir folder lightweigh 2. access their notes from several decives 3. always have access to internet Hope that helps
The whole idea of images in folder is that everything is self contained in one folder. Why not use Google drive which is 25 gb storage? Imgur will die one day leaving tons of people hanging. Google drive on the other side, won't.
@@speakingfreely6770 ahh okay I know what you mean, yeah it's not a bad idea, when I made this video I was using free Dropbox which only has 2gb for free, but if you have more space and you prefer it that way then that's great too. Another advantage to this method is that by uploading to imgur that image it esier to share and use across several apps
Correct. The only worry I have is imgur will start charging one day. Files on Google drive can still be shared with other apps and with Google I have the peace of mind that I have 25 gb free and am not going to be charged for it. But you are correct, either solution has its pros and cons.
@@speakingfreely6770 yeah you are right it's hard to perdict what's the better long term solution. Like you said, they can both work, go for the one you feel more comfortable with for sure

It's pronounced "imager"
because "imgr" is a disemvowelment (when you remove vowels from a word) of "imager"
Also there is a tool online called BIRME that allows you to resize images in bulk
can you do the same but with google drive?
yeah, but it's a bit different, easy way would be to have your obsidian vault inside of google drive.
other way would be to upload files to google drive and then link them in obsidian
You can usually test that by dragging and dropping into Obsidian, or by right clicking an image online and selecting "copy image"
Hope that helps, let me know if you managed to solve it
@@SantiYounger
When I drag an image (or even click on copy image) from Safari into Obsidian it just places it in the note as a link.
Excelente consejo, ¡gracias!
con gusto! gracias por el apoyo
Can I just press Win + Shift + S and next paste the image, Into the APP
Soon as I do that, Can I put the date it was taken
The image will looks how I screenshot it just say, YT thumbnail
seems like imgur is not available in our country
that's annoying sorry to hear that, does a VPN work for you?
Thank you
my pleasure, happy to help
Thanks for this trick!
my pleasure, happy to help!
Do you know of any method for videos like this
How can we edit images after edit
Funciona! It works! :) ty
happy to hear that, un abrazo!
Someone can confirm if this just broke?
Nice vid btw.
Thanks, is the imgur plugin not working for you?
@@SantiYounger During this morning it has fallen and the plugin did not work, now it works again!
This plugin is very key, full image functionability for almost zero overload in my vault, thanks for discovering it to me.
You are one of the best Obsidian video creators!! Good luck.
Thanks for answering.
@@marcoslli4211 Great to know it's working now! I agree, I use this plugin all the time. Thanks for your kind words.
How to add a image title?
If that still gives you loss of quality there's a chance a theme or plugin might be causing conflicts perhaps
Its hard to tell how to do solve it, but hopefully those ideas help
It's not available in mobile devices :(
I'm not actually sure what "accessed" means (as in, won't be deleted if it's accessed every 10 years). If it's viewed in my Obsidian note, does that count as accessed? Or does it have to be visited on the imgur website?
Thanks for the cool plugin!
that's a great question, I had this same concern and I'm not 100% sure about it to be honest. Perhaps the creator of the plugin might be able to answer this, since I havn't been able to find the answer my self
Sorry I can't be of more help!
It was working fine but all of a sudden i get this
Can anyone help me with this?
Hi! Just upgrade the plugin and follow the instructions on plugin's settings tab. You will need to get your own Client ID now
And here I am thinking of @ing you about how I am trying out LogSeq properly XD
I'm so excited for the Logseq refactoring, they'll be improving it so much in the next month or so! At this point I'm using 50% Obsidian 50% Logseq for note-taking and journaling
@@SantiYounger oh🤔 i need to checkout that feature!
Can you tell me how to resize the image? I found a thread on how to do this, but when I try to paste {width=x%} it moves it after the picture or it messes up the code
you do it like this
![[image.png|100x100]]
or like this if it's a link (like the ones this plugin generates)
![ |100x100](url/to/image.png)
there's more info here if you need it help.obsidian.md/How+to/Embed+files
Hpe that helps!
This looks great. However, this plug-in does not support mobile.
yeah I really wish it did too
If you use it on desktop does the image show up on mobile at least?
@@JoeF480 I would think that if your image is on Imgur and the link is correct, the image should still show up on mobile. Test it out and let us know.
@@phinsxiii Works! Thanks!
is it safe to use this plugin?
like has anyone checked the code?
hey, thanks for your great question. I had a recent question about this and this is what I replied:
I don't think you should worry too much.
I haven't heard of any cases like this, the worst thing you should keep an eye for is plugins that might still be in development and accidently delete something in your notes, but if you do some sort of backups (even manually copy pasting your notes into a backup folder) then you should be fine
Hope that help!
Imgur method is not evergreen
that's true, this is a solution I personally use to free up space, and to easily see this images in other apps without worrying about file location. But you are right, if you do want to future-proof your images, then local storage for images is the way to go.
In my case I don't need to permanently store every image I use.
thanks for watching
I don't know if this is a thing, but can you put an image as the background in obsidian.
hey awesome question. there's a guy in the Discord community by the name @deathau, he is great with CSS code, he invented a way to add an image as background, message him to ask him how
Hope that helps
@@SantiYounger Thank you
Shame about the image stuff i would have liked to use it for Root cause analysis for my job but with images so this is going to be too much of a hassle.
Might still be possible to do it for Let's say computer trouble shooting in which you don't need images on everything imo.
what do you mean? it still work on the editor window, but unfotutately not yet on the live preview. I'm not sure if that's what you meant though
anyone in 2022 whose imgur stopped working?
what happened is that the new live preview (the new default view of Obsidian) this plugin doesn't work yet. I'll see if I can find an alternative solution
@@SantiYounger okay, thanks!
🤔IMGUR doesn´t accept folks from Finland...
that's annoying, how about using a VPN?
Kinda defeats the purpose of the plaintext/markdown nature
I get you, this is not for people that:
1. always have enough storage.
2. Don't need to quickly sync accross devices
3. need to access notes without internet
this is more for those that:
1. have limited storage, and need to keep thir folder lightweigh
2. access their notes from several decives
3. always have access to internet
Hope that helps
The whole idea of images in folder is that everything is self contained in one folder. Why not use Google drive which is 25 gb storage? Imgur will die one day leaving tons of people hanging. Google drive on the other side, won't.
uploading to google drive and embedding to Obsidian sounds like an annoying process personally. But you do make a good point, not a bad idea at all
@@SantiYounger No, actually I meant keeping your whole vault in Google drive and let Obsedian manage files likes it does. wouldn't that be easier?
Imgur is pronounced "Imager".
thanks, I tried to search correct pronunciation for it but wasn't sure, thanks for the tip
