    In case anyone cares:
    2000 shop manual indicates the following torque specs -
    Front shock lower bolts = 17 lbs
    Front shock upper bolt = 16 lbs
    Rear shock lower bolt = 46 lbs
    Rear shock upper bolts = 17 lbs

    I just used a vice to push one end of the top mounting pin thru the bush untiil it was flush with the bush, then pulled the boot on, then back in the vice to centre the mounting pin again. Took less then 5 minutes

    never seen an XJ with the rear upper shock nuts intact! always end up knocking the nuts out with an air hammer when the bolts break, or the nut weld snaps and I have to cut the bolt.
    One time I really took my time and heating and cooled the bolts with PB blaster and worked then back and forth. Still freaking broke. so now I just bust them off immediately. atleast the Jeep engineers left plenty of room for a wrench on top (unlike those leaf spring bolts!)

    • @sriles1676
      @sriles1676 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dealing with this now. The bolt going up into the welded nut snapped. I couldn't hammer it up from below, so I drilled out the bolt. Planning to tap the hole I drilled, but wondering if I should think about trying to knock the weld nut out from the side or something?

    At 10:50 you bolt the bottom part back on, but on my particular shock their are multiple options for what looks like a bushing within the rubber part of the rear shock. Do you use one of those bushings? Take it out? Use a different one?

    Gotta question, I just did a 4.5 lift on my 1996 XJ and it hasn't even been a good year and I'm already experiencing tire cupping on new tires, could it be the new shocks that I installed with the lift kit? I say this because I noticed that when you were installing the front shocks they didn't have any movement in them going up into the wheel well.

      Cover shock with soft hand soap boot slides right up bottom side ...flush shock with warm water to remove soap then dry, Works fast has hell and no stretching....And since they get wet anyway it wont harm anything....

    • @Zachb002
      @Zachb002 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's easy man don't try drilling them they r a waste of time. Get a bar that's a little smaller than the bolt and hit it with a 3 pound hammer and the back nut that's welded on just comes right off. Then reach in there and put the new nut in place and the shock and put the bolt through
