If I didn't stress it in the video, ALWAYS try to put a gradient on your dragon! It makes it look so much better! Did you like the editing in this video?
@bella to be fair, you shouldn’t always try to put gradients. in some cases, it won’t really work, in some other cases it would be just fine. the times you’d be using gradients depend on the main colors, and if they work with the other colors, in a way it won’t really contrast. for example, we have a darkwing with a night blue base, and you decided to put a gradient of it for the legs. however, you might be putting other colors like green and yellow, maybe even others like white. this expands the color palette drastically, and if you do have a big palette, it might not work together to create a dragon. in all, don’t always try to use gradients; and limit the use of it when you can, don’t put too many, or just too little, it would all however depend on the vibe you’re trying to give off.

It's good to identify the different color systems you can apply to the dragons that involve color theory (which is the way colors work with each other). The main system you talked about with the first dragon (rainwing) is a color system called complimentary (taking two colors that are at opposite sides of the color wheel like violet and yellow). However, there are many other color systems as well such as analogous (using three colors in a row on the color wheel like green, blue-green, and blue or violet, red-violet, and red). There is also the triad system which uses either all the primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) or all the secondary colors (orange, green, and purple) however the triad systems are better to use when there's more shading involved so blending the colors together is easier. It's not recommended for the coloring style of the game (but it's a good challenge to try out sometime!). There's also the monotone system which uses one color and black and white for shading and tints (shades are made mixing black and the color, tints are made mixing whites and the color). I think the monotone system works best when making dragons that mainly use gradients (usually the dragon types besides rainwings would use that color system the most and the game rightly guides you in that direction). There's one more color system I can name off the top of my head, which is split complimentary. Similar to complimentary, you are choosing colors from opposite sides of the color wheel. However, you wont be choosing violet and yellow (as given in the earlier example for complimentary). Instead you will take on of the colors from the complimentary pair (let's say yellow) and we'll be using either colors on either side of its compliment (since violet is yellow's compliment, we'd be using red-violet and blue-violet as its split-compliment because those two colors are on either side of violet). I understand it may be difficult to create tertiary colors in the games though- I hoped this helps and gave you guys more ideas on how to color your dragons! :DD If I didn't explain something as well as I could've please let me know! or you can google the color systems too if I'm slow to answer ^^
I have a character that can shapeshift (He really only uses it to access places other dragon tribes can't. Like the Ocean, or the Rain forest, etc. He also uses it so he can study the tribes so he doesn't get weird looks or try to get killed. The form he uses for fighting/defence is a RainWing.), and i just mainly try to make the whatever tribe I'm making look like a different tribe. (Like RainWing looks like a SeaWing, and a SeaWing looks like a RainWing.) Lots of these tips will help me improve the designs in general. (The NightWing is the only dragon that looks like it's tribe because well, it's a NightWing. You can't make it thise bright vibrant colors that a SandWing has now can you?)
Thanks, this helps a lot! About an hour ago I decided to start making a rainwing oc on my phone and it looked pretty cool, the main was purple with a yellowish-white underbelly and some nice gradient on the tail, and the head and wings were a dark brownish shade of red and it looked really good. I was SO CLOSE to being done when my stupid clumsy fingers accidentally tapped the scales coloring thing and ruined all my work and gradients. So I panicked and tried to fix it, but in my despair and panic I accidentally tapped the head color thing AND the underscales coloring button and ruined both of those and I gave up. I fucking hate mobile and this was my story. Also any warrior cat fans here?

I just wanna say, I’d rather see a dragon with “ugly” colours than one COVERED in gradients. It does look good yes, but sometimes for me at least it seems unoriginal when people just have a grey to white gradient or a gradient on their whole dragon with the darkest colour being at their torso. (I have done this before but mainly because it’s fun to make and the end result is cool, but I never keep those characters.) There is so many pieces you can colour so even picking 3 main colours and dotting gradients in the places it make sense then making up your own pattern creates a unique and cool dragon! Sometimes it helps to think of the character first, then design the dragon based on the characters personality. (The other annoying thing I see is when people make a checkered pattern on rainwings tails, it’s cool but not unique because I’ve seen lots of people do it.) I’m gonna stop myself from rambling but just remember there is so many pieces of the dragon you can colour so pick two or three main colours and place them wherever looks the best! It’s your dragon!
ive based my dragons on their personality before...like i have a rainwing named vivid that usually has bright vivid colors...but it doesnt look bad like most rainbow rainwing eyesores..
So essentially character design? Seems super fun!! Honestly I saw the WOF roblox server on my friends game and really wanted to try it out, lol, and knowing you can customize dragons so extensively seems very fun!
All my ocs: Skyleaf: leafwing/skywing Mesa:mudwing princess Dust storm: sandwing animus Planetwatcher: nightwing Hurricane:seawing Hornet:rainwing/hivewing Am u missung any dragon tribes that are in game at the time???
The only reson my first oc in Wings of Fire looked good is because i learned to not make it bright and weird like my first ever actual person oc. Also adding the fact that i like matching colors instead of just making it one color
Wh- there was an ad that said "go ahead and skip this ad if you don't like sea turtles, whales, or dolphins" and now I'm conflicted because I LOVE sea turtles, whales, and dolphins but I DESPISE ads... :'(
I remember when there were winglets and the Mudwings were unlocked, though I never played as the Mudwings cause I thought they sounded weird and I didn’t understand these “winglets”. I’m now very sad because I can’t play as a Mudwing anymore, but I am exited to see the new Mudwing!
And when your OC *is* supposed to look like a «rainbow vomiting randomly awfully in paint spot who make you want to wash it with javel?» (It's a writen roleplay OC. But it is supposed to look awful, "I'm gotta shot laser" and overcolored)
Thanks for this, I'll keep this in mind when I rp with a Wings of Fire dragon and can I just say how I love that you added Minecraft music to the video? TH-camr of gamer culture
vibin to mc music But seriously, I've been designing OCS by just choosing colors and patterns that LOOK good for years and it's really fascinating how much science there is behind what looks good and what doesn't. Edit: Your RainWing OC killed Darkstalker, I ship it
My Rainwing Before The Video: RaINBow FrEAk My Rainwing After The Video: A Beautiful Blue Gradient Now time to work on meh skywing to make it look good with da new armour Tip for skywing gradient (If u doing it red) Start with a dark red at the tail and make it brighter when u move up :D
for the rainwing eye problem, there is a little space there where you can color it individually, usually i just spam click it but it's near the back and bottom of the eye.
Popping in to say that if your making a faded underbelly for any dragon start with a light base and fade with a darker color or the color you intend any color close to white will work for this one for a light fade start with a dark base or if its a bright fade dark bases will very very much help you. (if you see this and decide to use this idea good job you made your coloring a lot easier, well done)
The OC I'm proudest of is my Sand wing named Mirage. She has very pale yellow scales that fade to gold at the wings, tail, and feet. Her wings, underbelly, and sail are all a dark tan, which fades to almost white on the underbelly. She also has multiple bracelets, rings, and a necklace as part of her personality is she likes jewelry.
I only have one rainwing Oc on this game and honestly I cannot express how long it took me to color him. His name is Tapir and so I used like- green- fading to brown- to green again, with some white in between. It's hard to explain but I have never been prouder with an end product, as much as I'm proud of Tapir uwu Edit: I now have a second Rainwing named Bromeliad who fades with some pink into yellow, with some orange bits and a pink-yellow striped tail. She also took a long time and is based off of a Bromeliad flower (obviously).
Personally, I don't like using hot and cold colors together too often. I usually stick with cold colors together, or hot colors together. (Ex.:Red & Yellow; Blue & Purple). If I use a hot color like such, I wouldn't (again, this is JUSt me) use it too much. I also stick with 2,3, or 4 colors, 4 being the most. Also, I've seen a few epic looking rainbow Rainwings in-game. If you decide to make a rainbow Rainwing, try to stay with a little darker shades (not too dark, maybe in the middle or slightly above).

This video is hilarious AND helpful. Thanks for making my day! :3 I've already rewatched it like... five times... XD
Roleplayers: half breed or light and dark
You: simple colors
Them: my nightmares
0:51 OMG THE DRAGON FLYING THROUGH THE TREES IS ME
Nice
Lol really?
Thank you for making this, teaching the children to not make dragons that make other’s eyes bleed.
So essentially character design? Seems super fun!! Honestly I saw the WOF roblox server on my friends game and really wanted to try it out, lol, and knowing you can customize dragons so extensively seems very fun!
All my ocs:
Skyleaf: leafwing/skywing
Mesa:mudwing princess
Dust storm: sandwing animus
Planetwatcher: nightwing
Hurricane:seawing
Hornet:rainwing/hivewing
Am u missung any dragon tribes that are in game at the time???
Hmm..ice wing my friend.
Julianna Partida this came out before the icewings
I don’t have the game on ROBLOX but I freaking loved this video, very helpful :)
The only reson my first oc in Wings of Fire looked good is because i learned to not make it bright and weird like my first ever actual person oc. Also adding the fact that i like matching colors instead of just making it one color
Haha thx. I actually told some people to watch this video this also kind of helped me I love this video keep up the good work
When this game does come out for free and on mobile. I think I'll just use the description off of me and my friend's OC masterlist.
Nightshade Studios it was said to come out for free once they finished everything.
Tigercookie 123
I know. And actually I was able to get it
Everyone: **following the instructions or getting angry at bella**
Me: **looking at the jade mountain singlet board and getting exited**
I love how your using minecraft music.
furret *walcc* theme
Great tips! I already do some of these, but some things I haven’t even noticed! Then Again, I’ve only custom-colored with the paint tool 2 dragons.
Question- how do you rotate the dragon in the edit thingy- I cant figure it out- I'm on a laptop btw-
The fact that you can hear the WoF theme music in the back ground is fascinating….
Wh- there was an ad that said "go ahead and skip this ad if you don't like sea turtles, whales, or dolphins" and now I'm conflicted because I LOVE sea turtles, whales, and dolphins but I DESPISE ads... :'(
The ads just do that to get your attention
Shiny Pie
Ik but aaaaaahg
Why do those ads have to be so cruel!? XD
I remember when there were winglets and the Mudwings were unlocked, though I never played as the Mudwings cause I thought they sounded weird and I didn’t understand these “winglets”. I’m now very sad because I can’t play as a Mudwing anymore, but I am exited to see the new Mudwing!
Every server I join it’s queen, princess, and king mayhem time.
I was just kind of Vibing to the Minecraft music, it’s pretty chill and I liked the video! Keep making stuff like this!
XD

Too bad there's already armor in the game now
I'm so excited for this game to come out! I don't have any robux so I can't pay for early access or whatever but I look forward to it!
And when your OC *is* supposed to look like a «rainbow vomiting randomly awfully in paint spot who make you want to wash it with javel?»
(It's a writen roleplay OC. But it is supposed to look awful, "I'm gotta shot laser" and overcolored)
Welp the rainbow monster is actually the way my fan tribe is supposed to look😳😳😳
Dam this needs an updated version lmao
Thanks for this, I'll keep this in mind when I rp with a Wings of Fire dragon and can I just say how I love that you added Minecraft music to the video? TH-camr of gamer culture
The worst part is that she actually spent time making the “Rainbow Monstrosity.”
I always add a fade to my OCs its my number one rule
Its a nice touch to the OC you make and really brings out the color in the oc
I’m glad I made a good looking RainWings OC before they made the colors duller. Now I have a rare dragon >:3
vibin to mc music
But seriously, I've been designing OCS by just choosing colors and patterns that LOOK good for years and it's really fascinating how much science there is behind what looks good and what doesn't.
Edit: Your RainWing OC killed Darkstalker, I ship it
Can you make hybrids in the game??
Hibiscus you can roleplay as them, but there will never by hybrids in the game. Too many combos
@@Bellasaurus that's sad
@@Bellasaurus ye bc if i was able to play Roblox again i wanted to make my Rain-Mud hybrid. but oopsie doopsie i can
My Rainwing Before The Video: RaINBow FrEAk
My Rainwing After The Video: A Beautiful Blue Gradient
Now time to work on meh skywing to make it look good with da new armour
Tip for skywing gradient (If u doing it red) Start with a dark red at the tail and make it brighter when u move up :D
thank you, everyone needed this video. my eyes no longer burn as much as they did then.
Am I the only one who gets angry when I see Steven universe roleplayers in a wings of fire game?
Bella:giving a tut
Me:jamming to the Minecraft music
0:32 I’m dead XD
alternate title: "How to not be a menace to society, but don't get too excited because i can only fix your looks"
but mobile -
Painting normally on the dragon: calm
Using the paint tool: b o n k e r s
I found this extremely useful! I will definitely use this advice on my dragons :)
Dragon: *Intense stare*
Me: What are you lookin at?
Dragon: *Eye lasers*
The nostalgia i get from looking at the old customization area 😊
for the rainwing eye problem, there is a little space there where you can color it individually, usually i just spam click it but it's near the back and bottom of the eye.
*The Winglets just gave me old game war flashbacks*
Remember to not go nuts with the gradients, otherwise you'll come out looking like a character from a Flash animation on Newgrounds
instructions unclear. my dragon is now a black void.
Your rain wing reminds me of Christmas, which goes well with the music. Plus I would like to point out that Christmas is in 30 something days!
Everyone who knows what the music is from is a true gamer
I know what its from, I liston to it all the time on the game X3
Popping in to say that if your making a faded underbelly for any dragon start with a light base and fade with a darker color or the color you intend any color close to white will work for this one
for a light fade start with a dark base or if its a bright fade dark bases will very very much help you.
(if you see this and decide to use this idea good job you made your coloring a lot easier, well done)
My Rainwing, Pineapple, looks great bc of you!! :D :p
thank you so much for this! my oc's look a lot better now, some people are actually complimenting them!
I clicked on this video and by the music I knew I was staying no matter what. If you can’t tell I. Love. Pokémon
Pokemon Trainer DC yes, I see the dark umbrella dog-cat.
Usually when I’m playing this game, I’m like tempted to make a fade on the tail 😅
Bella........look what you’ve done you made everyone. Look like that even meeeee * shoots eye lazers *
Thanks! The head coloring tips helped. That is always where I am stuck! Thank you.
this is how many people love Bellasaurus

It’s so cool that we will have ALL of this in the future!!!!!
I only have one rainwing Oc on this game and honestly I cannot express how long it took me to color him. His name is Tapir and so I used like- green- fading to brown- to green again, with some white in between. It's hard to explain but I have never been prouder with an end product, as much as I'm proud of Tapir uwu
Edit: I now have a second Rainwing named Bromeliad who fades with some pink into yellow, with some orange bits and a pink-yellow striped tail. She also took a long time and is based off of a Bromeliad flower (obviously).
I. Want. To. See. Tapir.
Riley Harper for either you, or the other person, my Roblox User on the game is NootBear. If y’all have it and wanna friend me I’m down :D
0:21 lol, this has got to be a meme now.
