Great video!! Very useful! If you don't mind me saying, you could maybe add images of some of the places you're mentioning to give the audience a better idea of what you are describing and to make the video more interesting!
Hello Mike - I'm new to your channel and having just watched this video I got the impression you were now living in Samui... However I can only see videos and your services from Phuket.
The only reason I chose Phuket is because more people. Already Phuket feels small. So Samui feels extra small. But if you’re married and want to settle down the decision will be made by your wife : )
It looks like maybe from videos you moved back to Phuket. I am here now looking to go to Samui to check it out as my retirement home. Would love to chat with you and buy you dinner if you are close to kata
How about transportation? and walkability in Samui? We are a couple and not comfortable with bikes. So we need a place that is walkable to beach and grocery shopping. I know in Phuket Grab is more expensive than other parts of Thailand, however there is plenty of grab cars available. Do you know how easy it is in Samui to get a grab car and is it more expensive than Phuket? and overall is Samui walkable in most expat neighborhoods?
I have been living in Phuket for 6 years but i always loved my Holiday on Samui! I probably would choose Samui if i had to. The Costs of Living are about the same but Samui is much more relaxed.
Hi Mike I have been to both places, I Have had a good time in Phuket, but I love going to Samui Especially Lamai. I enjoy a layback holiday. When I go to Thailand I always go somewhere else for 1 week in Thailand and spend 3 weeks in Lamai Koh Samui. Normally do this every year hopefully I will be back this year. John Ginnivan
Hi Mike, arrived in Phuket October 1, 2021. Stayed my 7 days, got my reimbursement from hotel and 3rd test. Rented a car on our road trip. Waking up in Surat Thani this morning and the girl friend would like a stop over in Koh Sumui. I like a nice big lunch, only fruit in the evening. Any recommendations?
Very interesting! It's given me a half idea about doing the Samui sandbox instead of the Phuket one. What's the internet speed like in Koh Samui? Is it reliable? Thanks 😊
hello and thanks for video, i ask a little suggestion im about to go in thailand for the 1 time. 20 march till i guess middle of april. After bangkok, due to the weather also (im 35yo single guy) where should i go or maybe i can combine in some way : Phuket, Koh samui and Koh Phangan or head to koh chang ? all seems to be beautiful..
Actually, crime less happen in Koh Tao and Koh Phangan island compare to a big city and there barely have any big crime happen. But both well-known about brutal crimes because it happen with foreigners not locals.
The alchohol ban in restaurants in Phuket was lifted on October 1st. In Samui, certain restaurants have alchohol but they have to get a certificate that shows staff have been vacinated...so many places are just opting to not bother and serving beer in tea cups to avoid issues!
Nice video, thank you! A few questions I am hoping you can answer: 1) Which (or neither/both) is doable long-term for expats who speak only English?; 2) I understand that all of Koh Samui is ideal for peace and tranquility, but which areas of the Phuket do you recommend for those who enjoy peace and tranquility?; 3) Does Koh Samui also have a big buddha? Thanks!
Thanks for another informative vid, Mike. Can I ask: how did you manage to stay on Phuket for 9 years? I’m looking for about 1-2 years on Phuket, which options do you recommend? (Sorry you must be fed up with visa queries!)
Staying in Thailand long term is simple, as long as you have the right Visa. Over the years I've had work Visas, education Visas and tourist Visas. If you want to stay for couple of years, Education Visa would be a wise choice if you don't intend to get a job whilst in Thailand. Hope this helps buddy.
@@remote3652 We love Koh Phangan; Bottle Beach and also Thansadet had Mai Pen Rai bungalows! Phuket maybe has enough diversity to avoid island fever though, long term.
I've been to Thailand a few times and really fell in love with all of it. I'm 3 years out from retirement. I'll be 57 by then. Do you know what the laws are about owning property? Not condos but actual houses/villas. That kinda thing. Can we actually own houses?
I actually don't live in Samui anymore. I left in December. If you enjoy beautiful beaches, nature and good food then Samui is a good spot. Not the place if you want to party though. Phuket is better for nightlife etc.
We want to go to Koh Samui and search for a house , if you can help, thank you. we want to go to Koh Samui, because there is no problem with Tsunami. Live on Koh Samui many Germans? Have a good time and best wishes Siri and Uwe. We take Thailand to Germany.😜
It is a very nice video but unfortunately you haven't mentioned a situation with English in Koh Samui. On Phuket mostly I do not have problems with communication. Majority speaks a bit of English, some people know the language very well. Is it comfortable to communicate in English on Samui?

All excellent points! I've lived on both islands for about 6 months and Samui is definitely my favorite! Look forward to making it back there soon..
Look forward to meeting you in person soon mate!
Great informative break down. Subba dub dub!
I agree with you 100% on all the points you mentioned
I wish you a good luck
Best regards,
thanks for your video, just deciding between phuket and koh samui :)

Great and super informative video
Glad you liked it, thanks for the comment!
I have been to both islands and if I'm honest I love Koh Samui a lot more than I did in Phuket but Krabi/Ao Nang is awesome
Great sum up mate. Would be much nicer though with scenes of each place while u talk over that

Samui is not the party town that Phuket is anymore. Agreed
Kho samui its laid back place so chill.
I have visited both islands. You are spot on! We should talk!

good points!
Sounds about right.
Thanks again Mike! Just amazing video! May I ask you if you know I can go to koh samui sandbox flying to Phuket?
I believe the answer is yes, but please check with official sources/airlines.

what bank branches are available in Koh Samui?
All the big Thai banks have branches in Koh Samui.
Did you try Koh Phangan?
Yes, it's even quiter than Samui.
What’s the typical power outage frequency like in Koh Samui?
Occasionally during rainy season. But in general its not a problem.
Very interesting! It's given me a half idea about doing the Samui sandbox instead of the Phuket one. What's the internet speed like in Koh Samui? Is it reliable? Thanks 😊
Yes, you can get high speed Internet here in Samui 🙏🇹🇭
What about compare to Pattaya?
Nothing compares to Pattaya! 😅
Which island has friendlier locals?
Both places have very friendly locals.
Good vid.
A question: Is it possible to buy organic non gmo meat in phuket?
I would think so!

How is the internet and power outages between the two? Thanks!
Not a big issue on either island tbh. In rainy season, maybe couple times but not a regular occurrence tbh.
Samui - every time. We live in Lamai too
Great place!
whats about the stores of murdering in koh tao ??^ :/

Can you drink in resturants now?

Hey bud how's the internet there
@@remote3652 Phuket has great internet as does Thailand generally in the cities.
@@6789uiop thanks yeah I've been to Phuket few times. I was wondering about Koh Samui and ended up staying in Koh Phangan for few weeks.

I don't understand why someone from North America or even Europe would go all the way to Thailand when they could live in the Caribbean??
What's a typical day for you in Samui? Any issues with boredom or do you find things to do?

You'll get by just fine if you can't speak Thai. A lot if people speak English in both Phuket and Samui. 🙏🇹🇭
I've been going to Samui since '92 and it's getting better. Phuket was fine.
You are an immigrant, not an ex-pat.
What's the difference?
Thanks Karen
