  • Today we wanted to share a simple thing that has made it easy for us to work on and maintain our RV. We added this ladder to our RV tools and it has been better than I could have originally thought. This is better than our original ladder on the RV, so much better that we actually removed the ladder that was mounted on it.

I've got the same ladder and have used it many times, i love it! Yes, it does flex just a little bit, but you never feel unsafe because you can tell that it is made well. Mine came with a handy storage bag. Very versatile and easy to store away. Thanks for the video.

I have one of these type ladders an love it. In fact I ordered my TT without a rear ladder years ago. Gives a nice clean look in the rear especially without having bicycles hung on the permeant factory ladder which they are not designed for anyway. Great channel an keep up the good work.

I found a similar ladder at an estate sale. I used it to go on my 2nd story roof from the 1st story roof. I loved how compact it was to put out the window.

I have that ladder in the 12' version and its been a great tool. I store it in my front equipment bay. Its a little heavy but that can't be helped for how stout and well made it is.

Bungee cord some pool noodles to the poles of the ladder to prevent scratching your rv and bending your gutters. Cut the pool noodles length wise so they just wrap around the poles and bungee the top and bottom.

Buddy of mine had a very similar one and I used it to get up on top of our RV to replace a roof vent with a fan. Worked well enough I bought one myself. Super compact and i'm a big guy, I didn't feel like it was about to give out at any point.

We have something similar, but with front-facing latches. We got used to where not to put our hands when collapsing it pretty quickly. It's nice and solid and stores easily. It's funny that it's part of our next video after our solar upgrade one. Great minds think alike. Safe travels.

I use a similar ladder, without the rubber bumpers between the rungs and I really like it. I have a board wrapped with a microfiber towel velcroed to the top of the ladder that leans against the trailer tp prevent any scratching of the trailer.

I use one like that. Like it. I found it scratched the rain gutter around the roof, so I cut two 12” pieces of pool noodles and sliced long ways. They just slip on to the rungs that are touching the gutter. Also, I’ve kept mine outside sometimes and it’s gotten wet. Not good. It’s now very hard to close. I’ve sprayed with silicone but doesn’t work like it did when it was new. Anyway....great videos. Thanks for doing them.

Really like your videos Jared. I damaged our ladder and tried to replace it but the reinforced mounting areas did not match up. I was resigned to going through the dealer for a new one when I saw this video. Then I realized I didn’t really like the OEM ladder- the first step up was a doozy that surely would have injured me eventually. Just ordered this one and I’ll be patching the holes. Thanks again.

  • @TomLentz
    @TomLentz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Your links seem to go to the same product, but I have the one without the bumpers and really like it. The difference is that you don't have to collapse each rung individually. The downside is you HAVE to collapse them all at once. Bottom one goes, red levers on next rung up hit it and repeat. Each step is a "soft close" so you'd really have to try to get your fingers smashed. If you don't want to fully extend the collapsed section has to be on top.

I had purchased one of these ladders a few years ago. I think it expanded to 16 ft. However, due to the length the spacers were on the wrong side on the top half of the ladder. You had to step on those spacers on the top half of ladder. Just something to check out on the taller ladders like this.

Hi I have watched several of your videos and learn some thing new each time. I have a question that is not about electricity however I am putting it here. Our shower does not fit right next to the wall and therefore in the winter very cold air comes in and the shower itself is is very cold when you open the door and takes part of the hot water just to warm it up enough. In the summertime it becomes a HotBox since there is also a skylight on top of the shower. How would you recommend that we insulate or fill in the gap without causing of molding and such?

  • @thelonestarranger

One problem I have never seen addressed is the height from the ground to the bottom of the factory installed rooftop ladder. On my trailer, it is about four feet from the ground to the first rung of my ladder.I tried to find a ladder extension with no luck. I went online a found a two step ski boat collapsible ladder. I mounted this new ladder on the sewer hose storage bumper under the original ladder with stainless steel hardware to prevent rusting. When I need it, I just fold it down and extend the steps. Now I have two extra steps to get on top of the bumper where I can access the other ladder. After using, I fold up ladder, which collapses it inside itself, use supplied Velcro strap to hold in collapsed position, then use another Velcro strap to secure to bottom rung of trailer ladder to keep it from hanging below bumper where it could get damaged. I now no longer have to carry an extra ladder to get high enough to access the ladder to the top of my trailer, which is great!

FYI: The 12.5ft ladder is out of stock with no idea if and or when it might be again available on Amazon. The website of the seller Louis Ladders, now has a different name with it and these ladders aren’t shown as being for sale. Amazon does have the 10.5ft & 15.5ft still available. I suspect that when they’re gone, they’re gone. Amazon does sell other similar ladders.

I bought one like the one in your video. But after a year of use I replaced it with a collapsible A-Frame Multi-Position Ladder that I like better. With the type of ladder you're talking about, you can't use it for smaller jobs very well. Since we have a Class A, one of the more common jobs is washing the huge windshield. The style of ladder in this video is pretty useless for jobs like that. The collapsible "A-Frame" Multi-Position Ladder folds up small, can be set up as a short 3' A-Frame, a taller 6' A-Frame or totally unfolded to create a 13' Step Ladder. It's also 10 lbs lighter and sturdier overall. So, depending on how you want to use your ladder you might like the Multi-Position Ladder better.

Are you using the 10 foot 6 inch ladder? Does it reach the top of your RV? My 5th wheel is 13.5 feet tall so I'm thinking i need a taller one.

Nice video, but even nicer if you'd provide a link to the actual ladder you like. Or identify it, at least, lol.

We have had a similar one for about a year and it has been SO useful. With a 330 lbs capacity, it is very stable. We don't have an RV right now but I keep it in my master bedroom closet and can use it throughout the house without having to bang the walls bringing one in from the garage. When shopping for an RV, I have been debating using our telescoping ladder or holding out for a permanently installed one. Maybe I'll do both!
P.S. Both links are taking me to the same Amazon item. (ASIN: B01FUCCPPA)
