- The Torn and Restored Card Trick is a fun and creative take on the classic effect using newspaper or a napkin. This video will provides a performance as well as tutorial, so you too will able to do it! Make sure to practice in front of a mirror and do not flash any glimpses of the concealed card. Whether you sign the card or they do, put the sharpie in your pocket after the signing, and when you go to reveal it, peel off the restored card and hold it between your index finger and thumb as you reach into your pocket to grab your "magic sharpie" drop the pieces, pull out the marker and wave it over the card, give it a tap, or any other magic move you like, and voila, the pieces are gone and the card is restored. The early DL was obvious. It made the rest apparent, particularly because of the way the cards were unfolded preceding the tearing. "The Reformation" is a vastly better handling of this routine.

Calm down people. The reason you can see the card in his hand around 2:50 is because he's moving around and showing the card to the camera up close and then moving back and making extra motions. It's not like he revealed it by accident while actually doing the trick.

Suggestion bro,I think we can use misdirection to get away the torn pieces.Maybe pretend to get e.g a pen to wave above the card as magic happen hence dropping the pieces.How do u see that?

Interesting. I suspected there was a second card as it looked like a coworker was palming it. He takes it a step further, and uses a photo. Except when it's "restored," the torn edges are now the edges of the photo.
This may have been asked already but I just haven't gone through the comments tbh. How is this same trick done with a spectator signing the card? Could they just make a card swap and tear up a different card? Only thing with that is, I've seen some magicians show the signed card (with audience sig of course) ripped up into pieces, then restore it. How the heck do they do that? lol

fold both ways before ripping this will allow you to not flash and not have issues ripping the card...

You can get these just about anywhere: Costco, Fred Meyer, Target or if you are in an area that doesn't sell them: Amazon. You can also find some great trick decks on Amazon.

Alright so I know a guy who does a trick. Has the person sign the card then puts it in his hands "turns it to smoke" and it comes up singed in the deck. Does anyone know how this is done?
+Caleb Berlingeri - I would have a dirty card on the bottom of the pack, loaded with ash. After they sign and place on top of the pack simply cut the card to the middle 'to lose it.' This places the dirty card on top of the signed card. Add thin dish washing fluid or lip balm to the ash to make sure it sticks convincingly. Box the pack to add pressure while you talk or grab a lighter to 'burn' the card from afar.
Might not be how your friend does it, but that seems practical to me.
+Big Finn RE - the vanish/smoke variety would need some basic sleight of hand, which of course I won't expose.
I'm still going through with the video... but just a note... the 5♠... the signature is on the wrong side of the card... 5:28m you can see the cards in the right position, so signatures mismatch card position... sorry to be picky!
To get rid of the torn card you can use what I've seen around... grab a pen and use it as a wand.... in your shirt pocket, or even... pants pocket...

+Captain Crow I've seen magicians flash the actual signed card with someone else's signature though AFTER it's been ripped up as a proof that it's torn, then they restore it. How do they do that?

+Boudewijn Pleij Basically, if the spectator has signed the card the only way you can do it is if you do not show them the face of the torn pieces but only the back :) And also, if you do it like that, you will not need a duplicate, only an extra card.
