Wow Rick! My name is Barb and I’m 60 years old and have lived in Baraboo for most of my life. My mom and aunts grew up in Wisconsin Dells my mom worked at a restaurant that no longer is there right across from where the chalet Bowling alley is. I remember a lot growing up and my family going to the Dells having my aunts and Grandma living there. We would all go to the public beach on Hiwatha Drive sometimes we would get out on our swimming floats and float out to where we could watch the Tommy Bartlett Water Show. We had many fun summers spending our days at the lake. I miss those days, my parents have both passed away, but I have many pictures of us in the Dells. We loved going to Henny Penny Restaurant for breakfast. The other Restaurant you should visit is Dennys ( not the franchise). The restraunt has a huge sign that says best homemade cinnamon rolls in the Dells. The food there is to die for. We went there for many years my parents were friends with the owners and now Chad has taken over the business and he’s done pretty well. I tell anybody who asks where there is I good place to eat I always tell them Denny’s with the big Cinnamon Roll sign. So if you one morning wake up and want breakfast check it out. Breakfast there are great and you get a lot of food and you leave full. Try it out, or maybe you already have eaten there. I can’t say enough about the food and how wonderful it is. Thanks for listening yeah I still live in Baraboo I am 15 minutes away from there. Would love to see more then and now videos.
Hi Barb... thank you for watching and sharing your memories! I have been to Denny's Diner a few times. I used to race over there for a cinnamon roll early on a Saturday or Sunday morning before they sold out. The Tommy Bartlett show is definitely missed. I will have to reach out to Tom & Jill to see if they would let me tour the property with the camera. More Then & Now videos to come. Thanks again for watching! 😉
Glad you enjoyed it! I will produce more Then & Now videos of the Dells as I have so much content for multiple videos. I will also do some other tourist hot spots as well 🙂
also if you're interested there are two bookface pages that have thousands of vintage pictures of the dells. mostly locals are contributors. one is Save the Wisconsin Dells the other is Dells/Lake Delton History
I did get a few pictures from Dells/Lake Delton History on FB. There are a lot of Dells FB groups and some of them have some great retro pics. Thanks again for sharing the info! 😉
Went to Dells 1st time in early 70s. Remember Fort Dells, downtown attractions, amusement parks, and there was also a storybook gardens. Still have the pics. Thanks for blast from the past!!!

Dude!!! I live in Wisconsin and have been waiting for this content!!! I was going to do this myself based on my 35 years visiting this glorious city. Let’s get after riverview and family land I absolutely love the content
Great video! Ahh, the Dells of my youth were special. I grew up in the 80s and 90s and went there a lot as my grandparents had a few different homes there. There was no fast food - no McDonald's. Upper Crust and Country Kitchen were favorites. There was Xanadu, the foam house on the hill by Pirate's Cove. There were helicopter rides. Noah's Ark, Riverview and Family Land were the three main water parks. Storybook Gardens was a bore. But Olde Kilborne was a great little amusement area with the best bumper boats. When I would visit in the winter. the only thing open in town was the Ace Hardware. Thanks for sharing the history of the Dells!
Some of the old "relics" of the Dells are hiding throughout the area. I am working on finding what I can and I will create more "Then & Now" videos as I have a lot of pictures. Thank you for watching! 🙂
Great video!!! Live about a hour and a half away from the Dells we do Day Trips often!!! Favorite place is the Deer Park you have to get there early because the Deer are hungry when they open!!! That would be a great video for you to film because it’s so beautiful
@@MaverickHayes what is amazing is that we live on Green Lake so to have that be the beginning of that video is ironic!!! Love the Deer Park best place in the Dells!!!
been going there since 1979. gone almost every year since, and the years i've missed i made up for by going on average thrice yearly for the past 10 years. lot of changes. lot of history. surprisingly the local library never archived the old dells guide books, which i think are sociologically interesting in their own right. a pristine year by year guide to how americans spend their leisure and the way that it's changed through the decades..... also the type of shooting game you're talking about..... Rob Berk has an intact playable one at Past Times Arcade in Girard, OH...... he also has 415 pinball machines, 250 arcade video games, about 35 mechanical gun games, and a few dozen other random coin operated arcade games. $20 gets you in for the day and everything is on free play also Bring Back Xanadu
It's amazing how the Dells has changed so much over the decades. HH Bennett Studios in downtown Dells has a lot of fascinating history of the area. That is awesome on the Past Time arcade! Thanks for the info and watching! 🙂
What did you think of this video? Would you like me to do more "Then and Now" type videos of the Dells and other touristy areas?
This was great! I would love to see Lake Geneva Wisconsin
Thank you for the suggestion!
Congratulations to the winner! Great vid!!
Gg to the winner

I will research it a bit to see if I can find where he went 😉

I might have a video of the Wax Museum back in 1995 when my family toured it. I'll have to find it and post it.
That would be great! I couldn't anything on the museum when I was putting together the video. 😉
