I honestly don’t get the Victoria hate. Sure she’s not as quirky or “pretty” as Emily but people act like she’s a bad person. She was kind even when her parents call her face a disgrace. She didn’t get mad at Victor when he was messing up his vows and still cared for him when he was “with another woman”. And was willing to try to save him even though she was called crazy. And hating on her cause “she got in the way for Victor and Emily” is dumb cause it was EMILY who made that choice. Emily still got her happy ending (finally being able to rest in peace) even if it wasn’t what she wanted. Plus I feel like Victor only got feelings towards Emily near the end cause he was literally running away from Emily got a good chunk of the movie and probably only decided to marry her because Victoria was marrying Barkus.

I'd say it's just two different types of chemistry. With Victoria, it's simple and wholesome. With Emily, it's electric and exciting. Both options are good. But one involves dying. (Victor was deadass going to die for her, too. Even with Victoria watching him.) Overall the story would've ended quickly if Emily and Victor met when she was alive.
Plus I think Emily actually knowing how to play piano allowed her to connect with Victor on a deeper level. The piano conversation and proposal are the most memorable moments.
