Tip for anyone who has regular sponges and doesnt want to buy a "sea sponge" You can create the holes and divets/ uneven patterns really easily by using a pair of needle nose pliers. Just pluck out a few sections of holes. makes the camo pattern look a lot better. I have tried using a razor blade and knife but Ive found you get the best results from plucking a few holes and roughing up the sponge.
That's a really awesome job, just got my platform tonight and was looking for a video about the new bracket that it came with so far haven't found nothing on that but saw this so I had to watch it really cool way to camo it up.
Not only is your hunting and fishing footage awesome, this is awesome and easy. 100% what I’ll be doing. Can’t forget to mention all the cooking also! Thanks for making the content you do brother good luck 2020!
Nice job! Your platform looks awesome! The only thing I would recommend is Rust-Oleum makes an awesome clearcoat that's clear. Its called Universal Advanced Formula (Dead Flat). I used it on my bow after I dipped it and you can't see any shine at all.
have you seen the technique where you don't use sticks to climb the tree only a rope, throw ball and your saddle system? its by NY saddle Hunter. check it out. th-cam.com/video/0JtaEXzhlKk/w-d-xo.html
Brake cleaner is an excellent degreaser. Another way to degrease is boiling water, like you do traps. I am not sure if you have a pot big enough for the predator. Either one works well.
Another great video... not sure but maybe use a 0000 steel wool and take some of the gloss off of the matte clear coat. Test a spot first. I roughed up between coats of polyurethane when I did my hardwood floors. Good Luck this season.
Good idea! Only problem I see is it would probably polish back down from wear and tear of using the platform. My shotgun got shiny spots where I always carried it between the receiver and pump.
Nicely made video! Idk about you, but when I make a video like this, when I rewatch the footage, I feel like Ricky Bobby during his first race interview. "I don't... I don't know what to do with my hands..." Lol You were fine though. Enjoyed the video!
Looks great Catman! If you had to do it over again would you use the clear coat? I am guessing it is to give the paint some protection from chipping off? Thanks for the tips with the sea sponge!
Awesome looking stand. I am going to say that I don't really like the red lettering on it. Not sure if deer can see red at all but maybe you should paint the lettering black or camo like the rest of your stand. Just saying. Looking to your deer hunting videos again this year. I am a fairly new subscriber to your channel but just love your down to earth approach to hunting and fishing. Keep up the great work you are doing. Tom
Do you find the clear coat to be too shiny in direct sunlight or remove a lot of the texture from the metal? I just painted my Onyx platform and I'm hesitant to clear coat it because I'd hate to sell myself out in the sunlight.
Catman. I painted my tree stand exactly as you showed, works great. Actually to great. Can't find my tree stand. Hope you have a successful dear season and get a new personal best! By way, you have any tips on Hiwassee refuge deer season?

Obsessed with the Outdoors I bet that looks good too. For those who don’t know, sea sponges are cheap! Got a link in the description, like 4 bucks.
Another great video Catman. You certain go the extra mile to show and teach us some great tips. Thanks for all you do to make us better sportsmen.
Awesome paint job! Thanks for taking the time to go into detail instruction to help us make a great paint job! Always a great video!!
season just around the corner. enjoyed watching.
Looking good! I've painted a few platforms and I've never degreased. Good to know!
That came out so much better than I thought it would great video man!!!!!
Thanks for the awesome tips man, did my summit climber today!!
Great job Catman! Very entertaining video!

Thanks for the video Catman. I showed my wife this video, and she did my platform the same way. It looks great.
Turned out very nice! Reminds me of a tree in a murky swamp. Good luck this season and can’t wait to watch you hunt.

Really nice technique. Thanks for sharing.
Bob Ross of the hunting world. Paint job looks great bud!
Sean Heyer those happy little trees. Haha!!!

it came out sick. really like how you accented the lettering to keep it looking professional.

Rob Grubb yes I have, haven’t tried it though.
Best treestand paint job I've seen so far! Unfortunately I already sprayed mine with black base then watched this. HAHA Great Content!!
Looks great. Thank you for sharing!
Can't wait for my saddle and platform to come in! I'll be running around the east TN mountains in 37 days, 8 hours, 41 minutes and 18 seconds 🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌
I'lll be hunting middle Tn in 24 days! #quotahunt!
Looks awesome!!! Thank you for the demo!
Dawn's dish soap and rubbing alcohol works best man.👍
Sweet video! I was painting one of my box blinds earlier
Looked really good! I need to try this on one of my guns. 👍🏻
I like that camo job 👌🏻
Brake clean works good too
Wow, turned out looking great! 👍
Good luck this weekend, hope you shoot a big one!!!!
Awsome job, looks factory.

Most brands of carb cleaner will leave a residue. Brake cleaner completely evaporates. Use a water bead test after cleaning to see the difference.

I'm sure your right about wear and tear.
That looks amazing! I hope to see you kill a big buck from it this season! Good luck!
Nicely made video!

You were fine though. Enjoyed the video!
Looks great! I just paint my stands an olive drab color, deer don't seem to mind.....
Looks good brother
Looking really good 👍
Looks awesome! That frog gig caught my eye in the background.. how bout a gigging video in the future?
Looks great Catman! If you had to do it over again would you use the clear coat? I am guessing it is to give the paint some protection from chipping off? Thanks for the tips with the sea sponge!
Ronnie Fields yes, clear coat is for protection. I did a shotgun that way a few years ago and paint held up great
How has the paint job held up after years of use?
Looks great man.
How does the paint hold up over time? Also, what are you’re thoughts of using a spray on plastic as a base coat?
Awesome looking stand. I am going to say that I don't really like the red lettering on it. Tom Bulger thanks! If the deer can see the letters, it’s already too late. 🏹
@@CatmanOutdoors well I guess you could be right on that point....lol
Are you going to do the velvet hunt this year? I know it’s going to be hot.
Looks great Catman! You might want to use IPA or acetone next time.
Hey Shane, did you ever put any turkey nests in the woods to see which predators destroyed them?
Can’t waste a good IPA like that 🍻
@@CatmanOutdoors 🤮
@@tannerking4130 no, it'll have to wait until next spring.
Looks good
I followed this, and along with your shotgun camo video, to do my Helium Hawk sticks. They almost disappear when I strap them to the tree.
I just left Walmart with everything. Thx bro
Catman you better get a patent on that pattern before someone steals it lol 😂 looks great
Do you find the clear coat to be too shiny in direct sunlight or remove a lot of the texture from the metal? I just painted my Onyx platform and I'm hesitant to clear coat it because I'd hate to sell myself out in the sunlight.
It’s not an issue at all. The platform is a silhouette from the deers perspective anyway. The camo is mainly aesthetic.
Catman you getting ready for tomorrow?
Glad I found this. Getting ready to saddle hunt for the first time this year? You still using this platform this year?
Catman. I painted my tree stand exactly as you showed, works great. Actually to great. Can't find my tree stand. Hope you have a successful dear season and get a new personal best! By way, you have any tips on Hiwassee refuge deer season?
How’s the paint holding up?
Just wash it with dish soap that'll take the grease off I would definitely spend thirty bucks on a ventilator. how do you feel?
How did this paint job hold up on your platform? Considering doing mine. Thanks for all you content, you da man!
It’s been over a season and a half hunting with it and the paint has held up great. Only worn off a little around the edges.
Anyone tried sprayon bedliner?
Looks great.I did my turkey gun with this method turned out great.
what did you use to paint the lettering red?
Deer blood 😆
What should I use to was down a rifle stock and should I put primer on it?
Lane Martin id do a stock the same way, but only a synthetic stock. Actually have done one before and it turned out great.
Catman Outdoors thanks man. Great vids keep up the work!
Awesome
Looks like a cross between bottonlands and true timber Strata
Nice job 1 question how much weight does that add to the platform? LMAO for all the saddle hunters with no brawn.
No early season hunt yet
Tie it w/ 2pieces of line, it'll stop spinning. Or a coat hanger.
A man after my own heart. I, too, have crows eating my tomatoes and chickens who are alarmists. We country boys can survive!
You look real country in that profile pic 🤣
@@mikeguy9668 that is what having a new girlfriend does for you
