I absolutely love that Hraesvelgr is this giant terrifying Dark Souls looking bird of prey, but everyone in the game talks about her like she's a pleasant but overworked peer from a few cubicles down.
I'm not sure if it was a reliable source but I read somewhere that the bird should've been the boss instead of the Hel Guardian guy that Kratos kills for his heart in GOW 2018 but it was scraped because of budget reasons
@@GodOfWar05100 Sounds believable. The original GoW on PS2 also had a bird boss fight cut out before acquiring pandora's box. Mayhaps there was some mistranslation in the process and you heard that instead?
@@dzonatangavert1408 ive been playing through 2018 and i have noticed several signs you see from games that had rushed parts. Certain encounters spike in difficulty and enemies have unfair attacks (attacks adjusted or fixed in Ragnarok) and the amount of "here fight a troll! And an ogre! And another one of both! And more! AT THE SAME TIME!!" I really wouldn't put it past them to have cut the fight with Hel and just dropped yet another big ugly with big rock.
Actually, that specific boss has a really unusual mechanic where he drops orbs while attacking and then teleports to those orbs. Maybe this series is just cursed away from Big Bird Bosses.
I had a muse that Tyr would volunteer to Kraesvelgr's place when the time came, since he believes he has fallen out of present mythology and may decide to leave guiding the new era to Kratos and friends. Not guaranteed of course but if anyone had the will to take on Hel's mantle, he'd be up there.

If Mimir did take over for Hraesvelgr, how would he even do the job as just a head? Even Hraesvelgr has the fact she's a _giant-freaking eagle_ to help her maintain order in Helheim.
Hel is suppose to be lokis daughter . She isn’t an eagle either .
@@Kyubii01 In the GoW universe, "Hel" is basically a title that refers to the ruler of Helheim. There were nine rulers so far, with Hraesvelgr's rule being the longest-lasting so far.
It's pretty obvious that God of War doesn't adapt traditional mythology on a one-to-one scale. They make changes to it to fit the narrative they want the games to tell.
@@gundamgamer7060 I know but what I am saying that being an eagle isn’t the requirement . Loki will have a child or adopt one and she will become Hel. Allowing the eagle to retire. She doesn’t need to be an eagle.

@@Kyubii01 I never said Hel HAD to be an eagle, just that being a gigantic, terrifying one helps _Hraesvelgr in particular_ maintain order in Helheim through her sheer size and strength... and also by eating the Helwalkers.

you know, it's funny, Mimir told us back in GOW4 that only the world serpent and himself spoke this "dead tongue" but it seems that Hraesvelgr also speaks the same tongue, and now even Atreus does... 4 speakers is better than nothing

Mimir has been shown to have gaps in his knowledge. He doesn’t know what Hrimthur said to Freya, what purpose the Mask served, Groa’s Prophecy etc. ‘Smartest Man Alive’ doesn’t mean he knows everything lol
Dead language means there's no new words or redefinitions for current words being invented, not necessarily that there's no speakers left. Sanskrit and Latin are both dead languages, yet Hindu and Christian monks still speak them. English is a living language because new words and definitions come up all the time. "Drip" used to mean a droplet of water, now it can also mean a stylish outfit
@@tim.noonanIt's also possible that he never knew she spoke the language to begin with. I can't imagine that there were many diplomatic visits to Helheim during his tenure as Odin's advisor. It could be that the Ragnarok negotiation was literally the first time he'd ever spoken to her.

I always assumed Baldur would become the lord of Hel. Seeing as how in the mythology, he ends up there after his death.
Yeah but I guess Gow sorta changed it up towards where gods go basically nowhere after death or at least somewhere incomprehensible to humans as Odin said to Atreus there’s no Valhalla or afterlife for the gods
He didn’t become lord of Hel. He just died outside of battle and resurrected after ragnarock.

Well... If they were to follow Mythology there's also Hel herself as a possible option... Loki A.k.a Atreus's daughter with Angrboda. They can have her as giant who's sealed in one of the marbles, then freed and assumes Kraesvelgr's place.
I actually assume, that Kraesvelgr IS a giants soul in a crow. Just like the world serpent in this version.
@@kommo1 is it just me or it's fucking obvious that the other raven of Odin who survived would've replaced Kraesvelgr, maybe Atreus would whisper his soul out and replace it with a giant.
@@shiro90605 That nwould actually bre a horrifing thought, considering that itzs heavily implied, that Odins Ravens are possessed by dead children.
On a technical level, I love the quirks she has in her voice. She absolutely speaks like a giant (didn’t realize she was one) but also speaks like a bird. Not pleasant at all which is why I love it so much. I wish Jörmungandr was the same, added some snake in his voice.
I mean you can hear little bit of a low subtle rattle when he speaks.
The way Mimir phrases it makes it’s sound more like Hildisvini would be taking the role, not Mimir.
Which makes sense, Mimir is a head without physical agency. Despite his intelligence he’s hardly the best pick to oversee Helheim if he can’t actually do anything.
My hope is that Atreus and Ang will have a time skip where they have a daughter who becomes Hel, herself, like in the mythology; taking over as ruler of Helheim.
Honestly speaking, i imagine that the new ruler of Hel will be the child of Angerbode and Atreus.... Atreus shows an unnerving talent towards whispering souls and angerbode seems to have that power too. Their child,their daughter, could easily manfiest the skills needed and kinda reform Hel as it is.
Hraesvelgr is lucky if the devs didnt had to rush production back at 2018 kratos would have tear his heart off for atreus life
I dont know. She gives off very strong gives no fucks im just doing this b.s job vibe. All she did in the first one was just watch kratos kill one of her minions and was like ah, anyway. in the second one wasnt really that miffed about atreus's fuck up with bad doggo and was fine to lend her army to kratos since they offered her a chance at retirement. For her it was bascially no downside. Odin dies and she can enjoy eventual retirement or odin wins and does nothing since no one else wants the job.
Everyone is saying that there will be alternatives to Mimir being the ruler (like Atreus’ daughter), but I think the eagle would favor Mimir solely because of his promise, even if other characters (including gods) are more qualified and Mimir would be less willing than others.

For one, he's not 1000 Feet Tall, he cannot move, and has zero powers to police the dead

interesting.... i always thought that Loki and Angrboda's daughter would become the next Lord of Death, but then again, idk how she would be added into the games, so maybe Mimir would be the better option...
Probably the same way they implemented the “Birth” of Jormangandr, since he’s supposed to be Loki and Angrboda’s son.
Hella was supposed to make an appearance but marvel held the rights to the character so Santa Monica had to cut her out completely or else there would of been legal trouble. Thor was also supposed to be cut out entirely as well and supposed to be dead throughout the entire course of both god of war games but they were certain to use his character anyways and negotiations were made between SMS and Marvel for Thor.

In exchange for Hræsvelgr lending Helheim's forces, Mimir and Kratos promise to find someone to replace her as the ruler of Helheim. This might be an indication that Hel will fulfill the promise in future.
When I got to Hraesvelgr in the 2018 game, I just stood on the end of the broken bridge for about 5 minutes. Just staring. It was one of those perfect videogame moments where you are totally captured. Nothing to explain what you are seeing but Freya's warning not to cross the (other) bridges in the background lest you end up... there.

Was anyne else sad that in the previous game we saw the whole body now its just a the top half and also how the bird and world serpent did little to absolutely nothing i thought wed see the eagle flying causing storms facing the aesir but nah just sits while the relams might end

Its obviously gonna be Hel taking over. In Norse Mythos she is the daughter of Angrboda and Loki so I’m thinking they’ll make some workaround similar to what they did with Fenrir and Jormundgandr who where also their children.

@@acemarvel1564 i don't care what the original creator says to be honest. what would he have done differently? still rage, still the same kratos he's been without any development? That's lazy writing. and you can't honestly be saying the characters are "sterile" when the old 1/2/3 trilogy exists. i like those games but nostalgia carries it heavily. also, im not going to just blindly follow what ever the creator says. I'll make my own opinion, instead of being a sheep :^)
