God also promised that Abraham's decedents would become a great people, through his son Isacc, whom God command Abraham to sacrifice as a test of faith. Abraham, and in truth Isacc, were faithful, and God spared Isacc and blessed Abraham and his decedents for his faith. Isacc's son Jacob would go on to be renamed Israel, the father of the twelve patriarch who would father the twelve tribes of Israel, but thats another story. This is the reason Abraham is important and why he is regarded as the "Father of faith" (see Romans chapters 3 and 4). Another important note is that the act of father sacrificing son in Abrahams story is very much one of (if not the) the first prefigurations of Jesus and his sacrifice. Hope this helps. @@2pink1stink At this point, if you know the history of that region, it’s incredibly unlikely for such tombs to be preserved. Abraham lived in the 23rd century BC. From then until now, that region has been invaded and controlled by Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Ottomans, British and several other groups. Is it likely that they all preserved his tomb? Besides, we don’t even know if that’s the correct location to begin with. The building itself was built in the Byzantine period.
