  • In our NYC NOT DEAD: NY DOSA MAN REOPENS DURING COVID-19 & WALK IN GREENWICH VILLAGE NEW YORK we visit Thiru Kumar aka the NYC Dosa Man who owns the oldest #vegan food cart in New York City. We watch Kumar, the street food legend, prepare his dosas made of rice and lentils and stuffed with potatoes, vegetables, and spicy sauces in Washington Square Park.
    We also walk along West 4th Street in Greenwich Village with our dog during the #Coronavirus Lockdown in #NYC to see how vibrant this neighborhood near New York University (NYU) looks during the reopening of New York with outdoor dining during COVID-19 restrictions. We see many restaurants, cafes and bars open with outdoor seating including the Washington Square Diner, The Slaughtered Lamb, and Corner Bistro. We also stop inside Hamlet’s Vintage on West 4th Street to check out their amazing selection of hand-selected vintage pieces.

    About JamesandKarla:
    Hey everyone! We are husband-and-wife architectural/interior photographers based in NYC. We started our video channel to act an artistic intervention to help raise awareness of the importance of small independently-owned businesses and the unique character these shops add to the streets and neighborhoods of New York City.
    In our videos we will showcase portraits of storefronts and shop owners in New York City & beyond and capture moments of city life that capture the spirit, energy and cultural diversity of individual neighborhoods. We also bring our dog, Hudson along whenever we can.
    We made it our mission to thoroughly document unique 'mom-and-pop' stores when we began to notice the alarming rate at which they were disappearing. Our critically acclaimed books include “STORE FRONT: The Disappearing Face of New York”, “New York Nights”, “STORE FRONT II- A History Preserved” and “Broken Windows-Graffiti NYC”.
    Come see the city & subscribe to our channel :)

    I am always amazed at the wonderful food prepared from a food cart.......the dosas look delicious. I am a true vintage lover and always visit Hamlet's when I'm in NYC.....Stella Dallas on Thompson was always a favorite of mine......gone.....makes me sad. Give Hudson a kiss on the snout for me!

      renee nosal yes many food carts in NYC serve amazing food and these Dosas are absolutely delicious! Hamlet’s is definitely a treasure trove and we of course remember Stella Dallas. There are a number of good vintage and thrift stores in our neighborhood of the East Village which we will definitely highlight in a future video. We certainly will give Hudson a kiss for you and he sends many big kisses and tail wags to you!

    Was not aware how expensive it is to license a food cart and the time frame to have it approved. ! To put folks through all this red tape is a bit much and no doubt some decided against opening their business ..

    • @JamesandKarla
      @JamesandKarla  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      D N it definitely is an expensive and lengthy process and NYC does not issue that many licenses either. Basically, despite what politicians tell the public, they are NOT friendly towards small businesses. We have interviewed countless small business owners and they all tell us that the rules and regulations the City imposes is ridiculous! Thank you so much for watching and hope you also enjoy some of our other TH-cam videos highlighting small unique businesses in NYC!
