The second in a successful trio of twin engined aircraft designed by the Bristol Aeroplane Company during the 1930s, the Beaufort is significant as the only monoplane produced for the Royal Air Force designed from the outset as a torpedo bomber and reconnaissance platform.
Developed from the Blenheim light bomber, the Beaufort was ordered ‘off the drawing board’ by the Air Ministry, a move which showed great faith in the Bristol Company, whilst at the same time illustrating the RAF’s urgent need for an effective torpedo bomber.
With the initial contract placed in August 1936, despite the pressing need for the new aircraft, it would be more than two years before the prototype Beaufort took to the air. Entering Royal Air Force service with No.22 Squadron Coastal Command in January 1940, the Beaufort proved to be a rugged and highly manoeuvrable aircraft, although the engines continued to be something of a problem.

@@emilbt7588 1.48s not big I'll be getting both in as been waiting since October last year for this kit to be released! I got sent the CAD drawings a while ago I have a pre order list but a few have cancelled since icm announcement

For a fascinating account of flying these in action in the anti-shipping role see 'The Last Torpedo Flyers' by Arthur Aldridge, after which you will hopefully be inspired to build this kit. Arthur Aldridge was in later life a teacher at the school I attended and still bore the scars of his wartime heroism.

Nice build. My Father flew Beauforts in 86 and 39 Squadrons, Coastal Command, RAF. They had almost 90% casualties. He started out with 'rover' patrols looking for shipping off Holland and Norway and ended in further anti-shipping operations from Malta. He told me he didn't know anyone who completed a tour of operations. In fact, he said 40% of his operational training course were killed before getting posted . Not a happy time.

I had hoped to get this in September 2020 because that was the original release date but as of January 2021 there is still no sign of it hitting the shelves. After seeing this video I can't wait to get my hands on one. Cracking looking model.

All we need now is to have a 1/48 version Beaufort Mk8 and a 1/48 Lockheed Hudson.

Icm bringing out a 1.48 scale this year too! I'll definitely be wanting the bigger one ICMs will just be outstanding fornthe detail in a 1.48 Beaufort mk1! I can't wait I have been waiting ages on this bit I received ICMs 2021 catalogue and it's in there for this year! Amazing!

No you have the FROG kit as Airfix have never made the Beaufort before,it was a pretty awful kit with tapered engine cowlings.

The music was not appropriate,off putting for me anyway,i made airfix kits over 30 years ago and was thinking of recently ordering some that i liked the look of until i youtubed the 1/32 scale tempest and seen the parts that were not fitting,i hope you guys have remedied this problem.
??? Airfix doesn't do a 1/32 scale Tempest??? - They've only just (this week) announced the release of a 1/72 scale Tempest, but it is not available yet. Are you thinking of the 1/24 Scale Typhoon??? Or the 1/32 Tempest by Revell / Special Hobby???
@@johndell3642 sorry john you are correct i meant the 1/24 typhoon.
@@s1nb4d59 Indeed, the 1/24 Typhoon does have issues, especially the canopy when it was first released. I came back to modelling after a 30-year gap and have found the new Airfix moulds a delight to build. Especially the smaller scales. I would recommend you try the P-51 Mustang as a starter. Airfix now uses a softer plastic, which I personally find excellent to work., but I do believe that it means that if a larger model is stored stacked on its side for a long time some of the larger parts (fuselage halves, wings) can get bent or distorted, although I've not experienced it myself. Happy building!
