    Love this! I'm so happy to hear and see more and more people talking about how important is the topline :) also, could you perhaps do a vid explaining how to get the horse to stretch or go "long and low"? Just how to start and the basics? I'm having troubles with an ottb who has back problems and a better topline would help her lots, but up till now it doesn't seem like she knows how to relax into it (even when lounging without a saddle).

    • @LaurahhhGrace93
      @LaurahhhGrace93 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lily Salyer have you tried making your horse half halt in the trot and canter to slow her down? that usually works for me on horses that constantly speed up :)

    Hi
    very good video !
    I have one question, long & low is quite difficult with me horse a the start of the exercise. He starts doing it only after 1/2 hour training when he's getting tired. The same when longing him, at the trot, head is up and only comes low at the step. Any suggestions to get him long and low while trotting at the start of the exercise ? Thx a lot Philippe

      +Kate M have a search for Art2Ride (Will Faerber), they are specialists in long and low work... ;) tons of videos out there.
      And absolutely fabulous that topline gets its own video here as well! :D It really is the base of everything. A good topline and things get so much easier with the horse. I wish more people would understand this, it would save many frustrations both with riders and horses. Thumbs up for Evention.

    Dom and Jimmie-
    I currently own a 9y/o OTTB Gelding. He is an absolute angel when I'm riding him, but once he's away from his pasturemates while I'm leading him, he won't move. I do so many different exercises that are effective in the moment, and I do them consistently, but my gelding just isn't understanding the idea that when I give a slight tug on the lead rope it means to go forward. While I'm riding, he does great transitions almost every time, but he has terrible upward transitions while being led. Any tips?

    • @lizhadley3803
      @lizhadley3803 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keep a dressage whip with you while leading. When he refuses to move forward, reach back and gently tap/touch his hindquarters with the whip (don't turn around, keep facing forward). You might not need to tap at all. Some horses move forward just having the end of the whip near them. Moving forward should always come from behind, so "pulling" on the lead rope or reins won't help.

    so I have a 18 year old mare that I am currently training to jump. she is half quarter horse, a quarter morgan, and a quarter appaloosa. she has appaloosa weird gait, where she picks up her right front leg higher than the others. she does this in the walk, trot, and canter, but she gallops just fine... I was just wondering if anyone has ideas or exercises that I can do with her to smoothen this out? anything will be apreciated! thanks ❤🐴

    but their bones need to grow to getter, just like a human baby and their skul is not together...and training a 4 year old...you should start riding at like around 6, you should learn the biomechanica of a horse first, how they are herd animals and not 'stable' animals

    • @jesschapman4046
      @jesschapman4046 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Queen Sha by the time the horse is four it should be developed enough to start to work its muscles correctly, if they start young they have less chance of building the incorrect muscles which could cause them back pain and other serious problems down the line :-)

    • @Donfrejo
      @Donfrejo 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jess Chapman I agree completely! Wat i meant was, that you should not ride everyday with a young horse, its good for them to start once a week..then build up from there, for balance and muscle gain!, but don't ride a 4 yo 7 days a week!
