  • This is my first video recording a New York Steinway model B that Steinway has lent me while I wait to pick out a Hamburg D later this year in Germany. This piano has a beautiful mellow tone that I find difficult to capture in a recording. I just about went insane for a month learning and experimenting how to record it with no prior knowledge whatsoever (literally didn't know how to attach a microphone to a stand before). It may not be Deutsche Grammophon audio quality, but I think this is pretty good for now. I also got a new camera, but for the life of me can't figure out how to bring the whole shot into focus.
    Any suggestions/comments about current audio quality greatly appreciated.

    Composed by Rachmaninoff, arranged by Gryaznov, performed by rach3master. A near perfect combination! I didn't know about this piece before, thanks for introducing me to it.

    Return of the king! So much of my musical vocabulary comes from your videos. Love the multiple angles too

    Love the sound of the new piano!! A perfect complement to the thoughtful phrasing and interpretations we've come to know and love from you. I've always loved your choice in pieces as well, you've introduced many of us to such beautiful music, including the current 'Rachmaninoff/Gryaznov 'The Night is Sad'. Congratulations on this one, and can't wait for all the music to come from you.

    My,my,my....an acoustic piano video by my most favorite piano literature interpreter! Stunning performance by a stunning artist. Your diminuto passages come alive is whispers and crescendos are mirrors of expression. Your control of each key, as you play, is exquisite in execution and artistic intent. Beautiful Rachmaninoff composion interpreted! Rachmaninoff comes alive with your performances. This is no easy task.....Rachmaninoff........ BRAVA!!

    Welcome back master, happy 2023! Don’t worry about the quality of audio and video, they are better than 99% compared to general youtubers!

    Wonderful plus a deserved instrument upgrade, though everything played prior on the nv10 was sublime too.

      I’ll probably be keeping it around just for general practicing so the Steinway stays in tune longer.

    Wonderful! What was your setup for recording, if one can ask?

    • @rach3master
      @rach3master  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks. 3 cardoid condensers close mic'd in a spaced configuration, 2 omni condensers spaced farther away for room ambience, and 1 large diaphragm condenser mic under the piano for bass saturation.

      @@rach3master Wow, 6 mics for a first time recording! nice :D Which mics? I have only 2 omnis right now, considering getting 2 cardioids for a better mix, only have 4 microphone inputs in the interface too

    What mics are you using? The problem in recording is with most rooms causing overload on some frequencies. I use rock wool for bass traps and use eq to bring down the boomy pitches of my room.

      Schoeps cardioid and omnidirectional mics, but room and mic placement are more important than the specific mic used. I'm lucky enough to have a large enough living room where I don't have most of the typical acoustic challenges.
