I think you have missed the conceit. Ayoade hated the film. It's an extended joke about what he considers a bad film.

I think it's a British sense of humour thing, I loved listening to his book and rewatching the film afterwards-great way to soothe my Covid anxiety!

"View From the Top is a film we might imagine Donald Trump himself half-watching on his private jet's gold-plated flat screen while his other puffy eye scans the cabin for fresh, young prey." - Richard Ayoade. I think that tells us all we need to know about his opinion of the film... He's also obsessed with terrible screenplays, see his parodic creation "Garth Marenghi's Dark Place" for a reference.

Yes I love all his books on film!
