Firstly, I want to give my respects to you for taking a bold step against the majority opinion, as I came away from Sonic 3 with gripes of my own that make it hard for me to stomach seeing EVERYONE online call it "perfect" or "peak cinema." That said, I do disagree with your point on Sonic's heroism at 1:28. While much of Sonic's development in the film centers on his self-protection of his life and powers, he IS shown to have a heart for protecting others. The first post-backstory scene shows him saving a turtle from getting run over. In the scene where Robotnik confronts Tom, Sonic takes the risk of exposing himself to keep Tom from getting shot dead, and continues to fight for his safety throughout the rest of the film. Also, I don't think Sonic pushed Tom and Maddie off the building without reason, as even when Robotnik's ambush disrupted his flow, it didn't take long for Sonic to think of where to safely send them, even under the moment's pressure. Even if most of his heroic moments are more reactive than initiating, Movie Sonic is just as much as a selfless hero as Game Sonic in my eyes.

I hate the 'Sonic in the real world' premise of the Paramount Sonic films, it's inherently restrictive and robs the films of the exciting science-fiction/fantasy elements of its source material that made me obsessed with the Sonic franchise as a kid. In the original Japanese version of the games, Sonic's home was always Earth all along albeit obviously an alternate version of Earth where humans and anthros live together. Paramount needs to do that or fuck off, in my opinion.

It's always interesting to hear other people's opinions about a certain piece of media. But this video seemed to me to over-validate the core of the franchise, as if it were something too dense and complex to be associated with a childish and youthful context (it's no wonder that the target audience has always been children and currently adults with a delayed childhood). The films do indeed have a dose of strange and controversial decisions (an example of this is the wedding sequence in the second film), but they still manage to preserve the main essence of the Sonic games, which is to be an adventure, and nothing more than that. Since it's an adaptation, Sonic's personality in the movie didn't seem that far from how he's been represented in many other media from the 90s and early 2000s (and about the fact that Sonic has a family nucleus in these movies, I can't understand your criticism, even in the comics he's already married and had kids, what's so wrong with being with a human family?) Anyway, this last Sonic movie that was released this year showed the right tone that this new franchise should take, it was a very cool reinterpretation of Adventure 2 (maybe it's my nostalgia talking, but who knows?, practically all current Sonic products are guided by nostalgia anyway), and who knows they might not get it right in the next sequels, it's very rare to find a movie franchise that is willing to learn from the mistakes of its previous titles, and that's something to be respected. Anyway, you can call me naive for liking these movies, I really don't care, I believe that Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 are decent movies, while the first one was just an experiment to test the audience in my view. Let's hope that Amy Rose gets the same treatment that Shadow got in this movie.
