- Gavage feeding is an essential skill to be learned by all healthcare providers. Points to remember:
1. Do not routinely aspirate the NG tube before giving feeds.
2. Always check the position of the tube before starting feeds.
3. Feed has to go in under the effect of gravity. do not use the plunger.
4. Empty the tube completely before resealing the end of the tube.
5. Burp for 10 mins after feeding.

What's making that child breathe like that
premature. there's alot that could be going on but the respiratory system is one of the later organ systems to develop, so if a baby is premature they are likely to experience respiratory complications.
Why through the nose and not the mouth?

Remember that gavage feeding is through the NG tube; there is something potentially wrong with baby's ability to tolerate feeding by mouth. Thus, to reduce the risk of aspirating, it's given through the nose. Additionally, this might be a NICU baby so the ability to suck, swallow, and gag is immature.
