Ok, this video earned a subscription. LOL First, you are detailed in your presentation and hit important details for people who may be in the process of deciding whether or not a Bowen Custom bed is something they want to pursue among all the other topics you all cover. (Scout Campers, etc.) The bloopers had me dying. Walker in particular. If the wife and I decided to road it for months at a time the cats would go with us. If its a few days at a time the dogs would travel with me. You have genuine people appeal. Stick to it, it works.

That is an awesome setup 👍🏻 my Big Foot on a GMC 3500 Duramax has very limited storage space, I had to add a rack on the hitch receiver for extra space, but things are out in the elements. The only thing I might change on your setup is the rear mounted spare tire, I’d move it to the front to give more space at the rear. Thanks for posting this informative video.
Thanks for watching! Yeah, before we upgraded the truck bed, our storage was so much more limited. Now, we almost have too much space (for most things), which isn't a bad situation to be in! Happy trails to you!

We had our Bowen bed installed in April. We only wish we had that room while full-timing in 2021-22

Bowen bed is awesome, y’all’s rig is killer.
That said, zero chance I will be paying the Bowen price, its more expensive than my 2020 truck camper cost. Quote as of 1/24 for a base CM flatbed on a 2500 Ram was $4100. Can add all the comparable tool boxes and still save about $15,000 over the Bowen. Not sure in what world that amount of price difference makes any sense at all, but each to their own, no disrespect intended.
There are definitely cheaper options out there but the main benefit that the Boewn bed has over a CM flatbed is it doesn't raise the height of the truckbed at all which keeps our camper as low as possible. Going with a CM flatbed would raise the overall setup by roughly 5-6 inches which would decrease the stability of the truck and also create a larger air dam at the front of the camper while driving.
I love the look of the Bowen with a slide in camper - great choice. They have raised the bar for what you want your rig to look like with a slide in. Do you have any kind of backup camera? I'm struggling with the whole concept of losing my backup camera and rear parking sensors if I went to something like this.
We agree, Bowen Customs is definitely raising the bar for the industry! We do still have our back up camera, we installed a relocation kit and mounted it above our camper door so it turns on automatically when going into reverse.

Hello, thank you for the great info. Have you ever had water leaks with ANY of the Scout campers you have owned?
Hey Matt - we had a water leak in our 2021 Scout Olympic but it was resealed by Scout and never had any issues after that. Our 2022 Scout Kenai had a small leak that was caused from us hitting a tree when we were trying to squeeze out of a camp spot, the tree pulled off the corner cap but was easily fixed. Since then we haven't had any leaks and that includes the rainy season in Mexico and Guatemala.

Thanks Nate! Fully loaded we can creep up into the 11,500-11,700 range which is a hair over our GVWR of 11,400.
Wow, the base cost of the Bowen camper bed went up $2K in the 3 months since you filmed this video. Yikes! Amazing rig all the way around though.

If the 6.4 HEMI gives out, will you move your bed to a 6.7 Cummins? That HEMI won’t last as long as the Cummins. Keep up the great work with these videos.

I was wondering, now that you have had the Bowen build for some time now, if you had second thoughts about the 8 foot bed based on your application. Have there been regrets, or does the garage make up for the cons? I'm considering a similar build and would value any feedback. Thank you kindly.
No regret at all, it is a great set up and we have loved it! We have only had to 3 or 4 point turn a couple of times through smaller villages but for the most part the turning radius isn't too bad!
If given a choice between a flat bed camper with side access hatches or a slide in camper with boxes like this, what would you go with?
Good question - initially we were really wanting a flat bed camper but now that we have this set up we are really happy with it. I think it is personal preference depending if you want more interior vs exterior storage. We feel like we have plenty of storage in our Scout so having all of the extra exterior storage is more useful for us!

I like the idea of a flat bed camper with side access hatches that can be accessed from both inside and outside the camper.
When I was younger my grandfather and my dad and his brother's build a truck camper back in the 1960 he had a Chevy pick up truck we could sleep in it had a Coleman stove, cooler, and a potty no ac and no heat well back in the day that was it we took a trip to Mexico and when we got to the border the border guards didn't know what it was they never saw something like this and so they got the cheif or the captain and after some time they let us pass ya it was fun
Sounds like a great time! The border guards are definitely accustom to truck campers nowadays!

Very nice rig and thanks for the video, however the average person looking for an affordable truck camper setup could not afford or have the expertise to do what you have done so it feels completely out of reach
Thank you, and we don't disagree. We don't claim our rig is the right one for everyone and there are lots of good options at different price points depending on what you're wanting to do! We started with a simple plywood drawer system and sleeping platform in the bed of our truck.

Got to store shoes somewhere! But yes we actually store a lot of other stuff and even additional food/water for longer off grid trips.
