    The 104 is still my favourite watch of all time despite all the watches I owned over the years. It’s a perfect allrounder and looks stunning. I don‘t mind the polishing even if it means it‘ll accumulate scratches over time. On the contrary, it looks great with those battle marks. 😊

    I love a countdown bezel. Partly for obvious reasons but I think mainly because it shows the manufacturer has put some thought into it rather than blindly followed whatever's fashionable.

    I picked up the new green dial version (I, rather than A) about a month ago. Wearing on MN-style strap. Great looker, light on the wrist, and adds some color variety to my rotation. I have more expensive watches (akin to your Omegas and Tudors), but I find that I am enjoying the Sinn 104 just as much. Go figure…

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah thats awesome congrats! Green is such an awesome color and the 104 is definitely suited for it. Yeah Sinn tends to have that effect for sure it makes me think about what more I could possibly want in a watch! Having watches of different price points makes the hobby much more fun i think and actually for the past 3 weeks my gshocks have been dominating my wrist and I dont see that run ending anytime soon!😂😂

    Enjoyed your video! I've watched several reviews on this model since I'm considering one with the anthracite dial. It seems to be a hit with most people. You mentioned the "hates" on it adding up which led to passing it on. What were the others hates other than polished case? That's the only mentioned in video. Many loves, just one hate. Appreciate information from collectors who've spent some time with a piece that I'm interested in.
    I was actually looking at Sinn for the 556 line at first but then I saw this one, focused changed quick. Lol

    I love the polished look of the 104. I think that's a unique characteristic of the watch. I have the green ltd ed with Arabics and stunning dial, the perfect 104 IMHO. I have a U1 which is awesome but I would like the U50.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the polishing is definitely is very much a 104 thing but the green dial arabic numeral version is an absolute gem! It looks seriously good and actually I think I prefer the arabics as well so if I were to buy a 104 again it would definitely be with the arabics!
      Yeah I loved my U1 however it just didnt get enough wrist time to justify keeping it bc it was a bit too big and too tooly to be worn in most situations, although I loved it for those reasons exactly lol. The U50 fixes the versatility problem partially so it is definitely tempting me and its on my wishlist for sure! I do hope the UX is eventually released in the U50 size bc that would be ideal for me bc I absolutely love how bizarre the oil filled dial illusion is

    I have the 356, love it. I had been looking at the 104 too, but I agree with you on the case. It would be much more proper if it were brushed. The other thing that has kept me from pulling the trigger is the cursive 'Automatic' on the dial. I would much prefer that to be in block letters instead. Those are just preferences, and I have no doubt this is an outstanding watch, its just doesn't do it for me.

    Many thanks for the balanced review of your old friend TWI. I don't think I've actually seen a Sinn in real life as my local AD's do not stock the brand. There is an AD in the midlands where my sister lives so next time I'm over there I'll pop in and take a look. I had to laugh when the new G-Shock square decided an hour had passed, nice one. It's interesting that you use the count down bezel on this one, I tend to use the bezel on my diver watches as a count up. Keep up the great work TWI.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching Anthony! And yeah give Sinn a look next time you get a chance bc they really are awesome and unique. I love their aesthetic and they make some incredible tool watches! I must say their oil filled quartz diver the UX is high up on the list bc of how crazy the dial looks in the oil. It's basically painted on the crystal! It's a weird but awesome illusion and it's got 10,000m wr to boot😂😂
      Yeah I loved that gshock moment I forgot I had the hourly chime on and I just love hearing the beeps lol. Yeah it's quite nifty to use the countdown bezel although most of the time I end up using the countdown bezel like a normal dive bezel lol! Thanks for the support Anthony 😁

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah the sand blasted version looks pretty awesome! However, as much as I like the brutal tool watch look of it I do think that it takes away the versatility of being able to dress it up if need be. Other than maybe some of the blasted Octo finissimos, I dont think sand blasted cases work for dressier outfits. Fingers crossed for a fully brushed version😁

      @@thewatchidiot yeah definitely agree with you there. I'm sure there are others who would love to have a brushed version so hopefully Sinn is watching this video! Also the 104 is popular enough to get an extra case finish

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah no doubt about it! If they can have a bunch of dial colors then I'm sure they can spare a different case finish. It would be pretty awesome if they at least have it a go on the basic black dial variants of the 104.

  • @cardinalj
    @cardinalj 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I had a few Sinn 104s. I felt like the dial was a bit too boring. Needed a pop of color or something. I had the green dial and it still didn't do it for me. Also the full Polish wasn't my thing. Love the case shape so I ended up with a EZM 2 with the 3H dial. Is the pops of red and the blasted case fit the bill. I also think the hydro technology is pretty bad-ass.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I think I'm on the same boat as you I would have liked it being brushed to hit the right balance but the ezm models using that case really do look amazing! I like the sand blasted look but for me it does take away a little bit from the versatility which makes me reconsider bc I know I won't be wearing it as much as I'd like. • @jipke
    @jipke 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice video, mate. I own the 104 and I although I think it's a superb watch, the one issue that keeps me from being super happy is.... the polished case. For that reason currently I'm having a professional brushing the case for me. Should look awesome when it's done. As for other watches that are 'pretty much perfect': the Hamilton Khaki Field automatic. Con: the crystal has no AR coating. So I had the crystal replaced.
    I like the idea of modding your watch: you can make your favourite watch 'perfect' and it becomes 'one of a kind', like a personal signature.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great minds think alike then!! But that's awesome that you're going to the next step and getting a pro to get it fully brushed and can I ask how much the brushing will cost?
      With this sort of option I think the world of watches can open up quite a bit bc brushing a watch can take it to the next level! And like you said it can be a personal signature or a piece unique which will always feel cool looool
      I used to have a khaki field mechanical and it was awesome but the lack of AR in addition to the slightly domed crystal brought about sooooo many reflections it absolutely drove me crazy! But that's awesome that you got it replaced bc in my mind crystal replacements was always a Seiko/citizen kind of thing but now the options have opened up!

    • @jipke
      @jipke 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thewatchidiot Hiya! The brushing will cost me €175. Vertical brushing of the sides, since horizontal brushing would be difficult and more expensive.
      Yeah you can mod pretty much any watch these days. I ordered a Hamilton-specific crystal feom Crystal Times (which are no longer available) but I'm pretty sure there are many options (you'll need a 32 mm diam. crystal).

    • @thewatchidiot

    Got my 104 in after moving on from my 556, I totally get what you mean about the brushing. I wish the entirety of the case was satinized just like the 556, but it's something I can live with since this dial is just so perfect. If they come out with a pully brushed/satin one, it'll be hard not to pounce.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the 104 would have absolutely incredible if it came fully brushed! Given the 104's popularity I'm sure a brushed version would be very well received. But yeah the dial is so perfectly proportioned that it's still all worth it!

      Thank you so much Renee I'm glad you enjoyed the video!! As for the accuracy mine was great while I had it it was always right around 4-5 seconds fast. What's the accuracy like on yours?
      Yeah I can see how the fully polished case will work for some people like yourself and David here and the same thing goes for the fully sand blasted version. I just wish they had a fully/partially brushed version for those in the middle like me! We made the drive from Leipzig to Frankfurt to visit my wife's Mom and I thought I would go to look at the Sinn watches and have mine EZM 1 checked out. The service only costs 600 Euro, a steal compared to Rolex or for my A. Lange! I couldn't walk out without a watch, so I bought a EZM 2b. I have 2-3 on my radar. This watch doesn’t have the German day wheal but it’s made like a tank the ultimate tool watch. My fav is U50, how is the time keeping and service situation with Sinn? Yes I absolutely love the U50!! I used to own the U1 and I loved wearing it however I ended up selling it bc it was just a bit too big and I couldnt wear it as much as I would have liked to. The U50 solves that problem completely so I definitely would love to get one at some point. The time keeping on all the Sinns I've owned in the past have been very good theyve all been about 3-6 seconds fast a day which is awesome! As for service I never had any problems with them while I've owned them but given that they use ETA and Sellita movements it should be quite easy to get them service which is a big plus point.
      Yeah they are pricey watches but as far as the U50 living up to your expectations goes I really do think you'll emjoy it! The look and feel of the U1 and U50 is just so unique so if you love the ultra tool watch aesthetic then you'll love it!

      That's awesome, and yeah they've still got the U1 at 1000m and then a UX that's an oil filled quartz that's rated to 10,000m! They're still not a household name but they've made some awesome advancements!

    Great watch but Sinn should allow Europe ADs to sell the matte version which is only available in US and North America, plus Australia. Sinn are losing lots of customers. Are you listening Sinn?

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah a watch that really ought to be a standard production watch should at least be sold to more markets. Given the popularity of the 104 I don't think having a fully matte version and a fully brushed version of the black dial variants (to start off with) would be too much to ask for! I for one will pretty much buy a fully brushed black Arabic numeral version immediately!

    The 104 is better with the Arabic numerals. I have one and the watch is about as perfect as it gets. It deserves an In-House movement should Sinn ever produce one. The SW200 does not do the watch justice and I would have preferred a solid case back. It is a Flieger and note The Countdown timer bezel. The anti-reflective coating is excellent. Well engineered. I have also a U1 to complement the 104. Forgive me father I have Sinned as I am a Sinner!

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I love the arabic numeral one! If I were to rebuy one it would definitely be the one with the arabic numerals bc i just love the font Sinn used for it. Yeah it would be pretty awesome if it got an in house movement in there given how popular it is however for the time being the sellita will suffice for me. Btw, the arabic numeral version has a matte dial as well right?
      Yeah unfortunately I sold the U1 last year! I do miss it it really is unlike anything else I've owned although the U50 is looking mighty tempting right now. "forgive me father i have SInned as I am a Sinner" is the perfect line 😂😂

    Quite a number of the Meister collection by Junghans have a german day within the dial. They're a bit retro and minimalist in their design and are more of a dress watch look than what the rest of your collection looks like. ETA 2824 inside, so a solid timekeeper, like the Sinn.

  • @imranchowdhury4972

    I like Sinn but not as a German watch. I believe German watches are half way German when they use generic Swiss movements. A perfect German watch should not only have the day in German but a German made engine makes the complete German watch like Damasko, Wempe, Glsshutte Original, A. Lange & Sohne. So even though Sinn makes good watches but to me they are not 100% pure German!!!!

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol other than damasko all the other German brands you listed are way more expensive!! It would be cool if Sinn made their own movement for sure bc I'm sure they'd make a pretty awesome one! I think they've reached a stage where they can try and make one.
      However, I think not considering them to be very German is selling them a little short bc in the end if there was a solid case back hardly anyone would be able to tell the difference between an in house movement and a sellita on a daily basis. I'd much rather them concentrate on making even more brand new proprietary technology for their watches!

    • @LaFritePerreGoat
      @LaFritePerreGoat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thewatchidiot I think absolutely the same. German go all in for best engineered watch mostly tool ones not luxury. Going for a swiss made mouvement is just the most efficient way to go for the price point. Easier to enjoy the case machining and style.
